iOS Gaming June 2014: A Comfy Beach of Sunshine and Screen Glare!

Any good? YouTube developer video says ipad version looks the best. Have to decide between $10 ipad only vs $25 cross platform steam pc/mac.

I think you're comparing the price for half the game to that of the whole.

The second part is going to be IAP. Really weird that they would confuse people like that.

iPad version will still work out cheaper of course.

On top of that, Pure Pinball: Clicky!
(Although, as a heads up, you may want to wait until tomorrow/Saturday before downloading this as it's going to be free this weekend).

This is free now, so you may want to grab it while you have the chance.

I've been away from iOS gaming for a while now, I've an iPod touch 4 still on iOS 5.something

I'm planning on getting League of Evil sequels, Tilt to Live 2, Trials Frontier, Rayman Fiesta Run and some others.

Any suggetion?(especially 2013-4 games) I'm not a fan of rpgs, and I'd take 2d platformers only if very very good. 3D ones are welcome as long as they're good

Is there a Tempest clone or something? Is the Arkham clone any good?(I'd go for "no" since it's Gameloft but yout never know)

Thanks :P

edit: just realized there are iOS version of SMeatB and Joe Danger as well. Need to take a look at these

I've got to stop playing Tiny Dice Dungeon for my health. Rolling a 1 is way too infuriating for me.

I go between this and Jupiter Jump now. My blood pressure is through the roof.

Sitting pretty at #20 on the Jupiter Jump leaderboard with a score of 2426 :)

Any droid users?

I can't find FF Tactics on Google Play no matter how much I search for it.

Did they take it off the store?

Edit: Darn, is it Japan only for Droid? :(

Accidentally played VVVVVV last night for ages, surprisingly great little game. I was expecting the difficulty level to be a lot more brutal but this is challenging without being too much of a dick about it.. Pretty much perfect.

Yeah, stay in blissful ignorance for now. Hope to see you back here when you finally reach the Veni, Vidi, Vici level :D

Ha! Yeah I think I spoke too soon. When I posted I was just one room away from Not As I Do which was a right tricky bugger. Then I went and found Veni Vedi Vici, spent ten mins on it and said NOPE, will come back to it later. Only have one more dude to find though.

A sale two weeks after release?? Ugh, so iOS. It's fun, but I could have waited. Should've learned that lesson by now I suppose.
Probably sales-related. I wonder if the devs regret going premium now.

Bought the game when it released, don't regret it at all. Was well worth the $3, a no-brainer at $1 IMO

Looks like they lost a lot of featuring in the last App Store refresh this week and were losing rankings pretty fast which means much less visibility. A sale can help turn that around and could be the difference between them maintaining enough momentum for longer term success or another great premium game fading into obscurity after leaving the Apple spotlight, so I can't blame them for such a decision.

When did you run into a paywall?

I just got the healer and am having good fun. Not excited about hitting said paywall, though.

To be clear-I think he means a "paywall" in as far as doing things like crafting and getting extra coins. Those are visible from the beginning, but you don't need them. You can unlock crafting goods through normal play in the game, and gold coins every day-My guys are level 37 and I've never spent a cent. There are no timers that prevent you from playing at all.

Finished up VVVVVV last night, what an excellent game! Anyone scared by its reputation, don't be. It's hard but very accessible with it and is full of charm, easily one of the better iOS platformers. I was also pleasantly surprised to see there are a whole slew of user made levels with it too, I'm glad there is still more stuff to play.

A little bit after I got the healer I started to feel the weight of the monetization... all the different resources and things. I'll probably pick it up again at some point.

has anyone downloaded the golf game of ea?

Im surprised that at the moment, the game doesn't feel like a IAP fest like always do to enjoy the game.

you had 5 balls to play, and you lost one if you fail the challenge, so far is addictive

Up for a bit of Pocket Harvest, I feel paid for management games are a rare breed on iOS, which is a shame as the monetisation ruins most of them.

