2010 was dead boring, and I unfortunately managed to catch a greater percentage of games then than I have so far this year. My schedule is all messed up.

Today, I'm hoping for:

Ivory Coast
England
Japan

I'm torn on the first match of the day. I really like Colombia, but Ivory Coast was one of the teams I always played as in FIFA 06 World Cup and they've had my allegiance ever since.

You know, that's what I don't get. Getting upset about people using the BBC stream once for free and talking about charity at the same time. How is that even possible lol. I actually just donated yesterday to the earthquake victims here in Japan and I will gladly donate to Chidren In Need, just don't use that charity story to cover up your actual problem, guys: money. It's sad to see that a TV fee is that important tho. I won't use it, so relax.

Use the stream. Enjoy the world cup. Don't listen to them.

People are predicting a win for England over Uruguay? I'm not saying they won't, but I feel both will play desperately enough to make the outcome hard to predict right now.

Not to derail this thread, but your post doesn't make sense. What is wrong with talking about BBC and charity? You know access to football isn't charity, right? Helping people in developed nations get access to a foreign feed because their own country fails at streaming isn't a good cause. What exactly offends you about a friendly suggestion from someone that you donate a few pennies to the country providing you with the service?

And it's not sad to see that the TV fee is so important to some people. You forget that the BBC has to pay for the bandwidth you use. On-demand programs are peered with local ISP's, live streams obviously cannot be, so sending that data around costs a lot of money which would otherwise be spent on programming.

If you're gonna do it, fine. But don't act incredulous that others aren't exactly fond of you taking something that costs us £150/year. Every major international sporting event this happens and people immediately get prickly at the notion of giving back a few pennies in gratitude.

It's a shame Italy are gonna crush Costa Rica, I want England to be eliminated after they lose to Uruguay, instead they will still be mathematically alive.

2-0 to Uruguay. A Suarez double, and a Rooney red. Perfection.

Even if they win, England's still not out of the World Cup yet.

Right?

Would need Italy to win tonight, and Italy to beat Uruguay (when they'd only need a draw) and we'd have to beat Costa Rica by a high enough margin to overtake Uruguay and Costa Rica on goal difference. That's 3 requirements, 2 of which I don't think will occur

Don't forget to add a disallowed goal to the drama.

I want to see England do well just because I have a good British friend and have no particular attachment to Uruguay. That being said, I am familiar enough with England's world cup performance the past few outings to know they will probably fuck it up.

I wouldn't bet on it. We always have a hard time against "weaker" teams.

Suarez is filing his teeth as we speak.

I'll be distraight if he pulls any of that crap. If he does it against England, the media will put so much pressure on Liverpool to sell, we'll shit the bed regarding future merchandising and support uptake, and he'll be gone by July

England are more than capable of smashing Uruguay, but if Gerrard and Rooney decide to fall asleep again during the match then it can easily go the other way...

Well it would be a first in three world cups for him, so let's hope so.

This is also the first world cup he's come into in form. the past few have seen him kinda injured/worn out. His international career has been sad to watch because he's obviously a talented player and one of the best in the world for his club but things have never quite lined up for him in tournaments.

Did Pique only survive the poll because Spain doesn't have any other defenders?

Seriously, are there any up-and-coming Spanish defenders? Pique was the last one I heard of, and he stopped being up-and-coming a while ago now.

Edit: Googled and I guess Iñigo Martínez is one.

Whilst I think England are a better team than Uruguay it's hard to call. England had a lot (and I mean a lot) of chances against Italy that most other teams could have finished off, Sterling was on top form and every miss was just excruciating. IF England can work the ball the same way on the attack and actually finish this time then I can see an easy win. If not, then they're done.

Also, if The Ox plays, it's over.

as a Liverpool fan, I'm conflicted. I know Suárez will do pretty much everything (even something horribly controversial, if he's desperate enough) for Uruguay to get a win but I don't want him to get injured. We need him - the early PL fixtures are hard enough, and will be harder if he's not up top creating chaos.

On the other hand, Stevie, Sturridge, Sterling and Hendo are mah boys and I will be delighted for them if they emerge victorious, but I detest the Hodge.

I CAN'T DECIDE, GUYS ;_;

If Uruguay play the same as they did in their last game I'd like to think we should beat them comfortably, but you never know with England.

Spain played badly and this is definitely the end of the road for many key players. But we should also consider that in Holland / Chile / Australia they were handed a tough group. A perfect poison for a team on the downward spiral.

True, although Australia put up a much better fight against both Chile and the Netherlands which makes Spain look even worse.
