Yeah, but that's why when you have people playing to win, you have rules to match, not this time limit stuff. Gotta respect Zero tho, aside from that match, he won all of them solidly.

My question got drowned on the last page.

Is it just me or do characters die at lower percents than they did in Brawl? The level of survivability a character had in Brawl was astronomical at times.

put it simply,melee had no online.
sakurai knew some "glitches" were present,and was curious about what players would have done with them...
that was acceptable for an only local multiplayer game,since between friend you can agree first on how you want to play..online it's not possible,that's why from brawl onward such "glitches" has been eliminated.
nintendo's interest and smash community's one differs..they want a party game balanced based on all its aspects and that everyody can pick up and play..the smash vommunity wants characters balanced on no items 1 vs 1 no hazard stages

They were both very humble about the opportunity.

Not everyone gets to get to do something like this, but some that do go home and cry about it not being as fun as a modded version of a game created by the company that invited you.

Even if you didn't like it, have some class.. at the least come off like you were grateful.

DK has an aerial down B
Villager can plant more than one tree
Link's dash attack doesn't completely suck
Sonic has more KO power

Pretty much. It's nice to want to balance everything for competitive, but stuff like free for alls and stage hazards are such huge parts of the game that you need to consider them too in terms of balance. Some characters are clearly designed to perform better when there are multiple enemies and they can launch big attacks while other players are distracted with each other

It certainly seems that way. In particular, I noticed the Bowser Bomb, Kirby's Air Drop, and Mega Man's side and down smashes getting some very early KOs. Rosalina's up air looks pretty powerful, too.

There seems to be more kill moves in this than there are in brawl. Plus no momentum canceling.

What are you talking about? I'll say it again, the amount of Brawl fiction in this thread is amazing. I'm old school so I'll let you in on a secret. We had to make Melee work as a tourney fighter as well. Took a lot of work, a lot of arguing, and a lot of experimenting until we arrived where we are now.

Yeah yeah I know zero suit is the better out of the match up between Kirby but if there was just a little more time

That's why it was so frustrating. Hungry is obviously a much better player than Scarf, but because ZSS is so much better than Kirby in every way, Hungry had to work so much more to get his kills.
But then Scarf lamed it out because he knew he would lose, and then use ZSS's mobility to kill Kirby in SD because there aint no way Kirby is getting in without getting hit once.

Don't hate the player hate the game. ZeRo was just utilizing the tools he was given. It's up to Sakurai to fix it, if he deems it something worth fixing.

I don't think the matchup was as lopsided as people are saying it is. Hbox was doing a good job punishing the side-b's with throws. Kirby has troubles getting in, but once he does, dat upgraded up throw

Mhm

HungryBox is widely considered the best Jigglypuff Melee player in the world and is extremely devoted to Melee, and yet he's shown nothing but respect and gratitude towards Nintendo. That's the right attitude to have after being invited to invitational, not... this.

I'm actually hoping he sounds like he did in Bowser's Inside Story, but after a bit of YouTubing I listened to what he sounds like in 3D World/Mario Wii U and have to say if they use those voices then I would be okay with it. Just god, no more fake sounding lizard noises please. Also I reversely, I hope they KEEP DK's voice from Brawl cause I absolutely HATE how he sounds in his DKC Returns games, like they purposely made him sound like a big goofy dumb monkey. In Brawl his roars sound like what I would expect from a big huge ass gorilla who practically rules an entire island by himself.

Well, I have a feeling that the characters in franchise (which would be organized by row) would push other series to second row, vera via.

ROW 1: Mario > Luigi > Peach > Bowser > Rosalina > Yoshi > Wario? > Donkey Kong > Diddy > ????

ROW 2: Samus > Zero Suit Samus > Link > Zelda > Shiek > Ganondorf? > Toon Link > Villager > Pit > Palutena

Half of this I don't understand and I can send you the link when I get home (at E3) where Sakurai says he knew about Wavedashing and thought it was fine.

I just think for a game to have legs and to get respect, it needs to be competitive, as competitive players we know what that means and what options need to be available

This was a great post, and a lot of catering towards the casual audience went into Brawl. I wonder what would've happened if Sakurai wasn't worried about 7 year olds getting bodied online. The saddest thing about this was Brawl's online sucking. I wouldn't call Melee's meta game or advanced techniques glitches though, happy accidents sounds better to me.

To add to that, he mentioned how hard balancing a game like this is. Some are better 1v1, 2v2, and 1v1v1v1. Some are better with items on, others would be better with them off. Then you have to account for character match ups, and whatnot. Melee had enough there that gave any character a chance, even though the better characters were always chosen. Meta Knight was straight wrecking fools, and Brawl hits its ceiling earlier which gives MK an even bigger advantage competitively. However, he's not as big of a threat in 4 player free for all with items on. Which was probably what Sakurai and his crew saw.