Last Kairosoft effort I played was Pocket Dungeon, which I found too easy. Hoping this has more of a replay challenge. So far, my bench mark titles are Pocket Academy and Hot Springs Story, not found titles since that have manged to challenge them.

Would LOVE to see them make a sprawling epic sim, but unlikely to happen.

Its a very wellmade game, you arent force into buying tokens or powerups cause you can achieve most of the tasks on your own. Its a good mixup for a golf-game because you can just play level by level. Its free and controls well if you ask me.

I would recommend it

Played Broken Age last night on iPad Air.
It looks gorgeous. Great port.
Touch controls are very intuitive and the highlight option replaced the mouse pointer very effectively, IMHO.
Worth 10 bucks folks, IMHO.
It's a great game very fit for an iPad.

I played a bit of Broken Age too, the only slight problem I noticed is that the dialogue options are too close together on a mini. Visuals are great.

There are a few reviews saying it crashes on the title screen, if anyone has problems. But fine for me.

Really addicted to Asphalt 8, but I hit a wall. I can't get first place anymore UNLESS I buy upgrades with real money of course!

Sigh, F2P model strikes again.

Amazing ios racing game though.

I'm also loving Folt, and having seen this post I cringed when I just arrived at this level. Turned out that I managed to pass it on my first go, without using any bombs or spending a penny.

So I think perhaps you're being a tad hard on it.
This is the tip of the iceberg. There's so much luck involved in the colour draw order that it really is more about dice rolls than anything. Micro strategies are wrecked by the level design and incredibly few chances to control the map.

I've played to later in the game and it still mostly feels like a broken system intended to prey on compulsive players.

The whole Halfbrick Studios catalogue is available for free!

It's the classic Fruit Ninja and its sequel, as well as the geniusly simple Monster Dash and Age of Zombies from the Barry universe. Their newest games Fish out of Water and Collosatron are 0 bucks as well.

Catch them all!

Horrible pacing. I am addicted to shmups but this doesnt do it. It literally is just grinding your way to a decent speed shooter.

Personally, I love the sense of progression. That said, I bought the star doubler and remove ads IAPs, so I consider this a $4 premium game. The 5000 stars iap helps a lot if you don't want to bother with the slow start.

Personally, I feel the upgrade timers upsets the pacing. I mean, this is an arcadey, twitch-style game. You want to fight, die, upgrade, and jump right back in to the gameplay, not wait for your upgrades to be done. Now granted you can play while the upgrade timers are counting down, but I feel it messes up the sense of progress

But other than that, it's a great game. The controls, the visuals, the gameplay, all top notch. One of the best shmups I've played on IOS. I just wish the dev would let us disable the upgrade timers

Does anyone know if their is a way to force Angry Birds Epic to sync your progress to your Rovio account? I am trying to play it between two devices but the 2nd device is always like 5 missions behind which make the entire feature a little pointless.

You can skip timers with the same currency (only one currency in the game), so I just consider the skip timer as part of the upgrade cost. I never wait.

Also, you can unlock hard and insanity by completing the 4 challenges. One run on the first stage on hard will net you 700-800 stars if you have the star doubler.

aaaaaaaaaand I'm back, phew E3 week was busy for myself(!).

I've been lurking in other GAF threads this past week but didn't have my home PC to do stuffs with until now.

I think I finally fixed the broken images in the OP, Minus is acting out on one of their image servers it seems so I re-hosted a bunch of images on another.

VVVVVV added to the OP, is Broken Age a solid port? I backed the Kickstarter on that one and enjoyed the PC version thus far. Angry Birdsssssssss Epic? (I dislike anything Birds these days, burned out on the original AB)

I'm really enjoying King of the Course, the new EA golf game (I no rite?), it's F2P but doesn't beat you over the head with it.

Just finished VVVVVV. Such an amazing little game. The controls are pretty much perfect and, despite the precision required, I didn't really feel like I was ever disadvantaged by using a touch screen rather than controller. Great stuff.
