Xenoblade X (Cross) releasing in 2015 (Xenoblade Chronicles X in the US)

I'm expecting Xenoblade X to be released February or March 2015. I'm really hoping 1Q or 2Q of 2015 because this is my most anticipated title this year, and while I understand it I'm still bummed at the delay.

In Takahashi-san I trust.

Is it 2015 for Japan too?

I hope the localized release isn't too far off from the initial release.

yeah same for JP

if NoA Treehouse already has it in house I am guessing they are already translating

NOE does not seem to be the front runner anymore since NOA has been pushing this since WiiU launch

Also the crashed capsule city being from the US the accents from the last game would not carry over well. I would welcome them tho.

I hope they give it a decent marketting push

So I finally unwrapped my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles (preordered it but never got time to play it). Any non-spoilery tips you guys can give me? I'm going to start my blind play through (I avoided all videos apart from trailers and the menu screen cinematic) later today.

How long is the game on average?

Be sure to try multiple party configurations, and don't worry too much about sidequests if you're not enjoying them. Also, buying equipment is mostly unnecessary.

Don't go out of your way to complete every single quest, but accept all of the ones you find anyway since they usually get completed automatically as you play.

Don't be afraid to try experimenting with different party members. You don't have to use Shulk all the time and quite a few later characters are a lot of fun to control.

As for length, it's hard for me to be exact since I tried to do as much as possible when I played. I'd guess an average run might be around 60 hours, and that's without doing too much outside of the main story.

I'd still say June 2015 possibly even later.

Just because Nintendo and their weird release schedules and spacing out games. And if you notice during the digital event, they show their 2014 WiiU games in a reversed order from closeness to launch. Smash4WiiU Holiday, Captain Toad likely earlier, then Bayo October then Hyrule September.

Now this is pretty stupid and baseless speculation but following that, Splatoon would be releasing 1st, followed by Mario Maker, then Xenoblade, then Zelda then Yoshi. Splatoon to me is something that seems most like a spring/summer title with all the colors and whole summer paintball thing and Zelda seems like it's pretty far off.

I mean especially considering localization, I'd say it would take at least 3 months. There seems to be a LOT of text to go through.

Reyn: You can't have a rainbow without Reyn, baby!
Melia: Dunban, I think you need to have a talk with Reyn.
Dunban: No. Let's pretend it didn't happen.

Oh this makes me regret not playing in English.

Arggg, the decisions...

EDIT: For the timings - holidays are generally reserved for their flaghsips/co-operative/multiplayer/party games, so I'd expect Yoshi in Summer and Zelda in Winter. Xenoblade seems to me like it would sit in the 'niche' slot, around when W101 and Bayonetta 2 release, which is September/October.

In the beginning, try to learn and get a grip on the basics of battle. Positioning, auto-attack range, using arts, cooldown, characters and specialties, etc. This will help you to better plan out your moves and strategies moving forward.

Explore the map and take your time. Almost every part of the map your character can see are accessible. Just be careful of the enemies you will see. Check their levels and as much as possible don't fight enemies with big level gaps.

Take time to also do some side quests and meet important NPCs on the 1st village (Colony 9). Side quests are one of the ways where you can gain money, experience, and/or equipment. You need not to do them all, but you can try some and use it as basic training.

Don't be afraid if you die in the game. You will just end up in the last main landmark you passed through in the map, with loot, equipment, and money intact before your last death. Also, you can save at almost any time and any part of the game, so save as much as possible.

The game without doing any side quests can take probably 50-80hours, depending on how easily you can past through bosses and areas. Doing many things like side quests, completing maps, fighting unique monsters, and building relationships with the community and your party members can take you more than 100 hours on a single playthrough.

Good job, now you've got me wanting to go back and try Xenoblade again. I got about 2 hours in and stopped because of reasons, but the temptation is too strong now. Maybe I should play Disaster: DoC first, though?

Can't believe people still say this.

EDIT: Just re-read some of the first few pages and am laughing at the 'downgrade' comments.

Just picked up a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles from a local gamestop. Now waiting for my pro controller to arrive, using the nunchucks wiimote plus setup to move the camera is a pain.

Played about 80-90% of the game at a friend's place and can't wait to tackle it full on now.

I also hope Xenoblade Chronicles X's music is as good as its predecessor.

moving the camera with the wiimote and nunchuck is like second nature to me, I couldnt imagine giving up moving while using artes

I don't think I was around when that trailer first popped up.

Reading through some stuff someone mentioned something that I hope we get a lot of in X.

And that's the awesome cutscenes. Xenoblade had some of the most badass cutscenes I've seen in a RPG.

Mostly any scene having to do with Shulk or Dunban getting angry and wrecking someone.

Thinking back on that story trailer that was released recently, I don't think we'll have to worry about the game being short on those kinds of scenes.
You hit the nail on the head, everytime dunban or shulk get into a fight scene, or the entire party is getting team points in with the epic music blasting, it was such a hell yeah moment.

Maybe I should play Disaster: DoC first, though? .

Do it. That game is heavily underrated. It's far from perfect, but it was a lot of fun when I played it a few years back. D:DoC is very unique, the light gun action is really cool and it has some interesting uses of the Wii Remote.

Btw: I don't understand the hate for the character models. It seems to me as some people let their personal taste influence them way too much. If the designs don't suit you it doesn't mean they are PS2 style graphics. Not all characters have to be white bold dudes or any other cliché.

but can we get that level of awesome cut scene like with xenoblade when the main character in this is silent?

hope so.

If you like the work of Hiroyuki Sawano and especially The Kill la Kill Ost (I Feel Xenoblade X vibe especially in this ost) you're in for a treat.

If anything; it means the rest of the party get to do awesome things more often, whereas the spotlight definitely didn't get shared in Xenoblade.

