I'll be 40 in 10 yrs. :O
I'll be... actually, let's not talk about this. :(

Anyone know how to sprint with Remote Play control scheme?

In bed, shooting things on my Vita! It's so smooooth! But I'd like to know how to run/do gestures !
My guess is it'll be mapped to one half of the front/rear panels, unless it's not completely mapped in the alpha. Wouldn't gestures be on the d-pad, same as with the DS4?

Or they don't want you hitting level 50 for the first stage of end game. Maybe they want to increase level caps/more endgame over time?

Yes i know alpha and betas deliberately have low level caps and destiny is no exception - it is level 8 though, not 20. But all the end game gear currently shows level 20 - i would be surprised if it is higher then that at launch. But it is not bugging me as much anymore - i can see that skills, weapons and gear are all still integral parts to endgame just like any good MMO and it looks like destiny will have that covered.

I totally thought it would've been one of the panels too, but no such luck. Also, I don't think the D-pad is mapped to anything!

The control scheme works pretty flawlessly otherwise. I like grenade throws/melee attacks with a corner tap! Enjoying the Alpha thus far!

The level cap is that low, huh? Well I hope there's a lot of content available, because if this thing is on a 10 year plan... I can't entirely see investing too much time into it. I love what I've seen so far, but I really don't want to feel like there's a major lack in content. I don't want to grind out match after match or raid after raid because there's literally nothing to do after the first week.

Anyway, it seems great, but content, content, content. Please.
There will be more than one game in that 10 years.

Is it end game gear, or just the highest gear that is made available in the alpha?

But I hate the emphasis on the end game. I feel like it takes away from the rest of it. These games should be about the journey, man. It should take me like 3 months to reach the cap, at least, not 3 days.

Your point being that if I don't like it I should just play something else? or did I misunderstand that?

Is there anyway to see those membes when online in Destiny?

I hear what you are saying, a sense of progression and jorney is very important to a game like this, I agree. However, I also think having the progression revolve largely around spending a huge amount of time just reaching the level cap so you can start doing the fun stuff is a bad game design philosophy. I would much prefeer that you hit the cap quickly. And then still have a lot of places to go and explore. Of course if the progression in an mmo-ish game like this isn't largely based on a lengthy leveling progression, then there needs to be a big focus on other things that you can improve on your character/account. I don't know whether bungie have revealed enough about the game mechanics that we know for certain what those will be. But one this I think is very nice, that I don't think is in other mmo/loot based games, is having gear with still trees and unlocks like the what we have in Destiny.

I just played the first bit now jumping onto some pvp.. question: I died then when I respawned in the SP part of the game I came back not looking as the same character I created?

1. Yes. I find the special and heavy one's really useful on strikes. When you use one be it any of them they all go on 5 minute cooldown before you can use another.

2. Materials are used for upgrades later on. Also some you collect like Spinmetal can be traded into some NPCS to gain rep, etc.

3. Was there a question here?

4. It's not class specific. Everyone can do it.

5. Some enemies do take more damage from elemental weapons.

6. At this time it really is unknown.

who do you trade the spinmetal to?

If you are curious about leveling watch this interview with Tyson Green.

Basically think of it this way. Yes, your level cap is 20. But almost every single piece of gear can be leveled. You are also leveling different focusses, which is seperate from your level. You are building up new gear.

The RPG system sounds fascinating.
That's actually really cool

No the ten year plan doesn't just mean this game coming out this year. There will be multiple Destiny's released over the ten years, all with probably dlc increasing the level cap.

I'm playing this and I'm not too sure why people have been getting so excited about it.

From what I can see this is basically Fallout with co-op right?

No, no, this is Fallout Online. http://www.moddb.com/games/fonline-2238
It's made by some Russians, I think.

I can only imagine that the level cap makes it easier for them to balance the pvp system? I'm sure having less levels also means people find matches faster, due to the playerbase not being strung all over the place.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but a lack of content seems to be one of the biggest issues that plagues fledgling MMOs. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why they've shied away from calling it an MMO. I don't know how large the game will be, but it's always somewhat of a worry. If I can knock it out in a month of casual play, only to end up waiting a year for DLC, I'll be disappointed. Again, though, it comes back mainly to game developers focusing on raids and pvp. Neither of those interest me, but that's probably my fault for not being some kind of target demographic. Anyway, I'll just end it here. There's no point in me speaking of things which are still a ways away from happening. In the meantime I'll hope for the best. What I've seen so far definitely seems fun!

Played for 30 minutes.. Accidentally went into a subway and got destroyed. Them I joined someone's game and I'm jumped ahead... Didn't understand shit, but managed to take down the warlock, got some loot then I seen how deep this game is. Subclasses, weapons, ships, vehicles, the world is unique and beautiful.

