Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

I won't even be mad if that teaser is pre-rendered, I just refuse to believe it isn't. Nothing this generation has even come close, how the fuck can they pull that off? UC2 and 3 looked spectacular as well, but even they were comparable to their contemporaries. I'll believe it when I see gameplay.

It's not hard to believe. It's a proper next gen game and it's made by Naughty Dog. The armchair programmers who think they have it all it all figured out 7 months into the console cycle are going to eat glorious crow on this.

One thing I do ponder about is what will come out of that studio in terms of visual fidelity during the twilight years of the console.

I laugh every time when people say we are already hitting the ceiling.

Just comparing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to The Last of Us...

...we're in for a good gen folks. :)

To be frank, the PS3 was a bitch to program for compared to the PS4. The people expecting the same leaps in graphics are going to be dissapointed. I am not talking out of experience, but I think most can agree.

I am still fucken hyped for UC4, though!

Maybe we need to see what Halo 5 looks like, cause that really the only big next gen game I can think of that would have an equivocal budget/attention. Unless someone else can think of another.

Actually it's incredibly hard to believe, hence all the debate earlier in this thread and the other. They have literally blown away every other game we've seen. This a legit "WOW" moment in terms of graphics, an actual HUGE improvement.

HOLY WOW. Needs its own thread. My goodness.

what is his track record, though? i want to believe--actually, i do think their games will (eventually) look like that--but i'd be hesitant considering he's just a junior member on that forum.

no offence to junior members of course.

If true, I tip my hat to you NG.

I agree. The PS4 will need less time to show its real potential and it's already showing.

Well we also have to remember that as of now the devs can only use 4/5 GB of the PS4's 8 GB RAM, as the other 3-4 are for future proofing for Sony. When Sony begins to let other developers use some of that reserve once they straighten the OS out, it's gonna get so much better.

Well, there is this too:
They (Naughty Dog’s Studio Coordinator Rodney Reece and Lead FX Artist Keith Guerrette) confirmed to us that the Uncharted 4 trailer showcased during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference was a part of an actual level in game.

Secondly, they also confirmed that the entire trailer was running in real time on the PlayStation 4 and it was all in-engine.

Sounds like it's really real.

When I saw The Division gameplay on xbone, I thought that that was close to the ceiling for this generation. Barring aliasing it looks phenomenal and then I saw ND put out. I think it's hard for so many of us to believe that a game looking like that can run at 60fps while running at 1080p when other games that either run at that framerate (titanfall, KZSF MP, CoDAW, BF4) or that resolution (KZSF SP, inF SS, Destiny) look phenomenal (esp. the latter collection) but fall quite short of what ND just unleashed.

Looking at games like Quantum Break, AC: U and The Division, I knew we had some ways to go at 30fps, however.

Honestly, I do not think the amazement would dull much if ND decided to lock it at 30fps in the end.

I think other games we're seeing come close technically. But the level of detail and animation on Drake and the environment pushes it beyond. It's not just that they're using the hardware extremely well, they're just better than everyone else.

Yeah I'm biased.

But I was super impressed by Batman and that's a multiplatform open world game. If that was real PS4 footage I'll be super happy with how that game looks.

Yeah, I agree. After what I've seen in The Order and even Second Son, that trailer doesn't look like it's totally from another world (or gen). That said, I'm as impressed with Uncharted 4 as the next guy. Diminishing returns, indeed.

EDIT: I'm not an expert, but I'm still wondering why so many people thought that The Division is too much for next-gen consoles. Sure, it looks great, and we are talking about Ubisoft and their "downgrades", but still. To me it doesn't look that much better than Second Son. That's off-topic though.

Even is just cut scene, it was one of the best if not the best quality cut scene out there.
I'll be so happy if we get this kind of cut scene for the whole game.
If gameplay is only 50% that good? It's already out of this world. Too crazy.

If they do pull this off, all they need to show next is continue of this scene in to gameplay.

