So I'm wondering how they removed that. lol

I guess it fits into Kojima's statement that in order to craft a good story there have to be some minor inconsistencies when it comes to story.

Even so BB from MGS4 was reconstructed from parts of both Liquid and Solidus so they might have patched this thing up as well somehow

So i only played Metal gear and Metal gear snakes revenge on the NES. Did i miss anything while i was gone? :) Anyway is this game stand alone or will i be completely lost?

Game looks fun i like the idea of the whole meta game and building an base/army. I just hope it will get used at some point. Like the last mission you deplay 300 men and attack a base head on as a distraction or something.

You can get attacked there continuously throughout the game. Perhaps even by other players. Be excite!

If you haven't you should play MG2, MGS, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, Portable Ops, Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes. You probably won't need to play anything else after that. ;P

you didn't play MGS4?
parts from Solidus were used to patch up Big Boss' body after Solid Snake fucked him up.

I did, but that was like back when it came out. lol. I forgot what happened. There was so much talking in MGS4. Felt like a lot of the parts where they talked they kept repeating stuff and sometimes I'd just kind of zone out because it was too much. Probably gonna replay them all before MGSV comes out though.

It sounds like they are going with a storyline which won't alientate players new to the series, so you should be ok.

Hm, I doubt you'll be able to do that. In Peace Walker you can send some of your guys and vehicles to risk their lives in battles, but it's a very basic and abstract 8vs8 thing where you just get a battle report. I expect them to expand on that in some way but not have you running around the maps with a full army of your guys.

Watched a few minutes. Looks so good, as in options and playability. A lot of pop in and lod stuff going on. But despite that it looks nice.

Loved the Fulton, and it's as funny as before and more. Really want to see how things develop. And may have to play everything all over again. But with sleep so I can catch ask the details I may have missed while going in and out of consciousness.

I wonder if you attack the base as snake or as a soldier. It would be daft if you attack the base as snake. And snake comes out to defend it xD

They could do a Watchdogs and reskin the other player to "random badass guy" even though he's Snake too.

Bit off topic, but is there a decent place to read up on the story of the Metal Gear series, preferably with some pictures?

I played Solid 1, 2, like 4 hours of 3, 4 hours of Peace Walker, probably about 60% of MGS4, and Acid 1 and 2.

I have very little interest in going back to the previous games, but I'm for sure getting 5 on day one.

Basically, I'm lost on all the shit between the beginning of part 3, and part 1. And then 4.

I found this. I didn't actually watch it, but it seems like there's a whole series there.

Alternatively, there's the wiki.

play the games it's the only RIGHT choice.
Metal Gear Solid HD edition has a cheap price now, come on!!

I don't want to derail too much, but I played 1 twice, and 2 probably 10x including getting all the dog tags. I bought 3 on PS2 twice, and again on Vita and I can't make myself play it. I just do not enjoy the game, and I'm fully aware of how much everyone loved it. Peace Walker, I could maybe play if I had it on Vita, but I bought it physically for PSP and I just don't want to rebuy it.

There's really no going back for me. I've been playing Ground Zeroes constantly. It's way too far ahead. I could see myself playing MGS4 at some point though. I lost interest a little over half way through.

MGS V looks so far ahead of the past games in the series it's not even funny. I'm super excited. Just need to catch up on story honestly, but thank you :)

I'll check it out, thanks :)

Yeah, getting tickled by a hot lesbian really takes it out of you. Do you reckon we can add a 'Tickle Torture' Strut to Motherbase and re-recruit Strangelove?

Strangelove better be back in Phantom Pain, most interesting character in Peace Walker by far.

God, Troy Baker's Ocelot is great. I love it.

I wish he nailed more of Zimmerman's way of talking. MGS1/2/4 Ocelot talks in a really specific way, I was hoping Baker would emulate that a bit more.

Man, I just watched episode 1 and this series is fantastic! This is exactly what I wanted.

Looks like they only get up to the end of MGS3 over 5 videos. It's absurdly detailed.
Good to hear! There's always the cutscenes to fall back on if you can't find any other lore videos.

If they can take a man out of a coma and rebuild him with the body parts of his clones in Metal Gear's version of 2014, they can remove a piece of shrapnel from his skull.

MGS4 Big Boss is basically Frankenstein's monster, brought back to life by insane surgery where limbs from both Liquid and Solidus were used to return him from crispy bacon zombie form to his final appearance.

I'm sure removing a horn wouldn't be too much hassle. No retcon.

Actually we do see Solidus don't we? All skinless, so isn't that confirmation they grafted it on to BB?

Let's talk about this quote for a second.

It's film burn on the edges of the screen.

Konami's ToraShiro said the effect when you get hit is NOT blood, i'm sure everyone thought it was but it's not. So what does that mean? are we just in someones VR (Virtual Reality) mission reliving Big Boss memory or what?

I find this very important and i believe there is more to it.

Another thing i want to point out is this stuff.

Could it be some kind of DNA sequence?

Some people think it's just a lens flare effect and even Kojima said it when the interviewer asked but i think he's lying and there is more to it. Those orange lines seems to happen everytime some electronic device or some tech get's used.

Remember in this interview with Game Trailers at E3 2013 the very last question GT asks Kojima at around 4:17.

Given your reputation, the trailers that you've been shown off so far, do you think it's fair for fans to be sceptical of what they've been seen, like should they believe everything that you're saying? or are you doing a little bit of misdirection?

and Kojima's response was this:
ibm9ecyshnryp5mfom.gif

Call me fucking crazy but i think there is more to this. It's not just a simple lens flare effect. Especially after Konami confirming when you get hit it's film burn and NOT blood.

the VR theory is so awful. it was awful in the build-up to MGS3 and it's awful now.

his appearance in and of itself is a recon of his death. come on now. the entire ending of MGS4 was just silly

Guys what do you think about Big Boss's... "tail"?

Is it just a part of Snake's uniform, or could it be related to some gameplay element we havent heard of yet?

Could it be used for example to rapel? or some other use?

Or is it there just for looks?

It was film burn in Ground Zeroes as well, I thought everybody knew that by now. I'm not sure what you're implying.

Does Kojima have an ace up his sleeve? Perhaps? He didn't pull a stunt like that since MGS2 though, especially MGS4 and Peace Walker have been EXTREMELY straightforward. MGS3 had at least a bit of a twist, even though that one was revealed in the trailers before the game was even out. "I'm loyal to the end! To my purpose", whoo geez I wonder if she really did defect to the Soviet Union.

Yes, that same effect is in GZ too. BUT it's NOT blood. So what does that mean?

Damn it man, we've been over this.

The film grain stuff is there because of the "single shot" effect Kojima is using for the game. The camera never cuts away, even when transition to and from a cut scene. So to go along with the effect, he added the film burn.

The weird light, lens flare is just him taking inspiration from a popular Asian singing group (someone help me with the name).

You just need to relax

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
the scar ? the shrapnel ? or how they reattached his arm ?

all three can be explained by the fact that (MGS4 spoilers)
they farmed out parts from Solidus's body, considering how there's just a skeletal remain left of Solidus, they probably took the skin too.

If Snake get's hit it would make much more sense there is blood on the screen and not film burn.