Between playing this and the leaked Bloodborne trailer, I'm feeling the new gen feel

Is it end game gear, or just the highest gear that is made available in the alpha?

Highest in the Alpha but no one can equip it nor buy it - it is level 20 gear and the artificial cap for alpha is level 8. It is inaccessible except to see on vendors in the tower. I am assuming it is endgame gear because the gear is classed as legendary gear.

But I hate the emphasis on the end game. I feel like it takes away from the rest of it. These games should be about the journey, man. It should take me like 3 months to reach the cap, at least, not 3 days.

I normally agree but destiny seems to be in a unique position in that each weapon has its own leveling/skill tree that needs experience to level up, as well as the fact that it seems you still keep gaining skills and abilities after level cap making the level cap simply an artificial boundary rather then a limitation.

I do still hope though that the amount of time it takes to level decreases though, which i think it will as it seems to me they have artificially raised XP gains for alpha.

Its official, the alpha sold me on the game. I'm back on dat Destiny hype ship. At first, it looked like a generic shooter, but now that I've played it I see what they are going for. Wanna focus on competitive multiplayer? They have that in, and a very good one at that. Story? It's in the there too. Co-op? Also in there. You can play all 3 and actually make a difference in your build, which you use in any mode on the fly. Its brilliant. Can't wait for this game to actually drop.

I like it so far but it hasn't blown me away, I don't think it looks any better than decent and the framerate although solid doesn't help the gunplay. Weapon sound was a bit weak also, I'll still be buying it but I'm not expecting any GOTY awards from what I've played so far.

Absolutely hooked, they've only improved the game since the last time I played, wish the cap wasn't lvl 8 and I already completed the Devils strike, that boss eh? Went into PvP and seems pretty balanced, supers are one shot but every one has them so it doesn't bother me. The map feels designed well for their domination gametype "Control". I'm assuming the lvl cap in the beta will be 20 based on all the rep vendors gear and stuff like that, will prolly PvP for the rest of the Alpha and wait for the Beta in July.

Is there a wiki anywhere that explains the game more fully in easy to understand chunks? Not got into the alpha part of bungie yet as PSN password is not working....

Played a bit tonight by myself, it was loads of fun. Joined the GAF clan and can't wait to play with some other peeps in the future. Playing it definitely helped me get what it was about. I love being able to spawn a speeder wherever I am and just cruise around the level.

The main loot 'n shoot part seems very reminiscent of Borderlands while the shooter element is a bit more like Halo, especially the more reactive AI and shields. Pretty cool, and I like that, after a few hours of play, there isn't a focus on constantly picking up trash items to disintegrate so far in the Old Russia area for the alpha, anyway. The auto-pop up move while behind lower cover is nice, the auto pick-up of glimmer currency and loot is also nice so that you're not spending your time doing things that would always happen in the OCD looting treadmill template. The missions are sensibly started with a streamlined quest-giver in the zone style, and the world feels large and filled with little difficult spots to come back to, like some MMO and point 'n click looter worlds. Everything about this seems to come from the angle of making the FPS work with a better-tuned MMO/loot 'n shooter, like they're trying to make this one FPS tackle every other FPS hybrid known to do well in the market...and they seem like they're on target to do well on that end. Don't like the city with its spread out vendors and mission-givers as they waste more time than is necessary, but it's a public lobby and social interaction space, like an instanced GW1 town. Also don't care for the short respawn times, but it's necessary to the public networking mingle that happens in the open fields. Seems likes this is the the co-op shooter to beat. Dinklage as ghost AI/exposition and lore machine seems too sedate, but he's not yelling at least. The control and visuals are nice, though I wonder why this isn't 60fps on PS4 (and X1) given how relatively simple it looks, like a top-end last gen title, though I know it is cross-gen. Great Bungie art and skyboxes with a more reserved, but effective soundtrack and nice very Halo control to it. Really like the variance in lighting and mood. Will probably be a day-one purchase for X1 since I prefer the controller and my friends list is more populated there. Super-solid stuff and I hope that the other planets offer very different-feeling surroundings as I'm a bit tired of picking through destroyed civilization in these kinds of games, but it is one of many places to go.

Only got a chance to play the one mission but I really liked the look and feel of the game. The only thing I didn't like was the voice acting... Feels so out of place.

I definitely share your concerns but I would assume the level cap isn't a static final number, if Bungie notes these concerns we could see it being raised quickly after release. Another thing is what I've read about it being more of a loot rather than level based "MMO" would mean that to me the main journey of the game would be getting end game loot and levelling that up rather than just levelling your character up, which to me sounds just as engaging.

Do you really hear Dinklage often? I agree with the voice needing some added/reworked effects but I'm curious as to how often he speaks for his voice to be such a unanimous "problem".

It's not a problem as such, it was used in the two games I played last night and to me it just doesn't sound like a finished polished product, it sounds like a place holder to me. If that was the final version then it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I would be surprised.

