...oh god, Blonde Bland McBlandington and Blue-Hair the 3rd are really going to be in aren't they? :/
I don't mind Shulk, but fucking Chrom man. Three very similar looking blue-haired sword wielders is such a shame considering Fire Emblem's character diversity. Kellam, Avatar, Tiki.
Cue "Oh but they wield their sword differently" arguments

If you wanted an example of a tanky General-type; someone like Hardin would serve your point more effectively than a non-character like Kellam.

I'm in the exact opposite boat. I can understand people's problem's with Chrom, but I'm excited for him. I love playing the FE characters, and he will be the first FE character I can truly relate to.

But because we're already getting Chrom from the looks of it, my personal preference pushes Shulk from indifference to damn I really don't want him in. Especially with Palutena, Chrom, Mii fighters, Rosalina, and hell even Little Mac and WFT, he's just that one-too-many I look like a human and I have a sword character for me.
But I have confidence that he will be an awesome fighter. I just don't see why we're getting so many regular looking dudes when we could be getting purple space dragons or crocodile kings.
Also, everytime I see his name I think of She Hulk. I can't be alone on that.
Do you often fight down rival nations and undead soldiers alongside your?daughter from the future
Heh, when there's no immediate context I sometimes get confuzzled between Shulk and She-hulk, especially after seeing her being called Shulk by the MvC3 community for so long :3
I think most people would be up for a Fire Emblem rep from the latest game though... just maybe not Chrom![]()
How would you feel about Robin/my Unit/the tactician (the customisable avatar you make in it basically)? With villager getting in with a fairly diverse set of skins I feel like the stage is set for Robin to also appear; in fact, if it weren't for the leak I'd feel fairly good about their odds![]()

I think of "sulk", and for some reason also of this guy:

For some reason his name sounds to me like an onomatopaeia of a sound a snail/slug would make. Not particularly flattering, I know.

I suppose it's fitting for such a bland and archetypical character.
Is he really? Because that's what I can't help but think when I look at him, but I try to give him the benefit of the doubt.
He just straight up looks like what "Final Fantasy : Whatever"'s protagonist would look like to me. Part of the reason why I'm not psyched about his inclusion.
I feel like I've even heard Shulk/Xenoblade fans themselves say he's not the most interesting character.
even if the supporting cast is all far more interesting than Shulk![]()
He feels very focus-tested, likely as a result of Takahashi intentionally targeting a simple story to offset the 'experimental' game design. "Personality"-wise, he's a combination of every generic teenaged male protagonist you can name; who delivers nothing but utter boredom with laser precision. Lightning would honestly be a more interesting addition.

I liked Shulk more than most generic characters because he's actually a really nice guy. He's the everyman with solid morals put in an extraordinary situation (he's no hero or even action guy at the start of the game, rather being the "smart, technically inclined" one of the party), although he can be quite badass in some cutscenes. He's usually the moral compass of the party, preventing them for (for example) killing someone in revenge, all without being preachy. The fact that he's not an angsty teenager with deeply seated psychological issues may understandably strike people as "uninteresting", probably for the same reason I find Superman uninteresting, and that's fair. I guess the most similar character to him would be Crono, if you've played Chrono Trigger, with the sole difference that he does talk so he's slightly less obviously a stand-in for the player.
The Monado is fucking radical. That's more than enough reason to include Shulk.

Case and point.
Shulk be lame. Well at least you're excited. Must be something I'm missing here.
Ugh. Worse than I figured. Why is he getting a slot over K. Rool again? Now I'm just a bit salty.
There must be SOMETHING about Xenoblade that makes people excited though, but it seems like it's obviously not She Hulk.
To be honest... I'm not sure we could accurately tell you what the Monado is without spoilering stuff but let's just say that it's form doesn't necessarily dictate it's function. it looks like a sword though, yes. It's the red blade-like object he wields, but it has many uses beyond that: you could almost say that the Monada is the entire plot of the game in itself. What is the Monado and why is it so rad? Is that his sword?

Yes, it's his laser beam sword that lets him see the future.

Well then. That does sound fairly rad.
What kind of things could it bring to the Smash table besides hackin an slashin? It can shoot lasers and shit? I'm genuinely curious now, I want to like his inclusion.
What are the odds of a 3ds game working after its been submerged in water?
I hope you spoiler'd that because you're aware of how unlikely it is![]()
I'm glad that this Xenoblade discussion actually kicked off but now I'm afraid of spoilers.
The plot's enjoyable enough and has a few twists and turns that might surprise you. I mean, you're basically adventuring on the giant corpse of a god so it's not exactly a boring premise to begin with :3Hmmm. Is the plot....good?
Also, thanks for no spoilers, but would you say it would be possible for the Monado to be exciting/interesting in Smash without it using spoilers? If ya get what I'm sayin?
Ok I won't lie, you have my interest. I might have to play this She Hulk game now.
I knew nothing about it at all. Had no idea you were on the corpse of a god. The story seems to be more about this Monado than any character themselves, even though it's awesome to hear you can play as sode characters and they are interesting. And that thing you said about seeing into the future and planning for it in battle sounds totally awesome. If that could be implemented into Smash in some way, it could make for a ridiculously cool chatacter.
Maybe I'll end up liking him after all. I'll just think of him as a bad-ass sword rather than a dude if his moveset's done well enough. Also thanks for the explanations.
"I see your strength is the genuine article!"Man what a bunch of johkahs.
Man what a bunch of johkahs.
He can also see the future. He should get a skill that lets him auto-evade. He becomes 100% unhittable for a few seconds unless he's attacking. Throw that in his moveset as well as Monado Shield, Armour, and Eater and he'll be unstoppable. Topple can inflict Tripping on fools. All that Shulk would really need to let me do is wreck fools with the Monado Buster. Sword-beams are hype.
She Hulk would have an amazing final smash - Sunday Driver.
Well it needs someone to use it. Alvis can if no one else does. but who cares about alvisTo fully utilise its potential, the Monado itself should be a newcomer. Shulk's just dead weight attached to the handle.

Of course they do. But we're at the point where the Gematsu leak in nearly infallible. This along with the leak? Comon.
Oh you'll be fine. At least you're not in my situation. (God dammit Snake where the fuck are you.)
So how many sword-wielders are there now?

I just thought of something.
I know people have been speculating that we are getting 48 slots on characters selection screen, so I can't help it but wondering if we are going to have 46 playable characters, 1 random and 1 DLC button rather than 47 playable characters. Only if DLC rumor is real.
