Ok, I'm watching the Japanese Mario/Peach recap show thing and they say that the 3DS version comes out September 13h. Did we already know this or should I make a new thread?

Leffen's Fox play during his match against PPMD's Falco at MLG Anaheim this past weekend was, no exaggeration, the best Fox play I've ever seen, and I've been following competitive Melee for about 8 years at this point. Watch as he utterly decimates not only the best Falco in the world, but arguably the best player in the world, period. PP was forced to go Marth for the rest of the set. Watch the full set here.

It's stuff like this that makes me a believer in 20XX.
When I heard Leffen beat PPMD, I wasn't expecting this sort of exhibition. Incredible.

Link and Donkey Kong swapping Final Smashes confirmed.
Donkey Kong would punch opponents trapped between two rotating bananas.

If screenshots/videos are easily shared all over the internet (similar to how mario kart is doing) then I will be sad every time I see his ugly face.

Alt skin not being an alt costume doesn't bother me. It's minimal effort fanservice.

The internet existed during Brawl too.

And Sonic's model as a whole was shit in that game. I recognized it, but got over it after playing it. I really think no one but forum dwellers will care.

whoa, that first match was crazy

Fortunately, I backed it up. Reposting:

A guy I know who works for the marketing department of Nintendo has given me a little bit of info about the game as a result of promotional materials he has seen, and while I can't completely confirm or deny the Sal Roman leak with what he has, he said that Shulk is definitely in and Lucas is definitely out, which lines up with Sal's info. Additionally, Mewtwo is playable and King K. Rool is a boss on a new DK stage based off of the Gangplank Galleon stage. As for credibility, obviously I have none, so he said to say that Falco is supposed to be revealed this week. So, that basically gives him a very small window of opportunity to be proven fake.

Who did PPMD play that trapped him in an infinite shine (into up-smash) combo against the wall in Pokemon Stadium? His expression after that was hilarious.

Hmmm. And that's why Rosilina is getting the boots.

Begone Space Peach!

Erm what

Rosalina's silhouette is distinct. Notice how she lacks the puffy skirt and has a different body structure? If anything Peach and Daisy are more the same.

Add this to the list of "My uncle's dad's friend's son works for Nintendo" things people post.

Even if Falco is revealed this week, I will never lose faith that Lucas will be back.
Because seriously, how many times can he keep choosing the top 2 characters I use when he makes cuts?!?

The silhouette thing is clearly not a criteria for Smash. Quit trippin folks. Plus, the Peach/Daisy/Rosalina one is a terrible example. What if Daisy's silhouette had a different pose? What if Fox and Wolf's silhouette had the same pose?

C'mon.

Would you be able to tell the difference from Kirby, Jigglypuff, and Samus rolled into a ball from just a silhouette?

I'm just countering the Daisy/Peach thing about why she wasn't included because of her silhouette.

In general, I think the whole silhouette argument over a crossover title is dumb. It's legitimate when it's an original title with original characters, but when it's a crossover, they're pulling the most important/interesting characters and has nothing to do with their silhouette.

(Also, you kinda helped my point, maybe you were trying to *shrugs*)

I wasn't able to watch MLG Anaheim and I haven't gotten around to watching any of it yet, but dear god this set. It's insane. Probably the best competitively Melee set I've watched in a while. The first two matches with the upsets are great, and that last one just got me so hyped.

Honestly, I easily identified Rosalina, but didn't identify Daisy.

Which is probably why Daisy is not in Smash.
Rosalina also shows up in Mario games which don't end in the words 'Kart', 'Tennis', 'Golf' or 'Party'.

A probable fake riding off the coattails of Sal's source, but I'd be totally fine with one of the new DK stages being Gangplank Galleon with a physical K. Rool boss cameo.

The princess silhouette is already a terrible example because it's used as an argument against Rosalina... despite clearly showing how distinct Rosalina is lol

I'm pretty sure almost a year ago somebody in the Smash OT was regularly arguing Rosalina would never happen with the same exact image.

Within the same month of her reveal too I think.

Interesting about Falco possibly being revealed this week. If he's not, well, at least that "leak" is proven fake really quickly.

So it seems the general opinion on Mega Man is that he's both the weakest newcomer and probable bottom tier, right? Or have I just been reading the wrong opinions?

That seems crazy to me, as I spent a lot of time playing him at E3 and I found him to have a bit of a learning curve, but quite dangerous once you wrap your head around the fact that his neutral A and forward smash are projectiles and not physical punches/kicks. All of his smashes are particularly dangerous - his Charge Shot especially - and I was able to KO a lot of people off the top of the screen with the Air Shooter (up air). I know I posted my character impressions awhile back, but I don't recall seeing anyone respond to them. What are the general thoughts on the newcomers here?

