The only weird thing about wolf was that he wasn't in SSE proper. He, toon Link, and Jigglypuff were all some weird one-off character w/ one intro cutscene but not featured in any other story-related cutscenes for SSE. It made them FEEL like last-minute inclusions because of that. It's possible that they created the story for SSE while still finalizing characters, I suppose. That's likely not true because I doubt jiggly was ever considered to be cut.

I figured that was the reason why that line of thinking was floating around. If that's the case, I can't even say that felt last minute, moreso just giving SSE replayability.

What did feel out of place was Sonic coming out of nowhere saving everyone a clear demise from not actually forming a plan.

Oof, now that theory is just silly to read.

I wonder if Shulk was picked before or after Xenoblade got an international release?
Likely after, Smash 4 stated development after Uprising was complete. By then the game hit Europe & I think it's US release was announced (if not, Sakurai must have heard it was gonna happen).

I'm hoping Sakurai announces a game mode like Capture the Flag.

Imagine a flag on each side of a large map. 2v2. Players coordinates efforts in defending and attacking to get their flag and bring it back to their base. Players can even throw the flag to teammates to catch and run with.

Modes like this should be developed.

Also, I'm hoping he announces modes that involve more than 4 characters on the screen... and online.

The most likely possibility is that they were just cut from the SSE story or they weren't able to put them into it in a reasonable way. Maybe they wanted to have a wolf boss fight but it was cut. Maybe jiggly showed up w/ kirby or something. Who knows. Regardless, they're not part of the main story.

Huh, sounds like a good idea.

All the Xenoblade talk has me wondering... To those who have played the game, how critical do you think it will be to have played the game before Shulk is revealed if I want to avoid having the game spoiled for me? Should I play it ASAP, or do you think it's unlikely that Xenoblade's representation in Smash Bros. will contain any major spoilers for the game? I really would like to play the game sometime... It's been sitting on my shelf for over a year now. But because I'm not too fond of RPGs and I know the game is SUPER long, I've kind of been too intimidated to start it. What should I do? Worry about playing it now, or later?

By any chance, did you play through Mother 3? Considering how Brawl spoiled the crap out of that game, I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here with Xenoblade.

I won't even be able to spectate if smash is there (along with MKX and KI: Season 2)

I'll just be gaming alllllll day.

Haha. You know there's going to be some announcements at EVO. Killer Instinct!! Cinder!!

I actually kinda hope that Chrom, Chorus Kids and Shulk aren't revealed before release and are hidden unlockables. Reason I say that is because I feel that Pac-Man is a good final newcomer reveal choice. But that's just me.

The characters are bound to be shown either way. Besides everyone is getting those reveal trailers! And it's only a matter of time before we recieve those. :P

I still am on the Issac train. I really hope he is a hidden character. He would be so perfect as playable, Golden Sun coming to VC might be the push the series needs to get a character in. No confirmation of him as an AT yet makes Mr hopeful but yknow ridleywaiting.gif

I doubt it's gonna spoil it too badly, honestly.

But if I were you I'd use it as an excuse to play Xenoblade, just in case. This is as good a time as any!

I like it.

Another, similar thing that I think would fit well in Smash: a zone or king of the hill type of mode. Essentially one small section or area increases score for the players standing in it, and the goal of the game is to try to stay in this confined space, and keep your opponents out. It's sort of a nested, microcosmic version of normal Smash.

hmm, is that original plan of Playstation All Stars Battle Royale?

Well, I can't think off the top of my head anything from the more obvious stuff he'd do that could be spoileriffic but Sakurai is pretty unpredictable :P
With a playable character there'd be stages to go with them, one for each I assume and those might be spoilery? The biggest source of Xenoblade spoilers would likely be the trophies I suspect :o

It's worth noting that Durden has currently started a playthrough of it if you'd rather watch than play XD

He was an unlockable Assist Trophy, which is most likely the reason of him not being shown yet. But I still have hope! If he ends up not being in the game at all, i'll be on train of him being DLC. :P

The trailers could easily be hidden on the official website/put in the cinematic a section of the game.

Aside from the beginning of the fan translation sometime after Brawl came out, no. However, for whatever reason, MOTHER 3 captures my interest much more than Xenoblade Chronicles ever has, and I do still want to play through it someday even though I've had most of it spoiled for me by now. With Xenoblade, however, I feel like if it's spoiled for me I may just never bother with it.

That's what I figured. I guess I have until Xenoblade Chronicles X comes out, lol. (And then I'll have the same problem with that one. =P)

I don't really care for watching other people play a game, but thanks.

Thanks.

Yes, that's another mode that would work really well.

There was a lot of things that was supposed to be in that game.
LOL they said the menu layout would change for the final release

PSABR-Character-select.jpg

resurrect isaac sakurai. please

Only smash can do it (like it did for other characters)

Isaac being playable on a smash bros for handhelds (3ds) would do it.

My OC SSB mode:

American Sandbag
2v2
stages of above average width with field goals and goal zones and some platforms strewn about
sandbag in the middle, punch and throw him/her/it to score goals
characters at constant percent/knockback, focus is on scoring goals with sandbag
option to spawn baseball bats center stage at regular intervals

I really wanted that game to be good, but even in the menu presentation you can tell it's just going to be a poor man's Smash. I'd love for them to give it another shot on PS4.

I really wish it had ended up just being a poor man's Smash. The super system wasn't fun after the first ten minutes of experimentation and just finding out which one was the best killer for your character.

I'm still surprised how much they failed with PBAS. I mean, as you say, the super system idea is really unrewarding a lot of the time and highly unintuitive for new players, the UI looks horrible and if that wasn't enough each UI screen takes an age to load. You spend faaaar too long waiting on loading for a game that's entirely on your HDD if you downloaded it (Which I did :P ) Add on the questionable roster, incongruent and sometimes flat out ugly art style and there's just really not much there to recommend :/

The game just had no personality.

It made me realize how much Smash gets right and why I roll my eyes at all the "Sakurai doesn't even try to make these games" shit.

They really shat the bed with extra modes too, it makes you appreciate how much they're putting into Smash with extra moves and whatnot when PSASBR just had basically time and stock.

Just do what I do whenever someone spouts the "oh Sakurai made the first two games good on accident and made Brawl bad on purpose" drivel: laugh, then block them.

- WiiFolderJosh says Shulk is too obscure for Smash
- Asks for Captain Rainbow

At least he didn't say he'll give the world a blowjob when Shulk gets in.

4 will cost me $120..

Would be nice if they hit that $20-25 sweet spot. But I'm sure there will be bundles and deals near release.

Buying 4 and the bundle. 3 + bundle to use and 1 to save for the apocalypse.

Never played it, but if it's got similar gameplay to PSASBR then it's probably not much fun.

It's fun, especially if you like the anime characters in it. As a one piece fan it was ok. At least it's HP based and not special move based.

Jump Ultimate Stars is awesome. Definitely worth checking out if you're into Jump.

Ugh, so bad.

Probably one of the most soulless games I've ever played.

I've consistently thought about picking it up when it's been sub-$10 on sale but that character select has officially perma-unsold me.

That sounds alright to me. I've always thought there could be a Smash Bros. clone balanced around HP instead of ring outs if they didn't want to make an exact copy of the mechanics.

I'm actually a little surprised that's not what ASBR ended up being.
