Just worried that we won't get an awesome area like Makna Forest. This is a different kind of game.

Instead the areas will likely be less imaginative given the direction.

I have that concern as well but we really don't know how big the world is or what secrets there are.

The character designs of the first were endearing in standard definition, but that style doesn't really work with HD.

It's not even the same character designer. HD isn't the problem...the modeling just isn't that good and the art style probably isn't helping (the environment looks great but a more colorful, anime-style art style would work better for the characters).

Really debating on going into Xenoblade Chronicles first but man, the quests were annoying in that game. It was so difficult to find where to go for side quests. The combat was pretty fun, but I kind of gave up after 6 hours. Xenoblade Chronicles X looks great, but should I go back to the first one? Does it get more manageable? Better is not the right word because I know this game is held in high regards and I don't mean to offend anyone.

Honestly don't focus on doing sidequests too much, most of us that love the game to death even haven't done all of them. What's best is to take whatever you can find and do them naturally as you progress through the story, rather than actively trying to finish them. While exploring and goofing off people tend to just run into quest items, maybe beat a couple quest monsters. You'll end up finishing quests when you weren't looking to.

And Colony 9 to Tephra Cave is pretty much tutorial, I'd recommend not just putting it down until at least Bionis Leg.

You gave up after 6 hours? yeah the side quests can bog you down (I wasted way too many hours doing them and still didn't get close to 100%) but the main game is relatively straight forward.

Yeah, the side quests were a little annoying for me. It was entertaining, the combat, for sure. I am guessing the game gets exponentially more..involved? Or more engaging? I am trying to use a word that doesn't come off as insulting.

Of course! You'll take on this thing with your mech party eventually.

If that part does make it in the final game.

Man, I hope that moon/planet is explorable in the background. :)

the beginning area looks noticeably bigger to me than any single area in Xenoblade.

kinda leads me to believe the game will be a handful of really enormous areas as opposed to a dozen large zones that Xenoblade has

Yeah, I could see this happening, and it is a small concern of mine. I loved how Xenoblade had a lot of different areas (that all looked pretty different from each other). Hopefully this game will have a comparable amount (I honestly don't see how it could considering how large these are, but they might surprise us).

Well it did have it's flaws at times, the 1st couple of hours can be a bit dull, but once you get all the sub-systems open and really exploring the affinity charts the world really opens up and the way they build is pretty awesome.

It may also be possible that if the graphics look significantly less impressive that you'd expect that you are using the AV cables that came with the Wii instead of the superior component ones. I find this happening a great number of times.

I also can't wait to fly around in a mech but I seriously doubt you can just fly anywhere then. Wouldn't that put away any challenge to discover new areas? There will be surprises what new locations you can see. Really giddy. :)

Depends. Most likely the world is just really, really freaking gigantic such that there's going to be tons to discover anyway. And if they get the scale right then seeing things on foot won't be the same compared to hopping in your giant robot and seeing things from dozens of miles away.

During the E3 demos, when someone approached the small buildings outside the city, they suddenly materialized when the player was very close. I'm wondering if the "pop-in" of the buildings is a result of an early build? Not trying to pick apart a game coming out next year, just wondering as I saw it on multiple playthgroughs - the first gameplay demo of E3 and again when IGN was playing.

Here is an example:

To clarify my question, is this something that has a high probability of changing before release or could this be a hardware limitation?

Edit: This also triggered a "Discovery of Area" pop-up so possibly it was intentional? Maybe these small buildings/installations aren't meant to be seen from distances for discovery purposes and pop-in as the player gets close?

I will straight up buy a Wii U for this if they include Xenoblade Chronicles with it. Even if it's just a Wii disc and not an upgrade. Probably won't otherwise because I haven't played the first one... looks cool, though, and including the first game would be the tipping point to getting me to buy into the platform.

(Just stating this on a public forum in case randomly some Nintendo employee is looking for a way to sell a Wii U to someone.)

It's likely a mix of both the build being early and the WiiU power. It may also be likely that they haven't yet freeing some of the RAM on the OS for games and by the release date they might.