In fact, speaking of Mega Man, I won four Smash t-shirts as him at E3 and I'm giving three of them away on my Twitter account (@ashpaulsen). One's already gone, but I'm giving another away tomorrow, so follow me if you're interested in trying to win one. I can ship all over the US.

Hoping at least one of the remaining pics this week gives us some details on Palutena. As full of hype as Pac-Man is and as surprisingly neat as the Mii Fighters are, the E3 2014 newcomer I REALLY want more details on is Palutena. Right now it kinda feels like her announcement came and went with almost no fanfare, which sucks considering how much of SmashGAF has been hyped for her since that "leak" a few months back. Give us some Palutena info, Samurai!

The amazing thing is... a lot of the tournament is about as good. So many incredibly high level, entertaining sets were played over the weekend. I'm still making my way through them, and I've seen at least 10 GIF worthy moments already. Such an amazing tournament from beginning to end.

Amsa's Yoshi play and Axe's Pikachu play were also the best those characters have ever been seen played, and are on par with Leffen's Fox when it comes to crazy moments.

MLGSmash has uploaded a ton of matches so far, still waiting on championship Sunday.

This reason in general is why many characters in fighting games are called out as low tier in early game meta. I'm sure his role and "tier" will become more apparent as the game ages and is in the hand of thousands of players, versus the small sample of people who have had hardly any chance to learn the character.

Yay, Ash is back. :-D

General impression of Mega Man seems to peg him at "mid-tier," from what I can tell, but I don't think anyone knows for sure this early.

Could be that he's just tough to use and once people know how to zone with his ranged move-set he'll fare better.

most impressions on Megaman are a mixed bag. Its safe to assume he is at least middle tier. I personally think he can be high, but since ive yet to play it....Maximillian thinks he has a high learning curve but seems worth it, not too OP but not under powered either. A perfect balance?

And damn Puerto Rico not being considered US >_>

Yeah, that makes sense. I still don't think his learning curve was as steep as what players will face with Villager or Rosalina, though, based on my time with all of them. And Rosalina is considered to potentially be the strongest newcomer, right?

Yay, Ash is back. :-D

Haha yeah, I'm back. I've been back for awhile, actually, but didn't really feel much like coming back to this thread immediately after what happened. I think it was kind of BS the way it went down, but eh, it is what it is and it's in the past. I've been lurking, and felt like tonight was the right time to start posting again. ;)

The GIFs got me interested, but nobody told me that Prog and D1 were commentating!

Maximillian had a (somewhat) positive impression on Mega Man.

Main problem seems to be his specials both take too long to execute and don't do that much damage.

From what I played, Mega Man and Villager both had a high learning curve. And this is coming from someone who picked up on Olimar almost immediately.

Maximillian seemed to place Mega Man in the "middle-tier" range in his video, but of course it's silly to try and do that this early. He did state that it was amazing how much controlling him felt like you were playing an actual Mega Man game. Did you find that to be true?

EDIT: DICKS AHOY (haha, amazing username by the way) beat me to it.

What is size of shirt?

Large. That's the only size they had at E3. :(

Gah, sorry about Puerto Rico. :(

I think he can definitely be high. I'm telling you, once I learned how to play against the fact that his neutral A and forward smash are atypical compared to most characters, I got a *lot* better with him. The fact that his Charge Shot is a projectile and does as much knockback as it does makes him quite dangerous, and Flame Blast (down smash) launches like crazy. Spark Shock (up smash) seems to be his least effective smash, kind of like a weaker version of Zelda's up smash, but it's still pretty good all things considered. I also found Top Spin to be an incredibly useful dash attack, much like Kirby's spinning kick dash, and I love how it was implemented.

Yeah, in the hands of a beginner or someone who hasn't figured him out, he seems to suck quite a bit (as evidenced by whoever it was that played him in the Invitational... good god he was awful). But I think he'll be pretty dangerous in the hands of someone who's experienced with him, kind of like Snake.

Oh, thanks! I'll watch this video as soon as I'm back at home and not at Starbucks with their crappy wifi.

I definitely agree that his specials are his weakest aspect, no question. Metal Blade is slow and doesn't do as much damage as it feels like it should, and is rather easy to catch and use back against Mega Man. Leaf Shield is only useful in specific situations, but can be quite dangerous in those limited situations (when it is charged with projectiles, like Game & Watch's Oil Spill). Crash Bomb is actually okay, but it's slow to launch and requires that you not go in for a follow-up attack on that opponent (lest it get stuck back onto Mega Man in the process), and its lacking 10% damage had me wondering if it's worth the effort of using it. At least Rush Coil is a great recovery!

And yes, I definitely felt that playing Mega Man in Smash felt amazingly similar to just playing a Mega Man game. That's one of my favorite things about him, no question.
