Fun while it lasted - GAF blocked at work

My old job didn't block GAF or Reddit, but did block Facebook or Twitter. It was pretty cool too because they still blocked certain parts of Reddit like /r/WTF and such. I know someone in IT was a GAFer or Redditor.

Yup, works again, I assume they recieved a lot of reports. Don't mess with GAF.

Which is why you report it as being an incorrect classification on that site, and hope your work doesn't block it based on forums/newsgroups

Forums/Newsgroups always worked, gaming never did, it's back again, hooray.

"Forums/Newgroups" is indeed one that gets blocked. That is the very reason I can't log in to GAF at work, after submitting my username and password it comes up blocked for that category. Not every forum or newsgroup is blocked of course, but I come across a lot of them.

Going straight to neogaf.com/forum was working for me for an hour last night, then it started showing blocked. .net never worked for me. I did try going to a page on google that was .net/forums and then random thread/page number for whatever the thread was and got in that way. As the night went on, I somehow closed the last of my tabbed GAF threads and found out that .com was unblocked.
So that is nice.

Gaf blocked for me at work yesterday around 3pm.

This morning it's unblocked.

Any idea how this happened to everyone at once?

Been browsing GAF at work for about 5 years and never had it blocked. Considering the amount if time I spend on it I'm stunned lol.

Have you guys figured out if you're all using the same filter?

I like to imagine some dude who works the graveyard shift at whatever company it is realized he couldn't get on GAF and added it to the whitelist overnight.

me too! Blocked yesterday, working now. I guess our companies use some kind of similar parent filter. This has actually happened to me before, too. So don't lose faith if you get blocked :-D

I choose to believe evilore just bribed a bunch of companies to keep gaf unblocked.

Or reporting it as an incorrect classification actually did something.

That was me, guys. You are welcome. lol

GAF got blocked once for a few weeks, then mysteriously returned.

Filters are dumb anyways. I like how I can spend all day on ESPN.COM/MLB.COM/whateversports.com and fantasy sports league sites like my co-workers, but I can't go to MLG.COM or just about any other gaming related site, even though its essentially the exact same content.

But durrr huuurr durrr games herp derp.

Also my co-worker spends all fucking day watching fox news and other conservative junk on youtube (which we can access freely for some reason). He does this 5 days a week for hours at a time.

I watched a handful of gaming-related videos on youtube and got a message from an admin complaining about my "high bandwidth usage" and reminding me that company internet is for "business needs only". My co-worker? Never a single complaint.

Chance he is watching at 360p or lower and you're watching 720 or even 1080? There's a huge difference in file size.

Also, it may have been what else is going on; my IT dept only looks for bandwidth hogs when whatever is eating bandwidth is causing problems.

So today I realized that GAF is not blocked at work anymore...

the .net is nice, but you can't post from it, having the official page is much better

Got a new job last week, actually really good job. They are using websense and the .net doesn't work for me. Luckily my boss and IT director are tight so im hoping I can rectify this issue in the coming weeks.

Anyone with experience getting around Websense please help.

Congrats on the job. :)
Better not to make it your first task at work to get the internet unlocked. ;p

So the only method that works for me from work at the moment is accessing GAF via its IP address. I checked to confirm that it's the actual address and not a spoofer scamming for login credentials.

Has anyone found a way to actually log in using this method? It's like it won't establish the login cookie when accessing GAF via IP address. If anyone can find a way I'd be eternally grateful!

The http://neogaf.com/forum address doesn't work for you? I was never able to save my login using the IP address myself.

Are you a domain or enterprise level admin? You could get around it a few ways if you are.
Well, I am a domain-level admin, but I can't change my own groups in AD if that's what you're suggesting. They restrict us pretty smartly here.

I tend to use TeamViewer to remote into my home PC just for GAF and a few other blocked sites, but that can be a pain and a waste of power at home.

Do you have access to control your NIC settings?

Do you have access to control your NIC settings?
Yes, I do. The limiting factor seems to be that all incoming Internet traffic needs to pass through our proxy or else it's blocked outright. The reason TV works, so I understand, is because it finds an open port in the firewall and punches its way out.

Even SSH tunneling never worked here. Their security is pretty tight.

If you have any ideas relating to the NIC settings, I'm all ears!
