Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Apparently the Nintendo Twitch feed mentions an announcement in 40 minutes I'm reading? Anyone wanna check that?

Not really, the leak happened just two months ago, by that time Greninja was ready. That'd mean the leaker was on-board the developing team only at the start of the game production. Could the leaker be a disgruntled and or fired employee? He said Nintendo was greedy with DLC after all.

Whoa, where's this coming from? When did we get that much insight from the leaker?

What's the best venue to send in input for the game? I'd like to try writing some stuff if they're really asking for improvements and the like. Doubt something like wavedashing or a similar system of accelerated movement could be implemented at this point, but if it's little things like allowing dash dancing, enabling DI or the like, then let's go.

That said, something about the Smash 4 invitational impressions is just too weird to me. No DI mechanic when I definitely saw it used in the Hungrybox/ZeRo match (Kirby's Up Throw sending ZSS at a trajectory up and to the right when in the previous match it sent someone straight up)? I'm definitely not going to knock any of those guys since they live and breathe this series but something's really weird.

Look like I won two bets so far.

Ryce for Little Mac, Mii and Pac Man bet
Boomstick for Pac Man or Ridley being in the game so Pac Man got in.

I will have avatars ready for both of you :)

Hmm. Are you sure? I thought Twitch is done for a night.

Neal Ronaghan: like the Mii Fighters, each character has 12 special variations.
7:23
Michael "TYP" Cole: You can select amongst 3 moves for each special attack slot
7:23
Neal Ronaghan: Mario has a fireball, a fast fireball, and a fire orb. not usable in For Glory
7:24
Neal Ronaghan: Palutena is different. she has unique special attacks; not derivative
From the roundtable.

So how the hell is Palutena going to work? What is going to be her default moveset if she has completely different attacks as custom moves?

Smash DI =/= DI. They are saying that there is not smash di which is a completly different thing from di. (Yes the naming sucks)

Probably like Uprising goddess powers

No shit. Of course they are, how else could you even plan out a project any other way? At one point a producer had to sit down and determine how many characters they can design, model and test with X budget in Y time.

What isn't real is the idea that slots are 1:1 in the sense that every character takes the same amount of time to design, create assets and code for and finalize, which is usually the point of contention.

I.E. Cutting Diddy going from Brawl to SSB4 wouldn't mean that Ridley could be included with no net loss.

Third leak:

Hey, guys.

Funny that this page is talking about a new e-mail, because that's exactly why I'm here. Received one last night, but missed it in the mix of all this crazy E3 coverae.

But there's not much new about it, so I didn't think it was worth posting on the site.

I'll leave what it says here, though, in case you guys can use it in any way.

Basically, I was told that:

- Last E3 before game's launch (obviously)
- Participating characters: Pac-Man, Mii Fighter, Goddess Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men (none of these are new, obv, so I take he means these are the participating characters for E3?)
- There has been internal debate about keeping Lucas versus Ness, apparently Lucas is likely to get the cut
- Nintendo is planning post-launch character DLC, source doesn't like this as he thinks it's greedy

And that's it. This E3 should make or break whether this guy's the real deal. Let's hope for the best! =)

I don't suppose anyone called Game and Watch if NeoRice makes an avatar for him?

I think every single veteran was called.

I know it's old by now, but I don't care. I'm just reading it.

Impressions and observations from invitational players:
http://meleeiton.me/2014/06/10/invitational-impressions/

Sounds like it could be the worst Smash game yet, or at least in contention. Hopefully the team at Nintendo is really listening to feedback. The grand finals of the invitational didn't look to hot either. And Sakurai's comment at today's roundtable inspires 0 confidence:

"When creating a game, we cannot just appeal to traditional fanbases. We need to reach out to new gamers, and cater to many target users."

Also, this is awful news if either point is remotely true:
Leak maybe said:

Brawl was his idea of that too, right? Sounds like his plan to 'appeal to everyone' is to try and make the game play worse for the people that enjoy it most. :(

We'll see though. Even if it's the worst Smash, it will probably be great. And I'm probably just jumping to conclusions. We still know so little about this game.

Wasn't there supposed to be new stages shown at the invitational? Most of the time was spent on Wily's Castle.

We did see 1 or 2 new items though.

I just contacted Best Buy about the Smash event. I asked about the coins specifically, and they said they had just received an email update saying that they will not have the coins at the event. Instead I was told that anyone who preorders during that period will receive the coin when they pick up the game, not just the first 70 people. I don't know if that is a nationwide deal or just my store, so ymmv.
