PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

I want this mainly for Disgaea 4 Vita versions and Persona 4 Golden.

As well as few PSP titles via PSN such as Dissidia and Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX.

A shame Disgaea 3 or none of the PSP Yu-Gi-Oh TagForce titles are on the compatibility list.

Still full screen SFA3 sounds nice.

Although I am somewhat concerned about pixelation due to the image being blown up on an HDTV.

Anyone know if this is an issue the Vita TV?

Get the bundle people best bang for your buck. Own 2 here of the JP ones anyways. Might consider getting a US one too for shits n giggles.

Smart move rebranding the product name that way folks wont go bitching and moaning why doesnt every Vita game work on it when its called a Vita TV.

I asked the Bro man if we could get local co-op split screen split up between two tvs with this. No reply yet about seeing it in the future but I would love for this to become a thing especially with the co-op push we saw at E3 this year.

But the bundle gives me a PS3 controller =(.

£85 on Amazon too. I think Sony said that is the official price in the UK. Doesn't seem too bad really. Would be awesome if they support it with iPlayer, Netflix etc.

Amazon UK had it available for pre-order at £55 yesterday (briefly). I got my order in before they amended the price to £85.

Hopefully the pre-order price guarantee applies and I've got a real bargain!

Excuse me, guys, but can you please explain to me what is this 30hz/fps stuff is? You mean that the Vita TV only shows half the frames, even of games being played locally?

I sure hope they allow the move controllers, etc to be synced to the VitaTV - I really want to play Sportsfriends in the Living Room without having to move my entire PS4

SGX543MP4+ can definitely handle 1080P (as lesser equipped iPads certainly do) and I believe 1080P MP4s are transcoded down to 960x544 - not sure why this isn't in yet

I believe I've read that it's a hardware limitation, maybe framebuffer idk, that is in the normal Vita and they didn't upgrade for the Vita TV. Don't quote me on that, though.

They should overclock this thing so certain games can run better.

Doesn't it require like, 4 watts to run?

I can't imagine overclocking it will drive that up too much, and there's no battery to worry about.

cant play
- Tearaway
- Uncharted: Golden Abyss
- Gravity Rush

i dont think i want the thing anymore now

It's ludicrous .. I understand there are many factors to this but just let us use the damn Vita as a controller. It has all the proper inputs and features of course ..

Unlikely to happen, would require the PS4 to render 2 different view points at 1080p, the signal it streams out to the Vita/PTV comes at very little cost and no impact to the game. So for a game to try pushing out two full HD screens you would see a big drop in graphics or frame rate.

does anyone know if these are region locked like the ones in Japan?

I'm from AU, wand considering ordering from the states, but obviously don't want to be restricted to a US account

Nobody knows. For there's a chance that even the Japanese ones will lose the "region lock" once it launches elsewhere. Reason the Japanese Vita TV doesn't work anywhere else is that the Stores/Network aren't curated and compatible with it. A firmware update would fix that.

It's only region-locked because there's only a Japanese Store for it atm. Once it's released everywhere, you should be able to use any account.

ohh I see, I'm heading to Japan at the end of the year, should I wait it out and maybe pick one up from there for a bit cheaper?

Yeah good point :(

What kind of hit do you think the visuals would have to take to make it work though?

It's really an easy solution if they could figure it out, but probably can't. Easiest solution of course would be the PS4 controller, but that would require effort. When it comes to the Vita and Sony, effort has been the one thing that I've found to be in short supply. :\

Even then, Tearaway just wouldn't work. It requires a Vita to be played.

all the more reason why, as much as i love tearaway, the backtouch and cameras were terrible ideas for the vita. they could have cut costs quite a bit there

This is an updated and personal list that currently don't work on the Vita TV

- Freedom Wars
- Killzone Mercenary (confirmed to be patched in the future)
- Tearaway
- Uncharted: Golden Abyss
- Gravity Rush
- Tales of Heart R
- Virtue's Last Reward

Guess the only things I'm going to be playing on this is Persona 4 and DanganRonpa. :/

Yeah, it's shit that there's very few interesting vita games that will even work on it, and this is made worse knowing that they changed the name to bring it over here. By removing the Vita name from the thing, do people actually expect more Vita game support from it, cause I kind of don't.

I expect a bit more since I think as it stands now there are probably like 4 NA physical cards that work on the Vita TV.

I feel like it would have been a better idea to post a list of games that do work.

# of games that are PS Vita TV compatible in Japan (not counting other regions) - 481
# of games that are PS Vita TV compatible in other parts of Asia (not counting other regions) - 434
# of Vita games available in the database in Japan - 731
# of Vita games available in other parts of Asia - 774

There are some repeats in these lists due to bundles, alternate language versions, and limited editions.

Freedom Wars btw is going to be PSTV compatible so that can be removed from the "doesn't work" list.

Shinriji, I was wondering what you used for your tests exactly. Were they all physical carts and downloads from Japan on a Japanese Vita TV?

Not in Japan, at least on day 1.