I'm not kidding when I say this but this is going to be a big game changer for me. I've always been a gamer but Halo was a big turning point for me, i'm feeling this will be the same thing. Especially now i'm older and can appreciate things better.

The game looks gorgeous, the menus, user interface are gorgeous. I love the movement the feel of navigating around the menus and options. The music is incredible especially that main choir theme one. I'm in awe!

Already the bungie.destiny site is complex with a billion options, tracking stats, social elements and stuff..

I think i'm going to really get into this game. PvP is fun as ever but co-op will be a massive step up. It's a little odd not hearing the Halo MP announcer guy voice but the new one is alright.

If people are doubting or debating on getting a Xbox one or PS4 I think this is the game to push them over the edge (I know its last gen too, but it won't be nearly was impressive.)

His voice is used for every mission briefing/etc.. in addition to his character's speeches while playing?

If it's very good. i'll get it on both...

I'm surprised to say that I'm impressed with my time in Alpha. The vehicle controls extremely well and is thus a blast to watch. The graphics look better and more artistically fluid than the marketing filters and websites imply. The technical quality is great with a smooth 1080p picture and plenty of subtle effects to give it a polished, spectacular future atmosphere. There is an excellent sense of scale. The Titan's upgraded melee punch and slam down moves are satisfying. And guns make for satisfying pops.

I'm very much looking forward to what I've seen on a grand, social scale.

It also makes me miss Mass Effect so badly.

I think it's safe to say, I suck balls on the moon map. Was doing really well on the earth based one yesterday, even managed MVP a couple of times, but getting totally destroyed on the moon one and I keep getting it every time I go into the crucible :(

Managed to play a few more hours before school today. Got some more gear and completed the strike on brave difficulty. So I managed to find some more things about the game that I think could be better :P

1. Patrol missions.

First off I'm not a big fan of the fact that the only missions you get in patrol mode, all come from the exact same rod looking thing placed all around the zone. Would prefeer some variety somehow, so I don't like to feel my patrol sessions consists of walking from rod to rod, picking up missions.

I'm also not a big fan of getting a mission, and then have to litterally travel to a completely different part of Old Russia on the other side of it. For three reasons.
It just creates a lot of travel time that becomes somewhat tedious after a while.
And there's no way of knowing how far away the objective is located, it might be in the area right next to the one your in, but it might also be be several areas away from the location you pick up the mission in.
It also is very annoying if I want to complete missions in an area with lvl 5 enemies, and I then get sent to an area with enemies that are either too low or too high in lvl.

2. Bullet sponge bosses.
I did the Devil's Lair strike mission on the easiest setting with 2 random people. The strike is lvl 6, but we were lvl 8, 8 and 7. Personally I vastly overgeared the place according to the game itself. and I imagine that the 2 other players were at least adequately geared for the easy version of the strike as well.

However, we still spend the majority of the strike mission on the spider tank and end boss fights. The spider tank fight took us probably 12-13 minutes to kill, and the end boss around 8-9 minutes. That's just too much time spend pumping bullets, grenades and rockets into an enemy imo. In fact, most raid bosses in WoW on heroic don't takes this long to kill, unless your raid is generally undergeared for the fight.

And I feel I need to mention that yes, we did shoot the legs on the spider tank and revealed it's core several times throughout the fight. I'm sure we could have done a much better job of course, but most people are gonna fight these bosses disorganized like we did.

This criticim is mainly regarding the Brave difficulty level, on Legendary I want the bosses to be hard and tough, and require players to play well to make the bosses managable. However even then I could imagine seeing myself feeling that the fights are too long. I don't think a boss in this type of game should take longer to kill than a legitemate end game raid boss on hardmode, in a standard straight up mmo like WoW. 4-6 minutes would probably be a good area to aim for in regards to how much time bosses should take to kill imo.

3. Spider Tank cannon readability
I find that the Spider Tanks cannon can be very hard to read. By this I mean that it can very hard to properly avoid it's cannon attack or know when it will fire. I've gotten killed a couple of times because I was simply unable to tell that it was targeting me, of course the cannon was in my general direction, but I was unable to tell that it was actually me that was the one being aimed at. I'm guessing the laser targeting is supposed to be the thing that tells you that you should be standing here. However that laser beam doesn't seem to target exactly where the Spider Tank will shoot, nor always appear. Making it frustrating when you get blown up despite moving away from the laser targeting, or simply dying because the Spider Tank fired the cannon without any laser beam ever appearing near you to indicate your being targeted.

If any of you bothered you read all that, please keep in mind that I'm not out to hate on the game, but I know Bungie people like Urk read this forum, so this is pretty much me trying to give some in depth feedback that Bungie can hopefully use to improve the areas of the game that I feel could be better.
