E3 2014 Super Smash Bros Impressions (Best Buy Smashfest / Invitational)

Never really paid much attention to the series, but I think watching this may have sold me on it. I think Nintendo have sold almost sold me on a WiiU, but the MK8 Bundle is just out of my budget.

28 minutes until Smash conference. We need to find a live blog

Yeah, I know it's at 7. Was just wondering if it's usually streamed? (I mean the roundtable). I forget if the past roundtables were streamed. Not seeing anything on Nintendos E3 site or their twitch stream page.

i noticed something that was really cool that korean dj did in the megaman final smash vid

i think he ran into it on purpose to generate that hype ( i wish he won or had gone farther than he did seems like a super cool bro)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZszrtCIDxU

you can see he totally respected people wanting that fs and was giving the megaman player a chance at getting it (such a bro)

Seems like he got sucked in, but can't tell from vid

Sonic the Hedgehog was revealed during a roundtable during Brawl. There's precedent for it happening. But I agree with everyone else I think it would have been better suited after the invitational.
I stand corrected, didn't realize they had done reveals like that before.

nope

#1 - he's facing off against a fs that he may have seen once or twice before, if that, and probably ran into it not expecting the consequences. the timing there was pretty short for it to have been deliberate especially in the heat of it onstage, he probably just wanted the fuck away and panicked a bit or thought the dude whiffed it

#2 - he's yeilding so he doesn't have to battle Megaman outright right next to the edge of the map, especially when he's no longer in the advantageous position to grab it up and might've ended up slaughtered by it right then and there

FUCK MAGEMEN

FUCK SCARF SAMOS

FUCK HOSHI NO KAABY

SANIC WON THE INVITATIONAL

SANIC WON THE E3

PERIOD

Don't really understand the hate for this guy. He is a good talker. At least I think he does his job well, doritogate or not.

It's because he was completely unenthusiastic and wasn't even paying attention half the time. They should have brought in someone who actually gave a shit. It has nothing to do with him as a person, just the fact that he wasn't a good host for this event.

I actually think, he though Mega Man missed.
Edit: No wait. It looks like, he didn't thought the bomb would explode. He run in the same direction as the ball was still small and got sucked in as it exploded.

One last random comment - I wonder if Nintendo foresaw the announcers (and most of the viewers?) thinking that AT was Pong.

Very few people know/care about the pre G&W days.

Fuck, just watching the matches has got me thinking of trying to get back into the Smash scene, when Smash 4 comes out, of course. Better hit up local recruitment.

Chile the world champions at smash
Japan the world journalist champions at smash
USA the USA celebrities champions of smash

smashboard kids got it all wrong

yeah your probably right lol but it looked liked thats what he did to me anyway :p

What can I say. Nintendo owned this E3. The way they presented their games was PHENOMENAL and way better than MS and Sony Press conferences. Most of that thanks to the Nintendo Treehouse stream showing a demo of each game announced. No bullshots, no lies, just pure demo gameplay goodness.

Really sad that Zelda didn't win the celebrity match, she dominated it, was so sure she had enough with the bat knockouts at the end.

You're totally right!! What a bro!

He did it 3 times and only landed it once, the other 2 times he ate damage for it. Just throwing out moves to be unpredictable is a horrible strategy if you know there is huge risk attached to it. When would he use brick? You can block it easily on reaction and Kirby would be eating a lot of damage on recovery. ZSS also outranged Kirby's inhale and when he does catch her all he gets is her paralyzer which doesn't help that much.

Anyways HBox played well and actually would have won by standard tournament rules. It actually seemed like he had to work harder to move in because he loses out on range and mobility but he did great shield grabs to work his way in. It's just that sadly his Kirby couldn't catch up to ZSS' mobility to finish it off.

Yeah Zero using ZSS down b to mix up his landing made it really hard for Kirby to track her down

Yeah, it looked like Mega Man had fired a Black Hole Bomb (Galaxy Man, Mega Man 9) for his Final Smash, and I have not problems with that. :D

Why would they do a reveal at the round table if there's no stream? I mean, maybe, but that just seems a little odd.

They stealth-revealed Wii Fit Trainer, but regardless I don't like the idea of a stealth reveal at a private round table if Reggie said there were more surprises coming up.

Man, that Invitational was awesome. So many great moments.

Its not often you see a bunch of pro players battle each other with items and Final Smashes enabled on banned stages in a venue as big as that with Sakurai present.

Professional Smash seems so boring to watch.

Items made this for me.

Not at all. When Wii Fit Trainer was revealed, it was during a non-streaming moment after the Nintendo Direct ended and suddenly every gaming website started posting about the news and finally Nintendo uploaded the Wii Fit Trainer video reveal. So it could happen.

At the end of the day today was a good day. So much fun from waking up watching nintendos digital event, watching the tree house all day and ending on smash. One of the best e3 days in recent memories. Crazy how much I felt like I was part of the e3 experience even though I was at home.

I've only played Brawl and I didn't like it that much but this event was great, best part of E3 so far ! I was randomly looking at Nintendo's Twitch channel hoping to catch some info about the games they showed during their Direct presentation but I ended up watching the entire thing.

Keighley was good, his intro was nice and he handled the Pikachu trolling pretty well. Both Sakurai and Reggie looked like they were really overwhelmed by the reaction.

It's really unexpected but I think that my biggest surprise of E3 2014 is that Nintendo managed to make me care about Smash Bros !
