Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Do you guys think Bungie will develop sequels as years go by or will they just release expansion packs such as other MMOs (Given they signed a 10-year development contract with Activision)?

Question from someone that didn't play the alpha (sad I know). Do you get to choose a name for your character to display in game or do they just stick you with your PSN name?

I'm thinking sequels :P more money in it. There will be DLC for each game though you can bet on that.

PSN name :(

I wanted Thadius Longbottom The Third.

Current scheme is destiny --> comet (expansion) --> destiny 2 --> comet(expansion) --> destiny 3 --> comet (expansion). All comets come 12 months after a titled release and I between possibly dlc but that's unknown at this time.

I may be wrong, but I thought it was going to be something like.

Destiny -> Destiny Expansion -> Destiny 2 -> Destiny 2 Expansion etc... annual release for 10 years or something like that.

Edit: Beaten like a dead horse.

This doesn't sound bad actually. Given the time I spent In the one strike, exploration , Crucible and dancing (Most time spent), there seems to be enough content to hold us off for around a year until the expansion pack. Also, 2015 will be packed.

With the scale we've seen in the Alpha only, I doubt that they will have it annually (have they said anything about it?). Semiannual seems more likely.

I wonder if you can carry your character from destiny to destiny 2. Im also wondering if you can visit all the old places in Destiny 2.

I'm willing to bet character progress will transfer to each of the subsequent Destiny's however I'm no so sure about future games having all previous locations. That's one of the issues that I'm concerned with while deciding whether to go physical or digital.

Ideally, it would work like an MMO so you'd only ever have one Client (or Game application in this case), but I don't know how that will work out for physical copies unless the game does a full download onto the console.

its a very nice game and I had fun with the alpha but you guys are being drama queens,

a withdrawal thread? really?

nofunallowed.jpg

just be glad its coming in a few months, and for the people in the beta, try not to burn yourselves out on it, especially seeing how it wont transfer over to the real game.

Although I doubt characters won't transfer from the beta to the full release, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Are we in the beta yet?

ed: I've added everyone from DestinyGAF's Bungie page - GMT & European Time Zones. So, that was me, as said in the PM :)

To anyone concerned about their PSN preorder and not getting a Beta Code:

From the Bungie Support Forums:

http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post?id=65584088&groupId=18405

Greetings Guardians,

If you pre-ordered Destiny digitally through PSN on PlayStation 4 and are wondering where your Beta code is, fear not! We now have official word from Bungie and Sony that you are being looked after.

When the Beta draws nearer (July 17th if you didn't know), you will receive an email or direct message through the PlayStation Network with details on how the Beta will work. Keep in mind, you will NOT receive a Beta code through this pre-order method. When the time comes, your Beta access will be provided automatically as a reward from your digital pre-order.

In short, do not fret. You will all be able to access the Beta come July 17th.

Be brave Guardians. We have less than a month.

There will be more, just not at launch.
Er, right. I was talking about at launch.
Character creator was garbage and felt tacked on. Hope the main release is better. Mostly pointless anyway since 90+% of the time you'll be in first person mode or seen with a helmet.
I think you're being hyperbolic. Just because a character creator isn't the most complex thing ever doesn't mean it's tacked on, nor does it mean it's "garbage." I honestly liked that it wasn't the most complex thing in the world, because I can get lost in those types of character creators. It was relatively quick and easy.

And all the options looked good.

I'm starting a third GAF group called, "The REAL GAF Group" please pm to join.

Edit: Due to an internal power struggle, I have been forced to step down from The REAL GAF Group. I have started a new group called "Another GAF Group" please pm to join.

Edit2: I have been asked to disband Another GAF Group to avoid confusion with the name. I started a new group called "Gaming Among Friends" or "GAF" for short. Please pm to join.

Edit3: Back from a three year ban for what the mods called "ego bullshit." Starting a new group called "Fuck The Mods." I should note this group is running parallel to "Gaming Amoung Friends" (still going strong with seven members!), so you'll need to specify which group you want to join when you pm me.

Lol all the gafgroup drama has been confusing

And then you're even someone that has an alternative way of how DestinyGAF should be run by having control over the PSN DestinyGAF account and when everyone else is accused of being power hungry being the guy that runs out to create yet another way to do this is not the best position to be in.

You want the password?

I only registered that account after all the BS in these clan threads, I don't want anything to do with people like that. I can assure you that I also don't want anything to do with holding a position of "leadership" in any GAF clan either. I tried that once with Warframe, no thanks.

Agreed.

I tried to go back and check out this clan drama but only made it three pages before I could feel the migraine coming on. Play nice from here on out or I'll start using this thread to fill my ban quotas

For those who played the alpha: is the multiplayer re-playability on par with halo?

I'm a little confused about how this game is supposed to be played. Are you supposed to play the single player for a long time? Or do you beat the single player and then stick with multiplayer for the rest of the games life?

To our knowledge, you don't technically "beat" the singleplayer or PvE side of the game. That side is Co-Op Players vs. Environment (NPC enemies) and with expansions/dlc and future games.. more and more content will be added to that.

