Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

as good as this is sounding, its seeming very limited in audience reach, especially on a platform like the 3DS. it'll be fun to see what type of gamble their taking here.

Love everything I am hearing and the people behind it have the pedigree to back it up. Can't wait to see this tomorrow.

Everything I'm hearing

I'm talking about the mechanics not the surface details

VC is a sub-genre in itself. It is basically what would happen if you played an action game during your turn. There shouldn't be one series with that and IIRC I think there have been previous games with that kind of mechanics before VC.

Too lazy to follow everything right now so I cant wait to see it on the Treehouse tomorrow.

I'm not really into SRPGs but I'm eager to check this out.

Are you implying that a pad would have better control than a stylus though? It's not like Mouse is an option on 3ds

I personally liked the feeling of fps with a pad over the metroid DS style, but if you take in account the 3DS hardware it might indeed be for the best to go with the stylus aiming so that's actually true, it's a wise choice all in all.
I guess it's just me reminding myself of Metroid on DS, which left me a bad taste.

Anyway it looks interesting, sounds like VC which i liked and that's pretty much all i care about, time to go sleep and wait for some footage tomorrow if i got that right.

This is exactly why people follow E3 news so closely, and get so excited about the possibility of new announcements. Every once in a while, you hear about something glorious you never would have seen coming, and couldn't have imagined if you tried.

And Nintendo just did it twice

No matter how much time I spent thinking about E3, a paintball shooter with squids and a IS steampunk TBS/action hybrid were nowhere on anyone's radar.

If they're fans of Valkyria Chronicles (and let's face it, the IS guys most likely did play VC since they're strategy rpg fans) -- why wouldn't Nintendo work with Sega on developing a new IP with the VC team instead? Seems kinda lame to copy their game...
I can't recall properly but it seems that Sony at some point something to do with the Valkyris Ip, in fact the anime was produced by Aniplex wich is a company owned by Sony.

Nintendo Life ‏@nintendolife 31s

Characters wear backpack-boilers, with a certain number of little puffs of steam that power both movement & attacks each turn #E3

"If you are spotted while exploring, your move (steam consumed) is locked in."

So conversely, if you AREN'T spotted, you can redo your movements to find a more optimal solution?

So it's basically the most cherished Sega IP of the past 10 years, combined with Fire Emblem/Advance Wars, set in steampunk London, with superhero agents led by Abraham Lincoln, fighting aliens from outer space, with a comic book style, no overhead map, and third-person shooting.

Basically.
