Are you even having fun with gaming?

Yes. I haven't ever had a console experience as fun as the Wii U, period. Tons of classic/GOAT local multiplayer games released right when my daughters are old enough to want to play them with us. Plus the 7th-8th gen transition is giving me time to clear out my backlog on my other consoles.

Destiny made me feel something that I haven't felt in quite some time. Sure, it's beautiful, but that game is just an experience. Tons of fun to be had with friends.

Mario Kart is also gorgeous but the main reason I play it: it's fun.

Towerfall is sooooo much fun with a couple buddies too.

Man, sure there are plenty of games trying to be something special and "different" and they completely miss the fun factor, but there are also a ton of games that are focused on being fun too.

Man do I ever disagree with this statement. I play games to relax but most importantly have fun. Enjoy my gaming hobby. If a game isn't fun I stop playing it, period. Fun is engaging, but engaging is not always fun. There is a difference.

Different strokes for different folks and all that but yeah I'm" down with this, well said.

Wait...
So I can't be impressed at the technical prowess set before me
AND (as used as an example in the OP)
have fun blasting down a Norwegian road glazed over with a thin layer of ice in a Pagani Huayra...
at the same time?

Okay.

If you're not having fun, maybe you need to take a break or look to other platforms. The fun is there.
Personally, gaming has been great to me and that enthusiasm has yet to wane at all.

Not really

At least not since 343 destroyed my favorite game series in one fell swoop a few years ago. Yes, my only love in gaming is Halo. Everything else is just a nice side endeavor for when I need a break.

I will graciously accept Halo MCC as an apology though. God that game cannot come fast enough.

I was at a side chicks house last weekend and invited my boy over to cotch.

OP is too cool B) I feel intimidated. Yeah, still don't have a PS4 because nothing has been grabbing me, but I just started playing League of Legends and it's fun as hell... Sometime you gotta look somewhere else.

Sometimes, I've become increasingly hard to please with video games unfortunately. If and when I find something that I'm really into I'm hooked though.

Nothing wrong at all with knowing what you look for in video games but I think the bolded is equally important. Often times we can forget and focus on the things we don't like, especially playing/discussing/hearing about games that don't excite us; you may not get that positive experience with games all the time but that doesn't devalue those positive experiences nonetheless.

Yeah if a game is not fun I am not playing it anymore. I'll give any game an hour and if the fun doesn't kick in it gets deleted.

I don't get people who say some pretentious art game "isn't supposed to be fun." Life sucks enough that I don't need to virtually simulate non-fun.

Sounds like the OP should just have his fun following the industry but stop the pretense of actually playing the games.

Yeah I think it is like 1 out 4 games that hook me but when it does it is like a sweet drug in my veins.

Tons of fun, all the time. I hope you enjoy your new Wii U, FreeMufasa. Lots of fun games on there.

Im not getting it now. Gonna wait till Bayonetta 2 releaseded.

I feel ive came back to how i approached games when i was a kid. Lost my shit when the GS twilight princess reviewed dropped and it made me think about shit I would have otherwise never would (midi music for example). Stopped reading reviews after that.

Here's a tip for u manz. You dont need to play EVERY game that looks even remotely interesting. When I clocked I wasnt having fun, I was gettin games and then stopping after like 1 hour cos ur boy Free.dotM wasnt enjoying it. Now at most I buy 1-2 games a year. All I'm saying is, if you're playing a game and your initial criticsms is like FPS, screen tearing, IQ, scope, etc and not if you're enjoying the poduct than you will be never enjoyed gaming.

Not really. Halo is dead, PS4 is bereft of games I want to play, Mario Kart has worn thin. Tried playing CS for the first time in awhile and got absolutely annihilated, so fuck that. Tried playing Path of Exile, couldn't get it to it. Tried playing The Witcher, game won't let me advance past the menu. I hate video games.

I have fun playing games for sure.

Some games feel like "going through the motions" rather than playing and having fun or finding things in them to enjoy. Some recent examples of this for me were Killzone Shadow fall and Watchdogs.

Recent games I've had real fun playing are Journey, Alan Wake, Wolfenstein, RE4 HD, Mario Kart 8.

OP, everyone enjoys different aspects of anything. It's up to you to begin to understand that.

