There has never been nor will there every be a reason to pre-order a video game.

sure... that said... if i had had total faith that i was going to buy this when they were kickstarting it i could have paid less that i'm going to ultimately pay (it's still not out, but at this point i'm near-100% certain i'm buying it (x2) based on early comments on the game here).

if i could get some sort of package that got me two copies for cheaper if i bought-in now, i might bite at this point.

Their release of this game is terrible. I'm interested in the idea of this game, but I don't trust the developers to make a good game enough to spend $40 without a thorough demo, and all the preview material I've read has been pure fluff. Throwing the release right after the steam summer sale just makes the purchase an even worse value by comparison.

Maybe some of the folks who've spent more time with the Beta can answer you better but based on my playtime this week with the early access client it feels like more than a $40 game.

So far the game looks nice, runs very well and has a really great OST. The skills and abilities I've tried out work like they should and also sound and feel meaty. I've also become a fan of the way you can converse between your two party members and sort of direct their relationship to one another, be it friend, lover or just tolerating one another.

There's lots more that I need to discover and try out but so far I am impressed with what I have played.

I have no idea what you are even talking about.

Pure fluff? The many long gameplay videos and let's plays which are available? And how are they throwing the release right after the summer sale? And how does that make it a worse value.

In a just universe, this would be a $60 game and the 10 hour AAA cinematic experiences would be $40.

Spent some time wandering around the starting city tonight and conversing with the locals. There are some fairly great personalities on display and some catchy wit also. (I clicked on a tombstone and it said "I'm Catherine and I'm great" which caused me to chuckle)

I also used a shovel to dig at a spot of freshly overturned earth nearby and fell into a dungeon like area underground. That was unexpectedly cool.

Like the last Larian game that I played, so far Original Sin has depth, charm and some kooky characters. I don't really see why this wouldn't appeal to many, many people.

That post is 90% crazy but dropping right after the Steam sale may not be a great idea. I recommend delaying until day/night cycles are implemented. Should only take a few days, right? Easy!

I'm guessing they added the 10 days before they knew of the Steam sale. This game may take some time to get its legs, but it will hold a special place for people who pine for the days of Ultima, BG, IWD and even us old Gold Box veterans.

Oh most definitely.
I was thinking something along the lines of an attendee leaving a computer on a foldout table somewhere.
LOL I went into an AT&T store once and went around to all the phones and tablets and pointed the Web browsers at my book on Amazon. #Shameless

So hyped for this game.

Wouldnt it be better to delay it 2 to 5 days further?
I dont think it is good to release on the last day of Summer Sale. Except if they have a special Promotion from Steam at that time. I think most of the Steam users would be thoroughly burned out from Steam at that time (checking steam every day/every 8 hours, buying games you would have thought never buying, just because you need the next card from the every-10-dollars drop. etc. etc.)

Oh and also: will the game be prcier when it releases? Is the Early Access prive below the release price?

Rat: Has anyone ever told you you're as pretty as a Star Stone?

What does this rat want? he can't even see past my ankles. I'm guessing this is the last boss of the game.

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Sandbox RPG. Co-op friendly. [port beg = good taste]

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Filled with sinister 'Think To Win' gameplay mechanics

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Offering the freedom to party-wipe however you see fit

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] An RPG that doesn't hold your hand

And the ultimate in cheap reductionist click-bait titles, whether it's strictly accurate or not,
Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Harder than Dark Souls

The first one. Just needs two more buzzwords.

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Sandbox RPG. Co-op friendly. [port beg = good taste] [1080p 60FPS]

Oh rock of ages, do not crumble, love is breathing still. Oh lady moon shine down, a little people magic if you will.

I really like the second one. And the port beg allowance.
Belgium's most exciting piece of entertainment since Tintin is probably a bit too long, isn't it?

I'm excited! I'll probably even buy the game *shivers* at retail. I've found one store thus far, and I literally mean just one, where I can pre-order the game. (The Netherlands/Belgium) I hope i've missed some shops, since this is a bit concering. Not that retail is a popular place to get PC games anymore, but still.

Is this that one store, or did I just found you another? :)

Oh yes. I bought 2 copies awhile back and have been waiting for this to get out of early access. Almost here. My backlog is getting huge between all these awesome PC games and the wiiU.