So the idea is that players can (and hopefully will) play both sides of the game continuously. If someone prefers one side more than the other, they can play that way and that's fine.. but it isn't like a traditional shooter in that you finish the campaign and that's it.

sounds good. so I assume the multiplayer wasn't just an afterthought by bungie

Yeah it's a shame you couldn't choose names for your character. I always tend to make a character named Al Bino when I can customize characters. But since I can't name my character I'm going to make the most funny looking guy I can possibly make. Mainly because everybody is going to be trying to make a cool looking character.

I've talked to Shadownet to sort stuff out between us and talked to the other people involved and apologized. I understood that there won't be any more posts on DestinyGAF in this thread until it is done to avoid further confusion. Drama is over.

On topic:

I didn't really pay attention in the Alpha, but are the dances your character does linked to its race? It felt to me like my Exo Warlock did some more robot-esque dancing than my Human Titan and Awoken Hunter. Just a coincidence?

That applies to some of the 'emotes' as well as my human hunter cannot salute like an exo warlock could.

Guess what, I can still be against the overplanning that is taking place and be against your snipe posts that only exist to antagonize.

The responses here have shown that you're really the most adult about the whole thing. Clearly.

You're the fall guy.

But seriously: I think it's good that there are admins that are from the various regions (time zones) to fix administration related issues and approve members, but I think creating a hierarchy before there is even a need for this is wasted effort.

As I said before: GAF guilds tend to shrink so much after launch that trying to come up with solutions this much in advance when everyone is still hype from the alpha is not necessary. And this game doesn't have a high player count for activities and we have this forum to discuss things and are not exactly the target audience for Bungie's website.

In the end, all I want is a clan tag under my name. ;-)

It's super long and allegedly very difficult.

I like you. Let's be friends. Or lovers. Whichever one comes first. But don't get clingy, I can't stand that shit. Jesus Christ give me some space already.

No but seriously I am looking forward to playing with peeps. I'll probably be playing with my buddy (and someone else I guess) a lot since like others have said it's a 3-person game for a large part of it. Whenever the 6 person games are required I'll want to be playing with GAF people. And of course whenever there's those multiplayer matches. Halo 2 had some cool Clan features, hopefully they learned their lessons on how to avoid clan cheating.

Any confirmation on how big the matchmaking battles will be?

I couldn't take it anymore caved in and pre ordered it this morning from game, along with Diablo:Ultimate Evil edition.

I absolutely loved the alpha and want more, although I want to see what areas we have access to in the Beta if things carry over to retail etc.

I wanted to play the majority of the content fresh come the 9th of september.

It's all just personal opinion, but I found the PVP included in the alpha to be quite awful. It's on the level of COD - die, spawn, die, spawn, die. Not nearly as fun as Halo due to the lack of a large array of vehicles and huge maps, but that could be different in the full game. If the vendors around the Tower are any indicator, Bungie is expecting that a lot of people are going to be grinding away in the Crucible (PVP).

For me personally the longevity of this game will be determined by the multiplayer, just not the multiplayer you were referring to. I'm talking about the co-op strikes/raid. That's where the fun was for me and I imagine a lot of other people. If there's a lot of cool armour sets and weapons available via co-op, I'll be happy.

I wonder if there are any weird one-liners Jason Jones required to be in Destiny.

In Halo 2, there were two lines Jason wanted in the game. They were: "I am a monument to all of your sins" and "The cable, I'm going to cut it."

Do we know what The Darkness is yet? Is it the creatures contained on the Moon? The Fallen?
I assume that it includes all of the races chasing the Traveler through space. What I want to know is why they are after it. Are they the civilizations of other galaxies the Traveler has visited? Are they trying to track it down and take it back for the benefit of their own galaxy / planet? Is that also why there is fighting between the different factions ( because they are from different galaxies )? Is perhaps, the Traveler the true evil in the game and the other factions are trying to stop it? Bungie could go in a whole lot of interesting directions with this.

No one knows but Bungie themselves. I think from what I've read on the Grimorie cards, some of the enemies (Possibly Hive or Fallen) worship The Darkness.

I just checked Destinypedia and it says that the Darkness grants power to the Fallen, Vex, Hive and Cabal, just like the Traveler grants power to the Guardians.

I also didn't know that the Traveler was in a dormant state and that the Guardians are trying to wake it up so it can help fend the Darkness once again.

I really hope we get to go inside the Traveler in the last DLC. :D

-edit-

I found som minor info about a "dark army". Maybe they are the ones controlling all the other enemies in the game? The prime enemy so to speak.

Their ships:

Guardian: (after killing The Hive leader): "Buzz off."

I understand humans and maybe the Awoken needing helmets on other planets but yeah, Exos should be able to toggle on and off unless they have real organs or something biologically that I don't know of.

And yeah, you should be able to turn your character while you're creating it. Very strange oversight. I tried every button because I couldn't believe that wouldn't be an option.

Hmm I thought the power of The Traveler made all those planets hospitable for Humans which is what the Golden Age was?

I agree on a helmet toggle though.

This. Fucking. Game.

Ever since the alpha it's all I can think about. It's like my taste buds have been shut off for other games. I'm playing them but something is missing.

Come on BETA!

Prometheus:

Charlie Holloway: David, why are you wearing a suit, man?
David: I beg your pardon?
Charlie Holloway: You don't breathe, remember? So why wear a suit?
David: I was designed like this because you are more comfortable interacting with your own kind. If I didn't wear a suit, it would defeat the purpose.
Charlie Holloway: They're making you guys pretty close, huh?
David: Not too close, I hope.