What's a side chick? How to cotch?
"I was at a side chicks house last weekend and invited my boy over to cotch."

This is a stealth brag thread. OP has 2 women and GAF has none.

In all seriousness, I am not having fun gaming due to bills/job search stress. Everytime I turn the PS3 on I feel guilty that I should be doing something productive.

I also think I am itching to get back into a multiplayer game but am tired of military shooters. Maybe I'll get BF4 when the GOTY edition comes out but I'm really looking forward to Destiny and may not settle for another military shooter. Hopefully I have a job by the time Destiny drops.

Recently yes. Ever since I've started college and working to pay gas/loans, I've had a lot less times for games. So I've finally learned how to do something I've never done before and drop games I don't like. So if I'm playing a 50 hour RPG and after 10 hours I'm getting really bored, I just cut my losses and get out.

Breath of Fire 3 and Xenosaga Ep 1 are good examples of games that probably get better, but I don't feel like taking a chance to find out.

Yes, but I'm becoming increasingly jaded by the state of the industry at the moment and I'm finding that I'm playing more and more retro stuff over new releases. I find it really hard to get excited over new games anymore, and the lack of quirky mid budget titles these days is not helping.

Gameplay matters to me more than anything else, although the graphical package also has to appeal. I don't have incredibly high standards for graphics though..just something that looks aesthetically pleasing. Don't mind frames per second either, as long as it doesn't detract from the game.

Mario Kart 8 pushes all the right buttons.

Maybe you should try a different genre. Seems like you're getting bored of western games so try going for some really fun games from Japan. I assume you have a PS3 so get some really fun character action games like the DMC collection, Bayo, Metal Gear Rising, etc

Also, if you have some local friends, try some cool fighting games (though you probably shouldn't play online because newbies will get destroyed in a lot of them)

A lot of games are a chore to me these days, so I end up going for the more smaller or quirkier titles. I'm finding it harder to devote as much time to it in general though.

I mostly enjoy playing Nintendo games with my kids, other than that I'll buy a game and play it for a few hours and never have the energy to play it again. I need to quit buying every game that interests me.

Yeah, that's usually what I'm after. Of course, a game doesn't have to be typically fun to be engaging or enjoyable.

Not really, I played about an hour of Banjo Kazooie last night because my internet and cable cut out, and that's all the gaming I've done in the past month.

I only like Metal Gear games and N64 games, and don't really play much else anyways

thank you for using mostly english in your OP mufasa

I'm playing the 3 most frustrating games in existence at the moment:
- Dark Souls
- DKC:TF
- Mario Kart 3-star 150cc rubber band extravaganza

and I just keep coming back.

More into side chicks and inviting the boys over to cotch.

Still can have hella fun with videogames, they just have to be the right ones and fun isn't always the thing.

Sometimes...

After playing Watch Dogs? Not as much. But the Destiny alpha was the most fun I've had since The Last of Us.

Only when I'm actually playing games. Not when I'm discussing them on GAF or Twitter.

But yeah, been hitting my backlog. Some games have slow/boring bits, but overall it's cripplingly addictive and fun. Like my leg muscles are atrophying.

Of course, when I get bored of a game I stop playing it and uninstall it. There are some perennial exceptions that I keep on my hard drive because I know I always go back to them though. I think everyone gets fun in different ways. Some people get pleasure out of all the latest Tech innovations and Shinys. Personally I like the innovations, they add to my enjoyment, but one of my favorite games is Dwarf Fortress... Without a texture pack.

But all this shit, at the end of the day just seems like people are playing games (GAF and enthusiasts) to be impressed on a technical/art level than having fun.

Take a step back for a min n really see if you're having fun with the games u play.

There's nothing wrong with getting excited about new and more advanced technology doing things that are rare or never seen before. I do. It's not always one or the other.

If I'm not having fun playing the game, good graphics don't have much of a point. For me, Ubisoft has been a AAA developer whose games more often than not have been completely un-engaging; and all the advanced animation and graphics won't change that.

I'm extremely excited about Destiny, TLOU Remastered, Driveclub, and Alien Isolation because they look like fun games to play. They also look amazing to boot, so why shouldn't I fawn over the tech?