I'd think optimisation is one of the last things you'd do so I wouldn't worry about it. The Wii xenoblade didn't have as bad pop in, so I'm sure it's not a hardware issue. As painful as it is to repeat, there is still an entire year of development to go, enough to remake entire games...

doesn't really feel like game will be a direct sequel...more like a brand new world with some hints to the previous story. Xenoblade's ending...nah, cannot say more. But I wouldnt worry if I were you

I can see it improving given that it still has a year left in the oven, but it going away entirely is likely out of the question. To get an open world at that scale working some sacrifices would have to be made so it really all depends on monolithsoft's priorities.

Those eyes are anime as all hell.

Wasn't the side quests and main missions on the mini map easily identifiable.

Skip sidequests... It's that easy. I don't understand all the ill will toward this game when it's the player that continues to play apart of the game that's optional they aren't enjoying

I was finally able to start Xenoblade for myself, I've been planning to play it before X came out, but the footage from E3 convinced me to do it right now. I'm so hooked on it that I'm already 10 hours in.

I'm a bit confused though, I just got my fourth party member and I have no idea what role he's supposed to play. I already have my tank and healer, considering how much damage uniques/bosses do I don't think Shulk's shitty heals could keep up. Likewise, is there any point to controlling other characters? I play tanks in every MMORPG known to man so I'd like to use Reyn, but I don't trust the AI to control the Monado properly. But it'd be nice to be able to actually get knockdowns, since AI Reyn is too stupid to use his.

Sidequests are no problem for me, I just grab every one I see and if I happen to get them done while exploring...cool, free money. Otherwise I don't think about them. But I like to explore so it works out.

I might need to look up guides for some stuff I guess...I did some crafting but I'm not sure I was doing it right at all. I don't understand what these 'heart to heart' things are, or why none of them do anything outside of popping up a window telling me to fuck off. Large enemy groups seem a bit too hard, if I get swarmed by enemies Reyn can't keep up and either myself or Sharla end up pulling aggro.

I seem to be making fine progress regardless of not really knowing what I'm doing so yeah, I guess I'll just keep playing and hope it works out.

It's kind of funny how Xenosaga changed over each game.

1 had the most stylistic influence in terms of the bodies/faces.

2 went for a more realistic style (didn't like this tbh).

3 had the perfect mix of both stylistic features from 1 and slightly more realistic features from 2.

I won't say they've gone back to Xenosaga 1's style (even though it's the same character designer) more like the modelers have done a better job of interpreting the style versus what was done with Xenosaga 1's models. Ultimately I think issues with the style will just end up as a minor footnote when paired up to what the game's going to offer.

Probably no, since you can sprint in this game.

I'm pretty sure we'd still be able to teleport between landmarks. No way they'd go backwards with an awesome time saving mechanic. Vehicles will just magically appear with you. It's not like there's a whole lot of real world logic in this game - just look at that falling gif with no fall damage and magically appearing synchronised Elma.

Sprinting just reflects the extra size of the maps.

This is what I assume will happen.

Also even with landmarks you still have to travel to places on foot since landmarks only cover various safe spots on the map. What I'm curious about is how repairing limbs will work and air to air battles (I'm assuming we'll be fighting Growth Doll equivalents at some point in the game).

I really like the design of these guys. Just something about the way they move.

Can't wait to see more of the creature design later in the game that we haven't seen in the earlier trailers. Hoping for stuff that's maybe even bigger than that giant lava monster.

That is some impressive alien wildlife design for sure. Very intimidating looking, with wolf-like actions.

So I still don't get what kind of RPG this game is. Is this an open world game? But judging from he story trailer, there's gonna be a space battle right? Its so grand in its scale I don't know how they are going to pull it off.

So far what I've seen sent my hype through the roof. This might be just my gundam pilot simulation fantasy.

Have you played the 1st Xenoblade yet? It'll give you a basic look on what this game started from.

Sorry for the double post, but in the story trailer at 1:07 that character model looks exactly like the 1st default character for male from the character creator.

So that's where the main character is supposed to be I'm guessing. EDIT:Dear god the story trailer is hard to watch for the 5th time. I could watch the 1st two forever.