Yes but even in the original Order teaser there was very obvious aliasing on like the bottom of the train tracks, plus the fact that they said ingame and cutscenes are the same assets, I personally felt it was very easy to believe/understand/see that the Order was in fact legit. But look at the UC4 teaser and look at the tech threads for it, it looks CG, pretty much everybody looking at the teaser thought it was CG, people were bringing up the old TLoU teaser intro message to compare with UC4 because they were so sure it was pre-rendered. Experienced gaffers who are using to seeing CG/pre-rendered trailers of games thought it was just that. If it's true, UC4 is seriously THE next gen game, as it'll be real time in CG quality.

I agree with you, this showing of the game is above all else (even though I personally didn't think it was CG as I had stated a few post back). But like I said we have seen games already that made us skeptical to some extent and they have turned out to be real. So it's not really out this world that arguably "the best of the best" can reach this level. The unbelievable part for me was the 60fps which they said they're targeting, so no one knows if the final game will be at this frame rate.

You have to consider the specific part that they showed as well. A dark, low contrast scene with very shallow depth of field is a very easy way to hide the imperfections that would shatter the illusion of this being legit CG. I'm pretty sure some parts of the final game will have at least a little aliasing and some artifacts.

Very good points. Next E3 can't come fast enough.

Why didn't they just say before the trailer "Everything seen is real-time"??? They would have blown up LA with the amount of megaton.

Why are many people so quick to jump to this conclusion? The PS4 is a static piece of hardware with eight times the amount of memory available to programmers, with substantially more powerful CPU/GPU/GPGPU capability than the ~8 year old hardware that it's replacing. Of course we're going to see continuing improvement that's substantially better than what we've seen in the past.

I imagine Naughty Dog would be thrilled about people doubting that it's actually real time (as it seems to be). That has to be one of the best compliments for them to hear, that they've reached a level where people can't believe it's not prerendered or CG.

I'm ignorant when it comes to computer specs and hardware, but is it more important to have greater amounts of ram than it is important to have a more powerful graphics card? I am trying to understand how a mediocre graphics card can be sufficient if the amount of ram on a console is increased considerably.

This shit confuses me.

And holy shit if that's real time as according to Interference.

Nope. Don't believe it. My mind can't even comprehend playing something that looks like that. If it looks like that while playing I will shit in my hands and rub it on my scalp.

WTF!? If this is real-time and gameplay will actually look like this or very very close to this, It's like shitting on anything we've seen out of next gen up until now it's not even funny.

I can't believe such thing, know ND are talented but this is too much even for them, If it will look like this I'm going to faint! and 60 FPS? This is not real, no way.

There was definitely a lot of tease in the trailer. I think it favors them to play that "debatable" card and have people talking back and forth about whether it's real or not while anxiously awaiting for the next trailer.

Like some others have said they positioned the camera right behind Drake and had it linger for just the right amount of time for you to say "OMG!!! This is gameplay!?" and then quickly went on to next scene leaving you at the peak of your excitement for you to build all these ideas in your head.

I think the next trailer they will something similar, but then actually have the HUD appear and have that huge megaton moment.

Most of the other games we've seen have been crossgen bullshit developed for 6 different platforms at once or 1st party teams who were rushing to make launch and developing for a moving target. Just because these consoles are similar in architecture to PC's doesn't mean we should discount the normal improvements we see over a console's lifespan. Mark Cerny stated this console cycle will see the biggest leap ever from launch software to late generation games so no offense to anyone here but I'm going to take his word over that of "experienced gaffers".

My guess is that the scene with him waking up and walking into the jungle actually is currently the start of a level. Instead of showing gameplay or fading out to something else they decided to pan the camera and possibly added the cages just for this trailer shot

The Order is a cross gen bullshit? Cause this shit makes it look like a 16 bit game, Sorry but i don't believe this, I just can't, nothing even come close to this.

C'mon man really. The Order, while inferior, was like THE top graphics that people couldn't believe were real until this came out.

The Order looks ridiculously good as well but the fact that it is letterboxed and still seems to be struggling with 30 fps makes U4 that much more insane.
