Notorious GAF members who are no longer here? What happened?

That and it was during the "New news. New thread"/No mega threads transition period. Can't remember if it was Costanza or not, but someone had a fit and spammed the front page with every tiny bit of new Rock Band news within a 10 minute space in an attempt to show how dumb they thought the policy was.

Well I guess HaloGAF has been able to manage with that policy a little bit better than they did.

His cynicism would have been fine if he didn't go into every thread about a major AAA-title to spend multiple posts talking about how it was crap and how people who liked it were stupid.

Agreed. He never really explained his exact issues other than accusing various devs of being too casual while - ironically - he had no problems to explain why Obsidian's game portfolio rocks with logic and level-headed behaviour.

Oh, well.

Almost every popular forum has a splinter forum for hate conversations about the main site/particular posters, for the posting of porn and as a temporary refuge for the banned.

I'm aware that splinter forums are a thing that happens, but that is not in itself reasonable justification for their existence. I clearly operate differently than many of these posters on splinter forums do at some fundamental level, as my instinctive response to being banned would be to just do something else with my life.

I always wonder what did "Stat" in. I remember reading that it was found out that two guys were posting under the guise of being a very sexual poster (Stat) but I never saw when it was revealed, or how. Seemed like that one was on the rise to be notorious.

After the rock band purge I remember Costanza and a few others created a GAF-spin off forum which I believe is basically dead at this point. Never really took off. Don't even remember the name.

That would be Wasting Your Life. The reason it wound up not taking off was because there was a power struggle between some of the bigger posters from the Rock Band thread and some other GAF ex-pats that wound up causing a lot of issues and drove away a good chunk of the posters. I think it's still around, but like you said, it may as well be dead.

Sometimes posters that are banned/ridiculed here can be pretty chill posters elsewhere when not exposed to, uh, let's call it "certain stimuli," and folks/old friends may want to continue talking to them

There is a certain poster I am trying to remember the name of.

They have been banned, but prior to being bad they had the tag of "by far the worst poster on GAF who has YET to be banned, emphasis on yet". Basically he would go into every single thread even remotely Nintendo related and create wall of text posts about Nintendo's future.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
Burnt Pork was legendary back in my lurking days, I think it was the Wii U Speculation Threads that finally did him in.

Gary Whitta? Deleted half his posts and stopped posting because he's writing a Star Wars standalone

That's rather depressing. I liked the idea that a Gaffer was writing a Star Wars movie... but does writing a Star Wars movie mean you can never be a Gaffer again?

I suspect the reaction to After Earth probably did more to curb his GAF posting than writing the Star Wars script.

Instead of moderators, do they have reapers who tried to make them come to terms with their death (aka banned status) so that they can move on with life? :p

Anyone remember ******?

He was so bad his name is banned. I don't even remember who he was supposed to be or why he mattered at this point. Was he famous or a game journalist or something?

The site has improved so much since the days of Drinky Crow and his ilk and the not de-nutted mod version of Amir0x.

Institutionalized trolling and deception are never good for a community and I'm personally super pleased with the way that Neogaf has matured into the place we now know and love.

The guy with the fish-like name, yes? Don't know why he was banned. I spoke a little with him once, and he seemed like a perfectly nice guy.

One of the major GAF splinter forums actually has some current GAF mods as users. They aren't just for banned/rejected people.

What happened to drohne? I remember he was a pretty bad anti-Nintendo troll but actually got a lot of support because he made concise arguments and used big confusing language.

So bad even his name is banned? I'm curious.

All I remember at the moment is he and evilore butted heads severely. I may have had some back and forth with him as well at some point (most of the prominent members did I think, it wasn't particularly a special instance), but nothing like what they did and what ended up happening. I would guess all of his posts are deleted too, I think.

Besides him, jarrosh doesn't make many appearances anymore. Dcharlie used to post a lot... Most of the people I liked posting with are just gone now haha

Community and Forum drama instead of talking about Rock Band.

No. Most of the bans were actually in response to posts in the Rock Band thread's IRC.

If I recall it correctly, Sats posted allegded deceptive photos of "herself", a moderator exposed Sats in the act and gave "her" a warning..

Shortly after Sats' provocative posting sort of dwindled.

My suspision is that it was some disturbed guy - or group - who got a kick out of arousing some male members for some forsaken reason.

What happend to Sporks(?) by the way? being a former moderator and all.

Also, the most graceful and quiet exit was probably SegataSanshiro.

Pretty sure that was all him. Am I missing something?

I remember seeing someone in the OMG They Killed Derrick thread say he was a previously banned member resurrected by the flames of hatred.
