I'm not a basketball fan by any stretch but I do enjoy a game here and there. People whine and moan about Lebron like he beat their mother's, but for crying out loud do the Spur's play a boring ass game.

I am far from a Spurs fan, but that has to be the most objectively wrong opinion in this thread so far. The Spurs offense in this Finals was the LEAST boring we've seen in decades. Amazing passing, constant motion leading to mismatches, high pick-and-rolls, and an NBA record in shooting percentage. Basically, they went Harlem Globetrotters on the Heat. Entertaining as hell.

You're right about one thing: you aren't a basketball fan.

Lmao Melo will never play second fiddle to LeBron. That chemistry would probably lead to them losing to the Pacers next year, if that happened.

You assume Melo's selfishness outweighs his desire to win. I dont think that's the case, otherwise he'd be staying in NY and continue to be the number one focus of the Knicks. Seeking out other superstars is a tacit admission from him that he cant win as a number one option.

Spurs boring? Are you watching a game from a decade ago? They're in the top of the league in scoring, assists, 3s, and fast break points. You're absolutely wrong.

Cooper was winning DPOY's, Scott stepped up as the third scorer on the Lakers in the last days, Green was a great forward despite his never ending hiccups. I was just plucking random star players to point out just how fucking stacked every great team has been. And none of them were rolling out guys 35+ plucked from the ash-heap and recast in new roles just to maintain a stable lineup except the 2008 Celtics. Most of these older "superteams" (aka championship teams) were stacked with guys in their primes.

The idea that the Heat were some strange superteam construction which has never happened before is ahistorical. The only difference with Miami was that they cleared out cap space and signed free agents instead of pulling off swindles of trades and/or stacking through the draft.

You don't have to tell me how good coop, bscott, and iron man are, I grew up watching them. But if you include them, you have to include guys like mike miller who shot lights out in the finals, and all time 3 pt shooting leader and future hof Ray Allen on your list for the heat. Even guys like Battier and Haslem were solid contributors. Just not this year.

So basically what LeBron had to do to win?

Lebron was in a different situation. He had to leave....there was no way they could build the team he needed playing in Cleveland. Superstars aren't going to go there....even to play with Lebron. If he were in a market like Chicago, LA, New York...he wouldn't have had to leave.

Same thing happened to Kevin Garnett. No matter how great he was...superstars didn't want to play in Minnesota.

I called him out for that, but in his defense the Spurs offense from even three seasons ago wasn't nearly this interesting. If you don't really watch the game and just repeat catch phrases you've heard over the years, that makes sense.

I used to find the Spurs offense predictable and boring. In it's current form, it's the most refreshing thing I've seen in the league in years.

I hear this from casual fans all the time. You have to realize, your average casual NBA fan doesn't watch the same game we do. They want to see stars, dunks, 3's, and not a whole lot of defense. What we see as impressive basketball, they see as boring.

And yet...the Cleveland roster looks a hell of a lot more promising in the near-future than Miami's does. All those #1 picks are adding up. LeBron should know, he was one of them.

Which they wouldn't have had if Lebron stayed there. You don't get #1 picks when you win...Cleveland still would've won....just not championships.

All those #1 picks are adding up...but not #pick talent. Kyrie Irving is the only one that's played anywhere near a lottery pick for them.

Spurs are great to watch. When they're on fire, it's simply amazing. I haven't seen a Finals where a team consistently shoots out the lights.

Melo would literally rather play 2nd fiddle then play for the Knicks

Nobody wants to play as the Knicks.

I like to shit on Bron as well, but this series wasn't completely on him. Team was looking all sorts of flabby and sick out there. Shit was looking like the Cavs for a min.

Spurs ain't boring anymore. One of the best offensive teams we've seen in a long while. The incredible ball movement, the shot making, the unselfishness.

The Heat were the only boring team in this series. Wade fishing for fouls in the lane, Rashard Lewis and Bosh camping outside, worthless old role players like Battier and Birdman. Everything about them this series was ugly and dull.

Edit: San Antonio had the highest collective shooting percentage of any team in finals history since the shot clock era began.

who honestly believes this anymore?

Spurs are the only team in basketball that's actually fun to watch. The ball movement, the chemistry, etc.

Garbage time scrubs had better ball movement than 90% of the teams in the league while playing their starters.

yeah the decision was awful, especially the $ going to charity part, ugh

jGxLADd.gif

Oh please.
He could have made his decision and donated money to a charity without acting like a d-bag on national TV. There is a reason you've never seen that before him and will likely never see it again from anyone else.

say what? im not a huge basketball fan either but did you watch that offense? shit was so fluid those dudes look like they were water elementals

Oh please.

shit happened one time, years ago, and again went to charity. let it go.
it's like people on kobe's shit...why would i care what athletes do off the court? MJ's supposed to be a huge d-bag, does that take away from him being the GOAT now?

That run they had in game 2 of the 2012 WCF is the prettiest basketball I've ever seen.

Warriors, Trail Blazers, Mavericks, Suns, Wizards; all those teams check those boxes.

Jordan would have lost with this Heat team to these Spurs

Jordan wouldn't won without Pippen, and later Rodman and Pippen.

Its like basketball is a team game or something. But the irrational LeBron hate is kind of funny. When they win, its cause of roleplayers hitting 3s. When they lose, its all on LeBron.

He'll never be Jordan. Just live with it.

He's 2 - 5 actually....

And just as I thought, LBJ fans saying the dude needs more help. Lets give him Chris Paul as a point guard, Dwight as the center, Jamal Crawford as the sixth man... Maybe he'll have enough help then?
can't they just give lebron the east coast all star team? dude needs some help.

Mike didnt really give people too much ammunition. What are ya gonna say bad about him? What can you rub in his face? That he couldnt hit a curveball? Lebron has given people PLENTY so he deserves the criticism that goes along with it. You're the one in the minority on that opinion and for good reason. It was an asshole move.

Even right now, tonight, and plenty of times previously, he could just simply say some cliche line like "Sure, I'd love to stay with the Heat" but noooooo he wants to drag out some soap opera bullshit. But hey, maybe he can turn Decision #2 into some more charity money this summer...cause thats what its reallllllly all about with him.

Spurs dominate the series and take it. Wow.

My guess is LeBron leaves Miami. Wade's knees won't hold up much longer but Miami will still pay him superstar money and King James wants rings. Where he goes I haven't a clue.

LeBron James will probably go down as the greatest basketball player of all time statistically when all is said and done. It's crazy that every season he's been in the league that doesn't end in an NBA championship title is considered a disappointment. No other player is held to that standard because that's how good LeBron James is.
People always go on about his stats, but I think that's because people just don't bother to check MJ's stats. Even with that in mind, MJ is still better.

It was already over in my mind when he went to his super team and got beat by Dirk, but this should officially put an end to GOAT talk for LeBron... 2 Finals losses that he absolutely should've won, and needed to win to be considered the greatest ever.

Not only did he lose this one -- he was contained, his team was destroyed, and they were lucky they didn't get swept. This is the same 2-time defending champions, so any talk of there being no help is pretty ridiculous. lol

Bron will likely finish with 30k points 10k boards 10k assists.

There really ain't no worries or fucks to be given.

Everybody who dislikes now, will be telling their grandkids how unselfish he was on the court and they don't know real basketball when XYZ is doing is thing in 2024.

this is more salt than my diet can handle, but if you actually think MJ and the other greats from that era would've come off as saints in this modern world of social media, you're kidding yourself.

Lebron fans trying to say he's the best on today of all days is like Republicans trying to defend going into Iraq in 2003 with the country in turmoil currently.

Just take your L and move on.
