PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

I see this mentioned all the time but I don't understand why the art is always an issue here.

I don't see girl gamers complaining about the overly macho and disfigured bodies of the males.

Anyway, just ranting about it.

Guys I need some tips on HSG. I can't win the first pro tournament. Any help is appreciated. Some builds would be nice. I only have Yuna at max at the moment and some lvl 1 clubs and balls.

I'm a dude who's pretty sensitive to the kind of sexualized treatment that women receive in Video Games. I watch and agree with most of what Anita Sarkeesian has to say, for example, but I don't find the art in Vanillaware games to be offensive. It's meant to evoke a specific era of European art while also giving it a bizarre and surreal sexualization that makes it feel more fanciful than the dour art it's aping feels.

There are a few fanservicey shots (you know the ones) that make me roll my eyes, but I think it's mostly done in service of the setting and not specifically to sexualize women.

Maybe I'm just rationalizing it because I really like their games.

We can buy FEZ this week for 5€ in the EU PSN, is it a good port and worth the double dip?

I've only played the Vita version but its an amazing port. It looks fantastic on an OLED screen and the gameplay is perfectly suited to the pick up and play nature of the Vita. Well worth it in my opinion. Frame rate etc. seems solid as well.

dammit... ugh.... don't press... the

too late.

I just bought Kat on HSG but I don't see her anywhere. What gives?

Kat is an expert character. I think you need to unlock the expert character or levels first before you can use her. Most likely have to unlock Silver rank first because that's where the expert characters start to show up..or not >_>

Good grief, Magical Beat is harder than I expected, but when you get that zen like state where you understand the rhythm and patterns, game becomes godlike.

lord only knows how i managed or why I leveled him up to 100 (and as much as I enjoyed FFIX, I don't have a personal attachment to that game or that zidane)

my other level 100s in this game are lightning, squall, laguna, terra, cecil and yuna
Did you play Dissidia 1? How is the levelling system in Duodecim or however it's spelled? The first game had this lovely mechanic to exploit. You could change your "play style" so the game would give you experience bonuses on fights. Then the calendar system would give you bonus experience on certain days, too. Then there were items you could equip (breakable), that gave you a 100% exp bonus. All of those would stack. Then I would do a fight, a level 1 vs a level 99. There was a certain item set I would equip too, that would give me a *little* bit of a chance. But I would use either Seph or Terra, wait for the right time...get a crazy break on them a few times and come out the victor. Go from level 1 to 99 in one fight...but then you'd still have to take the time to learn all the skills. I had most of the cast 99'ed that way. It was a blast, and one incredible challenge. Regardless of super lame yet super hard levelling exploits, I reallllllly want this game. I put so much time in the first game, it's one incredible PSP title. Such great, fluid, over the top action. I always miss the FF sales....but next time...I will buy them all. The replay editor still puts many games to game with what they have for replays.
Out of curiosity, guys, how many games have you purchased for your Vita? Don't include F2P, PS1/PSP and PS+ games. Mine is around 11 retail, 8 digital.
At work, but I know I have 17 physical carts, and a plethora of digital games. Like many others, I go waaaaay overboard on those digital sales. Plus really cleans up during those times.

One bit of advice, try turning on easy mode. It affects *nothing*, aside from your ego. Once you start getting the hang of things more, go back and do it normal mode. But doing courses easy mode allows you to grasp the mechanics more and more while viewing other courses, layouts, and ball positioning while still earning points to buy gear. I always go for clubs and balls first. My ideal set up is Amy - Turbo Spin club, Pinhole ball, both level 3 because I refuse to buy those DLC clubs. But perhaps a character with differing play styles will help you out too, each character is fairly different. The balls flight path can also make or break a character. I have to use characters with straight shots, I just can't do those that curve their straight shots.

Sometimes I shake my head to the beat of the song when playing Magical Beat, and I don't do that in any other rhythm game.

Your character won't change appearance by equipping different armors, though (except for the fighter's shield).

Do PS+ subscriptions stack? Like if i enter 2 year long subscriptions will i get 2 years worth of PS+ or do I need to hold back and wait for one to finish?

Took a while for Terraria to click, I'm finally starting to get into it.

Trying to think of a number of games I've actually purchased for the Vita is hard. I have mostly PS1 games, games with crossbuy, or PS+ games. I don't have my system with me, but I'd venture that I've only bought like 5 or 6 games for my Vita first and foremost. PS+ and Gamefly are what let me play most of what I do in general.