Larian removed Raistlin. Damn it.

In other news, of the people on my Steam friends list that own D:OS, only three people have played for an hour or more.

This RPS interview was from back in March but reading it made me hope this project is a big success for these guys. Sounds like its been a rough couple of years for Larian.

I loved Dragon Commander even though I'm not much of an RTS guy but Original Sin seems to be right in my wheelhouse. Hopefully Original Sin reviews well and gains some transaction because I feel like its flying under the radar a bit.

I'm holding off. This is one game I don't want to be bored of when it comes out.
And at this point it's too close to release to really dive in when all progress will be scrapped anyway. I'll just wait for final now.

Browsing GAF and I keep seeing 'Destiny' out of the corner of my eye and getting excited that people are talking about this game instead. Grr.

I really don't want to play games I'm looking forward to this much in an unfinished state. Same for Pillars of Eternity.

If I was less interested in the game I might play the EA more :p

I could give 2 shits about the Steam Sale knowing Divinity: OS is around the corner! This is the dam game I've been waiting for FOREVER!

2014 and 2015 are bringing back cRPGs!

  • Divinity: OS!
  • Wasteland 2!
  • Pillars of Eternity!
  • Torment: Tides of Numenara!
  • Even More!
These 4 games are truly AAA titles. Not because of their budget, but because they are cRPGs. A completely dead genre till now. The amount of depth and time put into these games surpass the so-called games we play today. Quality, love, hard work, passion, and ultimately respect for the gamer is what will make these games absolutely amazing.

I have tempted myself into buying into the early access for Divinity:OS. But every update I read, I know the game is just getting so much better. I really can't wait to play the final product on release date. I have followed every kickstarter update this game has gone through, watched every twitch stream Larian has shown, read the official Larian forums about people's thoughts and on Steam.

This game oozes creativity and fun. It's just a dam good RPG. Grab a friend and go ROLEPLAY! Forget the Steam Sale. You will regret all the games you buy. Resist the temptation. Give Larian the $ they deserve for this amazing game. This is going to sell a lot. It's going to be a highly respected game on Gaf. People are gunna love this game. There will be bugs here and there, but every day Larian are squashing them.

One thing Larian does better THAN ANYONE ELSE, oh and yes even better than your beloved CD Projekt Red...is communication. They ACTIVELY read the forums all over the web. They respond, THEY ACT. They deliver. They don't hide behind their faults, they fix them. They take action.

They are amazing developers.

This

Game! (when it comes out June 30th :) )

I haven't even played the game yet, and I know for a fact that this game was made for me. Everything I want in a RPG is in this game. Good creative stories, meaningful choices, strategic/tactical co-op combat, fantasy, etc. It has got it all.

And the best is still coming soon with Steam Workshop Mod Support! I mean dam. How awesome will it be to create entire new stories, weapons, skills, worlds, etc! Crazy!!!

That would be fine by me. They could delay it a month or two.

It needs just a little more work.

Larian has said they will heavily support this game after release. You can bet they will actively fix bugs and continually implement changes. This game is their baby.

Fun Fact: Did you know you can mod in 4 player co-op?

They changed the name to Glass Cannon I believe.

That they did, thanks for the heads up. Looking over the changes, I still think it is a bit overpowered. lol.

I've played 23 hours D:

At this point, I figure I should capture some footage for some gifs. I'm really busy for the next week unfortunately, so I'll see how far I get.

Hi guys, I am a huge crpg fan. I've played (and love) many of them, from Fallout 1 to Baldur's Gate 2. I bought this game last week due to the posts of Sinatar and Durante. Here are my impressions:

Game is fucking awesome buy it if you have good taste in rpgs.

Just tried the tactical camera mode, it's going to be super useful in chaotic battles. Gives every enemy a red lineout and every friendly a blue one, as well as putting the camera in a way you see clearly everyone's position without having to rotate.

I like that a "tactical camera mode" is something Larian just slips into a patch at some point, while Bioware has advertised it in DA3 for years.

You should really put some links to the music samples in the OT as well.

Also maybe quotes from people who played the EA version. Like this:
