Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I'll miss it but the beta isn't far, there's plenty of time to play other games before Destiny (and Dragon Age) dominates my gaming time for the rest of the year. Just enjoy it :)

So there's a beta for XB1 as well, right? Trying to convince a friend to try this game, but all the media has focused on PS4 so much he's ignored it.

I'm real interested to see what the XBone version looks and plays like. I'm going PS4 but for my Xbros I hope it's great!

Whats unbelievable to me is that there is a shit ton more to the game than just Earth. I had a blast just doing all I could there and cant imagine whats in store with the full game. Good lord....

Not sure where to ask this, but...Was there a way to save load outs? I kept missing out on getting the vehicles since I had to switch to my long range weapons once I figured out that I would be playing on the Moon map.

Anyone have any high-def wallpapers without the Alpha watermark on them? The official website has some pics up, but they don't seem to be high res.

I found a nice detail to estimate the size of the world (or free-roam area).
This is the Alpha map of the earth and you can see the dotted lines between some of the places.
I think those lines connect all the places you can visit in freeroam, e.g. Forgotten Shore is the area with the ships, The Divide is the place with this big wall and so on

and now you can compare that to another map, like this one from the venus

So i think free-roam is going to be huge on each planet, you can visit a lot of the places from the strikes and Story missions also in free-roam.

I'm a single player guy but want I'd like to experience this game with other people, mainly gaf and friends.

PSN- lunchtoast.

I didn't have the same experience, apparently. I thought the game was pretty meh with atrocious loading times and swaths of samey, boring terrain. Yes, I understand Alpha and all and to be honest for an alpha, it looked pretty polished in terms of gameplay. What I fear is that not much will change from the polished parts.

The major thing I hated more than anything was the randomly respawning enemies. Any time I see a game use respawning enemies (unless serving to keep an existing puzzle alive) it has been lazy. It is seriously one of my game design pet peeves.

Make it like Diablo where if you explore an area and kill dudes don't expect a bunch more. This was just wave after wave of shooting and it made me absolutely loathe to explore. In addition going from an "instanced" area back out you get ambushed by new mobs every single time.

I fear the constant shooting is there to prevent people from realizing how boring the world is. The mission variety was also terrible. I got a mission to clear out this one place, left got another mission to.....clear out the exact same place...

The reason I am fearful is because I was part of the Star Wars: TOR alpha and the game experience in that alpha did not change one bit when release came. Everything was the same. I have a feeling Destiny is going to be a boring shooter with RPG elements tacked on and without many neat crafted moments. We shall see, but that's the vibe I get playing the alpha.

The one truly great thing I can say about the game is that the UI and menus look fantastic.

You know what would be cool for them to implement is some type of PVP invasion like the Souls games do. I'm not a huge fan of vs multiplayer but I think it would be killer to invade one of the exploration areas and get to hunt down players - with some type of repercussions of course. It would also be fun to hunt down the invader as a pack of 3.

Having more higher level AI's wandering the exploration areas would be nice as well.

Wait wait.. you could get a third weapon as a hunter? Somehow I thought the rocketlauncher was only for the Titan class... I have been missing out. (besides never finding a rocket launcher in the wild)

The alpha was great! I'm going to buy the game 100%! Only thing that kind of bummed me off was the no split screen...

Loved playing Borderlands 2 with my gf and would've liked playing Destiny with her but heck I guess I have to buy a PSTV and make her play on the other television... (read that like: me playing on the other television) ;)

Seems like you just don't understand that it's not a singleplayer game at all. It can feel like one if you are flying solo, but you will have other people fighting in the areas you just cleared. And yeah, the environments are going to feel "Samey" because there was only one explore area for alpha.

If you kill all the bad guys and there is no respawning, what are the rest of us suppose to shoot when we get to the area? You have to remember this is a multiplayer world.

I haz no friends to play with, can i still have fun playing it alone? also can i team up with randoms?
I have missed on so many awesome games because of the online co-op focus on them

The respawning enemies could be hidden a little better. Crawling out of vents or drop ship pods etc. Right now it's kind of jarring that they just pop out behind something you just walked around. Other then that though I disagree with everything you said. It's kind of an MMO thing. You would never expect to clear a zone of every creature in wow. It just doesn't work that way. The problem is more then likely worse because we only had one area to play in.

There are several places where they do come in on drop ships.

I'm sure/hope the loading times improve
The constant drop ships and respawns were annoying and felt unneeded and I'm worried not much will change now that you've mentioned it. If you are playing single player/private the respawn should be less

I had so much fun disintegrating people with my lightning pulse rifle (special weapon) in pvp. The bad boy had 106 attack power and it would kill in one shot if close enough and a perfect hit.

So pleasing to see people fade away in a blueish Light and turning into dust.

Yes, you can team up with randoms and invité them to your striketeam.
If you dont do so, they will vanish past certain sectors.
Also a lot of gaffers are dropping their psn name.
Mine is Icecubez08

Please, please, please, pretty please, Bungie. Push for 60fps. I guarantee it will skyrocket your game into megahit status in an instant.

Modbot made a mistake! IS HE HUMAN?

EDIT: Oh yeah, Destiny. But seriously, I really loved the tone of the game, really my type of sci-fi game, in the Tower it felt very similar to what I felt in the Citadel in ME2, which I loved. Can't wait for the complete game, since I can't preorder the game.

I highly doubt Old Russia is going to be the only playable "Earth" space at launch either. I'm very interested to see how big Destiny really is

Oh that reminds me, one thing that i thought was strange was that when you invite someone who is in the exact same area as you are to your fire team they for some reason have to go through the loading screen again just to enter your team.

Should be easier and more streamlined bungie.

Thats good to hear, yeah am planning to visit the OT and add everyone there if ever decided to get this game waiting for the beta for now.

Oh and FR sent :)

I don't think that would work. You'd need to have two PS4's.

I'm real interested to see what the XBone version looks and plays like. I'm going PS4 but for my Xbros I hope it's great!

Do we know if all the versions will be able to play together...? well probably not PSN with XLive but what about PS3 with PS4 and 360 with X1...?

Imagine if they add new planets using dlc.

Isn't that the plan...? they said they want to support and add to this game for the next 10 years...

Just pre-ordered on Amazon for beta code (got it in like 2 seconds via email) and then cancelled. Too bad you can't pre-order digitally! Can't wait to see what updates the beta has! So excited for this game.

Please tell me the beta code I got for preordering the white PS4 bundle can be used on a PS3. Otherwise, that's cruel of them.
