2014 FIFA World Cup |OT4| What can European men do against such reckless heat?

Japan better not get it again

Having it in 1994 and 2022 is cutting it fine already imo for an acceptable gap between hosting it, let alone 2002 and 2022

i don't think it's that important when it's a replacement host. it's all just about practicality at that point. that's why mexico hosted it in 1970 and then again in 1986.

Sounds like more british players should play in foreign leagues as opposed to it being a problem that foreigners are increasing in number in the domestic british league.

We'd need to improve our training methods for young kids for that to happen (and probably give more importance to foreign languages in school)

Slow process, but the FA are kinda doing something about it finally.

The game is 7 or 8 hours away and I'm already all jacked up. I need to figure out how to keep myself busy until then.

Also, being this excited kind of scares me. Whenever I really look forward to a sports game, my team usually loses. I'll just have to act like I don't really care that it's happening until the game begins. Superstitions ftw.

So I'm thinking like 3-1 USA beats Portugal? We need to send in a goon to take out Ronaldo's knee

Good morning. Later today, players from the United States will join others from around Portugal, and they will be launching the largest sporting megaton in the history of mankind. Mankind. That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. The United States will once again be fighting for freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation. They're fighting for their right to live. To exist. And should they win the day, the twenty-second of June will no longer be known as the day America cared about the World Cup, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: Football will not go quietly into the night! Football will not vanish without a fight! Football 's going to live on! Football's going to survive! Today we celebrate Portugal's elimination.

USA can rest easy. Ronaldo is in bad shape, defense is severely compromised, and the attackers don't have a prayer. You'll win easily.

Just do the rest of us a favor and tone down the "Murrica" chants afterwards :)

i hope portugal wins because it's the only chance germany gets eliminated. if portugal beats usa and ghana and then germany loses to usa that would be glorious. it's just a shame ghana would have to be sacrificed for the greater good.

my perfect game would be Portugal win 1-0 from a dive in the penalty box in the 94th minute with Ronaldo scoring the penalty

i want the tears!

Rooting for US and Argentina the rest of way even though I'm really impartial. I just like the US as an underdog story and Argentina for Messi.

If the US wins, there will be no "toning down" tonight.

But if it makes you feel any better, plenty of us do it ironically as much as or more than we do it seriously.

The choice had more to do with the continent swapping.

North America hasn't had a world cup since 94 meanwhile before 2022 there will have been 3 Euro , 1 African, 1 Asian, and 1 South American world cups.

If we limit the federations to the bids then it leaves North America as a lock for 2026(Unless New Zealand Bids.

The Only nations I can see hosting the world cup are Canada, Mexico, and the US.

Canada is having the Women's world cup next year and Mexico has already hosted twice.

Maybe I'm clueless, but who has the bigger burden winning this game / is the underdog?

Portugal, depending only on Ronaldo and suffering severe losses with Coentrao, Pepe and Almeida and having been slapped around by Germany?

Or the US who have won their first match against Ghana, who performed terrific against Germany?

wowowow usa fever is here! \o/ so excite :D

russia 2-1 belgium
korea 1-1 algeria
usa 2-3 portugal

sorry usa, i love you guys, but i think portugal is the stronger team ;__; pls forgive

Portugal needs to win if they want to go to the next round. It will make the group way more interesting as well.

Hoping for good games. Rooting for the russian lady.

OT: I have got two redirect ads today from neogaf (Edit: lol. speeddemosarchives. I wondered where all my sda openings went. s removed. lol.). Oldschool. On positive note, no virus alerts today.

Average American 12 year old girl:

Good luck Portugal. You will need it.

How is this relevant ?, is the US team made of 12 year old girls ?

Look at the level of skill and dexterity on display. If even one of our younglings can rek with such mastery, one should quake with fear and despair at what our trained male prime rib spartans can do.

Too bad our prime rib Spartans chose American football, basketball, and baseball.

Worth mentioning Just Fontaine scored his 13 goals in 1 world cup in 1958 and that's the only World Cup he ever appeared in.
