Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

No, that was definitely a huge change for the better

One of the biggest issues in Brawl was that players could hang by the edge and camp there due to the invincibility gained from it. It was extremely potent on Metaknight (and it made him really, really hard to deal with, to the point where they added a ledge grabbing limit at one point)

See more here:

I like that planking is dead. The invincibility frame abuse needed to go.

Although, if someone is far gone and would only be able to grab the ledge in the vulnerable state (after an Up B Special) and I grab the ledge, they should be done. I should be rewarded for that as a player.

But that's just my opinion. I don't dislike all of the changes. I'm just on the fence about being able to bump someone off the ledge. Invincibility frames gone? Love it.

Supposedly DK has an aerial version of Down B that spikes?

Also, Pit's forward B is a KO move. YE-YEAH.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Yeah that's unfortunate, though it helps out the characters with poor recoveries.

Took an image of the character select for theorists.

Fixed broken link!

Because X spent a little less than a day with the game and X says it's garbage.

We should trust X.

Of course that's the case. A game's quality, especially in a competitive environment will be based off of how the fundamentals of movement feels. If you can't do certain things than you know by the nature of those things what's possible in terms of approaching, baiting and defensive play.

I just don't see why people care about character colors when they can ask deeper questions about cancels, combos and seeing the potential for mind games.

Playing the game I can say that ledge stalling feels awkward if you jump because of the floatiness, but it's hard to know when a down input could have you fast fall, stuff like that can't be tested well in this setting.

Personally I think the competitive scene needs to unify and write a very respectful letter explaining what needs to be fixed or explained, melee was an incredible party game and has the most depth. If you put PM infront of casuals they will enjoy it equally but it has legs in the competitive scene that smash 4 won't in its current state.

If Nintendo wants high level smash on stream for the next 5 years, the game needs work, other wise it's melee and PM.

As I asked in another thread, can anyone that's playing confirm any voices? So far I've heard Link and Marth's Brawl voice but new voiceovers for Kirby and Fox. I understand the newcomers might not have any right now (or if they do they are hella quiet cause I can't hear them in all their videos)

Project M is NOTHING like melee. Its just a competitive version of brawl. Even from the trailer I never got a melee-vibe from it outside certain characters because it was their trademark stuff (marth).

What does this even mean? It has Melee physics, Melee engine, the top tier Melee characters have been modified back to their Melee versions to a frame-by-frame level. The only differences between Melee and PM Fox, for instance, are removing one frame of shine invincibility and blaster damage decaying with distance, plus a couple tweaks of damage for up throw and up aerial. Brawl Fox, on the other hand is a totally different character. The lower tier melee characters still are based on their Melee versions and the changes were made for balance. Yes, there are a bunch of characters brought in from Brawl, but they've had to be entirely changed around to work in the Melee engine and balance against the Melee cast.

That's just rude. You get invited to play in a tournament, play a new game for an hour or so and then backstab them on Facebook.

Opinions give cancer! Personally, I can see where she is coming from. She is a PM player that got told to not talk about PM at all, so this week PM doesnt exist for her. She didnt like the game and she's scared they go after PM now

Some of the newcomer voices like Greninja and Little Mac are still japanese. New Voice clips for Kirby and I think Fox as well. Pikachu is the same. Rosalina and Pit definitely have their most current voices in English. Bowser sounds like Bowser in the new Mario games, no stock Lizard/Dragon sounds.

I'm not sure about everyone else.

News Flash. Brawl is the competitive version of Brawl. Surprise, you don't need a game that plays like Melee to be competitive. And no, Project M is a Brawl mod that plays like Melee. I don't know how you could say otherwise.

No, the reason I'm criticizing them is completely different then the reason they're criticizing. They're getting on someone for little to no reason because someone essentially insulted something they like. Maybe if I was getting on them for liking Project M you'd have a point. JB didn't try and insult and badger people with what he said, these other two did. He essentially just said he doesn't like Project M.

My whole point was while that while you can criticize other peoples opinions, there are some things that you look silly for criticizing, especially when what they're criticizing doesn't relate to you in the slightest. You can't call someone out for an opinion when there's nothing in the opinion to disprove. At that point what are you calling out, the fact that someone else doesn't like something that you like?

S/he wasn't merely stating their dislike for PM though, but also saying rendered not playable for other people (or rather that's what it came off to people before s/he clarified :P). And even then, you can ask for clarification, like why the dislike, and challenge those notions lying beneath opinion.

This game is clearly not finished at all (as evidence by the crash hahaha). Making big generalizations about the game at this point is jumping the gun imo.