Some of my favorite cut-scenes -- all spoilers:

Setting out for Revenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRLnrJ4f-UU

Dunban saying he'll be right behind them as soon as his wound heals. Freaking epic.

Prison Island Cutscene - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHvB46EvvAo&index=179&list=PLpVpBRIlzWuBqK0aHV1wbKGZSs4D1rTdd

The Hope of the High Entia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJWnpVCKr3k&index=128&list=PLpVpBRIlzWuC6e1Gk8dmexn4zFk1UiWzi

Also, damn these 2 commercials for spoiling some huge things in the game:

Disaster has its moments and it's enjoyable but it's not something worth playing more than once. It's like playing through a summer action movie.

Okay, and Dolphin crashes when I try to reload my save state. And of course I did not save the normal way cause I have literally never had problems with save states in emulators.

Fuck this, I'll play the MGS series now and start a new XB playthrough in July when I actually have vacation.

Not sure if old, but I finally have time to watch the Tree house footage, I search the thread and see few people talking about affinity system.

During battles, Elma will ask player to use Melee/Shooting/Buff arts(vice versa), and those arts will starts to shine. If you use those arts in time, a pink heart will pop out from Elma's head. I think this basically confirms affinity system to return.

You can see hearts during battles around 20:35, 26:20, 28:40, 31:00, 35:05, 35:20.

And it seems like you don't need to break enemy before toppling it?! That's a big change.

Well we know the localization process has started

Believe it was the 2nd stream they were talking about keeping a glossary of what they are calling the animals/enemies in the game

I would say that XX's scale is batshit fucking insane, but that'd honestly be doing it a disservice. We're looking at a game so big, it makes Xenoblade look like a piddly, little sandbox in comparison. And that's saying a lot.

Takahashi did act like Xenoblade was 5% of a game world he would like to make in a game. I can't wait to see how big the game world actually is.

It's a bit of a misquote, the 5% is more about potential (overall game) than size.

Anyway, lol, didn't even notice the players in the second pic. ^^

It's huge.

Tetsuya Takahashi said:
But in terms of my own personal goal-my vision of an ideal game-I'd honestly have to say that it's barely 5% of the way there. My goal is to re-create the world itself. I think it's valuable to always develop projects with such lofty goals in mind.

I think he's referring to scope here (the 5% thing). And it's clearly not idle boast.

Lol @ "re-create the world itself." Takahashi's ambition knows no bounds!

We've seen mechs sort of glide, right? I'd love to be able to fly through this world.
Yeah, they have showed parts where the player in the mech was flying around WAY high up, not to mention that gif of the player hopping in the mech and flying off from the first trailer. One of the things I'm most excited for in this game.

Not to mention he wants it to be a seamless open world experience.
The best part is, that with mechs, you can go anywhere period.
You could spend weeks just flying around and seeing the sites.
We'll need an entire thread dedicated to the beautiful landscape pictures you can take from the photo mode

They full on fly. No gliding needed. They also have vehicle modes.

Where can I get that 2nd image without Player scribbled on it?

I have to wonder if we can explore stuff underwater in the mech's. In more recent RPG's I don't see much to do with delving under the sea as much.

Those trees is Xenblade must be huge. :P

That's some incredible scale! I recall some people were convinced - prior to the initial 'X' reveal - that Wii U wouldn't be able to handle large detailed open-world games due to RAM limitations. It could well be home to the game with the largest scale out there.

I can't wait to fly up to, and explore those towering mountain/rock regions in my Mech. I'd imagine you'd run out of doll fuel before you even reach halfway, and will have to acquire a number of upgrades and/or new Mechs before you can reach the top. I'm sure it'd be well worth it! That'll probably be my personal goal from the very start, if it's possible. :D

To be fair, that's only one end of the Bionis' leg in Xenoblade.

This might give a slightly more accurate idea of Xenoblade's scale.

That being said, X still looks a lot larger than Xenoblade. Neo Los Angeles easily dwarfs any of Xenoblade's towns.

I wondered that as well. What if our group comes upon a town of friendly natives and hears them tell of a giant capsule that fell out of the sky and landed in the sea? I don't know how many of these city-ships would have crash landed on the same planet, but having to explore underwater to recover survivors, technology, etc. would make for some very atmospheric gameplay. There are just so many possibilities in this scenario. I have to say this is the best concept for an open-world game that I've ever seen.

Also, I know everyone is split on the new character designs, but I haven't heard anyone talk about the demi-human characters that were in the trailer. I assume these are the planet's native people and I imagine there will be some sort of conflict between the humans and the natives as the game progresses. Personally, I love their designs. The cat-like female
(hope she's playable)
that was attempting to break up the fight with the beast-man and demon-like male piloting the mech in the trailer all looked really interesting, I thought. And this coming from someone who typically hates these type of anthropomorphic designs.

Maybe the demons and beast men are the two races that destroyed earth, and Nopon are the race native to Mira.

I sure hope so. Even if it takes 300 game hours to finish the game in a single playthrough I will really be super duper fine with it!

Yeah... Nah. I'd never have the time to finish a game like that.

300 hours to 100%, sure. If the world is actually as big and open as it's hyped up to be, I can see it taking hundreds of hours to do absolutely everything. I'm going to remain slightly skeptical about the actual openness and scale for now though.

Started up my second Xenoblade playthrough and I'm amazed at how many sidequests there are in the first town alone (I skipped them all first time through).

So the quests you get from nameless NPCs are just material or kill quests while the ones you get from named NPCs are a little more in-depth.

I just picked up a perfect condition copy for ~38 USD. I am taking the earlier advice to drop everything and play through the game! Playing on the Wii U, it looks surprisingly good.
