Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Reading a ton of previews and most people are eating crow for the 3DS installment. They all seem to be loving it.

I just hope my OG 3DS' screen is decent enough for Smash...

Pic of the day. The goddess is up to bat for the Home-run Contest, a returning mini-game on the 3DS version! It's been streamlined with added features here and there, like sturdier glass and doubled speed for long hits. You can also have fun comparing your rankings for this mini-game with your Global Smash Power.

Moves themselves are definitely Brawl-based. The character movements however I felt were faster overall, with the floating turned down to 1 from Brawl's 10. It's funny you mention 64, because it felt like almost 64 levels turned down a notch due to adding Brawl's air game instead of Melee's. I think if they turned the float to 0 and reduced some lag aspects, it'd feel more like Melee.

One move I felt was sped up was Kirby's punching move when holding down A- which you can still do. It was kind of like the start up in Brawl, but then sped up to faster than Brawl and felt more like Melee (honestly felt more powerful than Melee too). I'm thinking if I have time I'll try to play Melee and Brawl tomorrow with Kirby and see how the physics feel there in my head.

I wish I had more time to look at everything, but I'm still thinking it's Brawl's mechanics that are throwing Melee players off since the games play very differently from each other. If only we had a Brawl-only competitive player's opinion.

Overall I think the gameplay is fine but just needs a little more fine tuning and polishing.

Truthfully, if you can watch this and think there won't be competitive play, you're probably cray cray. Melee players may not like it, but there will be people who will want to play this in tourney's provided it isn't fundamentally broken like Brawl was (Meta-Knight). The video starts when the tourney players started 1 on 1 matches in the Treehouse.

Ken looking pretty slick with the Red Marth in that video.

Does that mean it's 3DS exclusive? I would've thought a staple mode like Home-run Contest would be in both versions.

I feel like this is a really stupid question given how much information has been shared this week, but has there been any mention of whether the Wii-U version has an equivalent (but different) mode, singleplayer or otherwise, to Smash Run?

As far as I know, we haven't seen anything of the Wii U's exclusive modes. At this rate, we probably won't until the 3DS version is out.

It looks like the kind of thing you should be able to mash out of, like a regular grab, but I have no idea. Each time I've seen the item it's been a kill.

The beetle moves pretty slowly to start off, though, so it seems to me like a "you deserve it" situation.

i have this inkling that since the 3ds version is coming out first out side of the cast they wont focus on the single player aspects till release of the wiiu version

Palutena! Also Home-run Contest makes a return. Hope that it returns in the Wii U version as well.

I've actually been meaning to comment on this. If that item stays unchanged, it's automatically the most hilarious thing ever introduced to the series.

That ain't Falco
's Final Smash
.

Do you guys really think that home-run contest is 3DS exclusive? There's no way that'll happen, and it didn't confirm that. No reason to worry about that.

It looks like it flies up too fast to mash out of, though. From what I've seen, it looks to me like a OHKO, which is pretty surprising for a regular item.

The caption does call it "a returning mini-game on the 3DS version!" If it's on both, why not just call it "a returning minigame?" Plus, in the past, Sakurai usually hasn't used a 3DS shot to reveal something unless it's exclusive to the 3DS. As far as I can remember, all the AT, item, and gameplay mechanic reveals have been done with a Wii U picture.

I remember for Melee all advise online was like use Yoshi's flutter kick just keeping using Yoshi's flutter kick so I used Yoshi's Flutter Kick and never unlocked the Paper Mario trophy.

Years later I'd learn that the stats in Melee were adjusted for the PAL version so Yoshi's flutter kick wasn't quite as strong which is why that tactic never worked.

Oh regarding the 3DS version, I actually walked away kind of positively. I know everyone (myself included) says seeing a game in motion is better than seeing screenshots (especially when they're pretty bad), but the game looks really nice. It looks about as good as Brawl.

And I really loved Smash Run. Part of it being that you can speed up your character, and it really helps with the gameplay.

So Tingle is an assist trophy again.

One day he will be playable...

One day...

So since character DLC is all but confirmed what are people's thoughts on if future Ammibos were alternate ways to get DLC? Like say in 6 months when the Luciana DLC comes out, you can buy her for $5 on the e-shop or pick up her Amiibo for I guess $10? and get the DLC data along with the figure?

For those wanting see the product packaging for Amiibo for Super Smash, look at the link:

They are quite cute :D

Nice packaging :)