Glad to hear it. I enjoyed the game for a while, but once I started to "max out" on normal mode it started boring me somewhat. I wasn't finding any awesome items, I think I killed most all the bosses, had crafted most of the awesome armors/weapons. But then I made the jump to hardmode, and mannn...that is where the game starts to shine in my eyes. That is when everything opens up, for you to start the process of finding things so you can find other things, all so you can find that ONE thing that is awesome. What thing, you say? It's the proverbial thing, as there is enough content in there for people of all playstyles. My favorite part about hardmode though, is that it is indeed hard. At least once you first get to it. Your armor sucks, the enemies are plentiful, and your weapon is like a wet noodle.

Wow from E3 its been a trainwreck that is showing no signs of stopping now. :(

E3; FF Typo, Yoshida Interview.

Guess they cancelled bend's game and whatever infamous vita was!

Hope GR2 makes it to vita!

Also whoever thought that Vita games downloaded on ps3 should also download patches should be beaten with a stick! The dammn thing cancelled automatically 4 times now while downloading patch for HSG. :(

I would had better downloaded it on psvita directly.

A portable infamous would have been pretty nice. Heck, even a port of Infamous 1 would have been something, assuming it wasn't a terrible rush job.

Honestly though, at this point all I'm hoping for is that the R&C Trilogy Collection turns out to be a decent port. If they can manage that, I'm not going to be all that perturbed about the vita's future.

Well on one hand sanzaru ported sly copper collection and it is amazing but on the other hand Ratchet used ND's Jak & Daxter Engine which runs terrible on vita! But since idol minds got R&C Collection to 1080p on ps3 while jak was subnative there is still hope.

Edit: Ah Fuck it! Cancelled again. Guess will download directly to vita!

I'm wondering how bad Vita Jak & Daxter collection actually is, because I bought Borderlands 2 for Vita despite the frame rate complaints and crash issues and it's been a lot of fun.

Thinking of picking it up, honestly.

Well I never played it before vita and was able to look past the flaws and all and I platinumed it. I think the game being sub native, highly compressed audio with fucked up double jump hurts it more. Its still playable start from finish without any crashes.

The 2nd game is next to unplayable due to mandatory back touch controls for driving. Got stuck on a mission for dropping something off across town! Failed it 5 times and never went back.

Brutal interview, I love it

JR: Are you going to see huge, mega budget PS Vita games that we have developed and we publish? I think that’s unlikely. That said, does Vita play an increasingly important role in our overall ecosystem… the old vertical silos where nothing ever talked to each other, that’s all breaking down now.

Whether it’s PlayStation Now, whether it’s Remote Play… where the statistics are really surprising in terms of the number of people who use the Remote Play functionality and the extent to which they use it. It’s not like they use it once and then they say, ‘OK, that’s great’ and then they put the PS Vita back in the draw.

GC: Do you have a percentage for that at all?

PR guy: No, we were going to do it last night but we didn’t. It ended up not being included.

JR: It’s double digits, so it does work. It will be a client device for PlayStation Now, and even potentially quite an important one. So in the sense it was initially intended – having huge, portable, exclusively-designed portable games – is that it’s future? Probably not. But does it have a future? Yes.

Just waiting to recieve my ¥5000 code and I'm going to grab Hotaru no Nikki. It's apparently pretty good. There's no dialog, everything's told through visuals, and it's really atmospheric.

Hm... I'll watch some youtube reviews and research it. What happened to the double jump?

I don't have a lot of faith in Mass Media. Or to be more accurate, I don't have a lot of faith in sony to appropriately fund Mass Media to do anything more than a mediocre job. The J&D Collection could have really used a patch for some things.

On the other hand, Ratchet and Clank reportedly wasn't nearly as difficult to code for compared to Jak and Daxter so who knows.

There's a lot of hyperbole over how bad that port was but at the same time, there are legitimate issues with it.

Jak 1 suffers from a distinct laggyness in the first stage of the game but after that, it's pretty much clear sailing. The issue with double jumping is directly carried over from the original PS2 versions.

Jak II is volatile. There are sections where it looks great and there are sections where the walls coming crashing down, literally. A couple of missions in the Industrial Section had the walls completely disappear on me. It was a timed mission too but I did manage to complete it. There's also a mission in the water slums area where the game can very quickly become a slide show. But, there were framerate problems with that same mission on both the PS2 and PS3 versions.

Didn't play Jak III so I can't comment on that. Heard good things about it other than some issues with the touch pad controls.

GC: Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great console. Remote Play is great and the indie support is excellent. But you didn’t announce any first party titles last night, and you didn’t last year either. Apart from a vague hint about Gravity Rush 2 I can’t think of any other way in which you’re supporting the system with your own games. I mean it’s a difficult market, everyone knows that…

JR: It is a difficult market.

PR guy: Last night Entwined was announced for PS Vita.

GC: [Luigi death stare] You know what I’m getting at.

JR: I do.
