PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

I sold my Vita but I think I may pick this up. If anything, I can use it as a remote play device for another TV in my house.

I bought one in Japan and it amounted to a P4Golden machine because I couldn't bring in my downloaded Vita games via my NA account.

Hope I can access the NA PSN store when this releases.

:P

OHHHHH...

They'd have to be on the white list.

Why would PSP and PSone games need to be on a whitelist? If those don't work, I'd wager that they were blacklisted.

Not all the Vita games are compatible with it I think, is it true?

This is true. Some games use the touch screen, back touch pad, camera and/or gyroscope in ways that a controller can't replicate. I imagine a lot of games will get patched to support controllers, but things like Tearaway will never be playable on a machine like this.

I want this mainly for Disgaea 4 Vita versions and Persona 4 Golden.

As well as few PSP titles via PSN such as Dissidia and Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX.

A shame Disgaea 3 or none of the PSP Yu-Gi-Oh TagForce titles are on the compatibility list.

Still full screen SFA3 sounds nice.

Although I am somewhat concerned about pixelation due to the image being blown up on an HDTV.

Anyone know if this is an issue the Vita TV?

Anyone?

Oh well. Well it was a nice idea.

Maybe Street Fighter Alpha Anthology will get a PS2 Classic release some day.

I really just wanted an excuse to be able to play potentially best version of Alpha 3 on a big screen.

I'll still likely pick up a PSTV for Disgaea and Persona 4 Golden though.

Well you're blowing up a less than SD picture to an HD resolution. It probably won't look great.

Well it's higher than SD (640 × 480) because the Vita screen is 960 x 544.

I played Persona 4 Golden on my 1080p TV and it didn't look that bad, even though it's not a native Vita res game (the 2D character artwork and text is native res though, I think). Certainly looked way better than its PS2 counterpart.

Some 7th gen games on 360 and PS3 probably run at that resolution or lower. If you're gonna be judging on resolution, don't. Worry about texturing. Also, the Wii. /done
Heat is the problem, this thing doesn't have any fans.
The handheld Vita doesn't have fans either...

Amazon sent me another $10 off code. This time for purchasing the PS Vita. Last time it was for the PS4.

First quote wins.

This would be awesome if I didn't have a Roku already. Maybe in a few years when my Roku explodes or is otherwise rendered incapable.

Quoted! Wait is this for buying a PSTV or just $10?

Doesn't this kind of kill the PlayStation Vita? I presume it won't fully "kill it" because there are games that do work better with the touchpad back, but surely it doesn't help its situation?

How? It's a system that plays and sells Vita titles. That should be rather helpful in the long run to the Vita should it move any units.

only has 1gig on board memory. So a card it still needed beyond a small game.

The 1gb should be enough for media apps like Netflix, but thats it.

I have an extra 4gb card from my white Vita bundle that I'll probably use with my PSTV. I don't plan to play any games on it except for RemotePlay, it'll just mostly be a media and streaming device for my bedroom. I might play Killzone: Mercenary on it if they patch in support.

will this support native 1080p streaming? because i remember when it was announced in japan last year it was only 720p, maybe it was upgraded a little bit?

The hardware is identical, no updates.

I'm not sure if they could update it through software to support 1080p. Someone more knowledgeable could probably explain.

Its actually 480x272, so its well below SD.

That's the PSP resolution... Vita is 4x that (960x544).

For comparison, there was at least 1 CoD game that runs at 960x540 on PS3. With many PS3 games running sub-HD, native res Vita games may not look too bad.

(edit) Checking my e-mail, I got a code for $10 off PSTV on Amazon. If anyone wants it, send me a PM. First come, first serve.

Sony never actually commented on that. I guess no members of the press cared to ask.

By making those games available on Vita Sony violated the license for dozens of software from their partners, they're not going to comment on it to the press.

Right.

Though it makes you wonder what motivates a publisher to decline a license extension to a current platform. To me it seems simply to be bigger revenue potential without apparent downsides.

Even then, some of the games that aren't compatible with Vita (or require a PS3 transfer) are from Sony.

I doubt it. Tho it is interesting that this device officially only supports interlaced full HD output, while the SGX543MP4+ should be more than enough to output a true 1080p signal.

I am no expert, but it seems likely that their streaming technology wasn't meant for native 1080p.

Does anybody know what resolution we get via Playstation Now?

While you are correct about the Vita's native resolution, Gravity Rush renders at 408p (if I remember correctly) and is then upscaled, similar to Uncharted: GA (see technical analysis).

You mean for RemotePlay? It is still 960x540 (it doesn't use the full 960x544 on the Vita, you can see tiny black bars on the top and bottom when using RP) upscaled to 720p I believe. For media apps like Netflix it outputs in 1080i.

Pretty sure Vita TV/PS TV Remote Play is native 720p.

I don't even think it's a licensing issue in many cases. After all, why are certain games transferable by connecting the Vita to a a PS3 system?
