And, you know what, the conversation will shift back to Suarez once FIFA issue their punishment. There's only so many ways you can condemn or condone somebody before the conversation turns to something else. In this case, it's the nature of how the English speaking media has reported the Uruguayan reaction to the bite.
The Italians are mostly frustrated from blowing the group stage from such a good start. Suarez and Uruguay are easy targets from their perspective, just like how Ronaldo and Portugal were easy targets when Rooney got sent off in 2006.

I think his antics against Ghana were far worse. He almost single handedly (scuse pun) knocked them out of the World Cup with one of the most dick moves possible, now that is something Ghana will never forgive him for. Italy lost on their own merits and Chiellini will continue playing with no long term or even short term injury, he didnt even need treatment.
This is more like a circus stunt by comparison. Its more the shock and disbelief of what he did because its nearly unheard of....for anyone else anyway. There have been far worse attempts on a player and their career. This is more lunacy and awe than anything else.
Saying the entire Uruguay team should be reprimanded or expelled from the tournament is ridiculous, it was the act of a single player and an action that didnt effect the outcome of the game. Uruguays only natural position is to defend their player who has the best chance to keep them moving forward in the cup and thats what they are doing, any other team in the world would be doing exactly the same thing, this isnt a uniquely Uruguayan position, taking it out on the team wont right anything.
Well I have seen the support but saw a lot less of the lack of it. The people with influence and positions seem to support Suarez. But my standards of what support and apologism might are different than yours, for example I think you support him or at least did support him and are all over the place.
His statement is embarassing nonsense and I don't see how it wouldn't be divisive towards those who don't like Suarez or think "don't see it, this shit happen, it is just football, slippery slope" is embarassing arguements. Surely there are less divisive statements to make about this. Like praise the rest of the players, say how the success is not overshadowed by the actions of one person.
Either way there are a lot worse sins than supporting Suarez as big of a cunt as he is, so no big deal but it is a losing battle.
At such Uruguay is cool, but it still kind of sucks that there is so much support of him. But I agree with you that the country shouldn't be hated, people get too far in doing that sometimes.
I know this was posted a few hours ago but I feel the need to reply. I was bitten by a shoplifter a while who whilst working retail and I'd rather have been punched, there's something horribly intimate about wanting to physically hurt someone that way and at the time it really shocked me. Although kids bite there's nothing juvenile about a grown man biting someone, and I don't think it should be trivialised like that, my automatic reaction was to backhand my biter and I'm impressed Chiellini kept his cool. You expect an element of physicality in today's game but nothing on that level.

Also, I understand the national defence for Suarez, no one's going to outright condemn what he did and I would expect the same if an England player did something similar ( although our press would go to town, they love shit like that). I doubt he'll get any sort of ban, I think he may lose a sponsorship deal though.

Maybe soured was the wrong word, but it's distracted from what has been a great tournament. The media aren't talking about the brilliant matches and goals, or even going through the normal England-exit inquest. It's all about the bite.

I feel I should further qualify my remark in that a bite in the context of a football match is stupid and juvenile. Outside of that, particular to your situation, that's a perfectly valid response and I would be similarly disgusted too. On a football pitch, I've been elbowed in the side, in the chin and had someone back into me and stamp on my foot (which put me out for a few weeks) and I'd much rather be bitten, because, in the context of a football match, it's something I can shrug off and continue on regardless.

Not really. Ghana were tangibly robbed of progression by Suarez cheating. Italy, not so much.
I suppose when you compare the physical damage done to yourself you're correct, however I think it's the intent that separates the acts here. I think you need to be a nasty piece of work to intentionally bite someone.
FIFA needs to change the rules on this. They are merely encouraging players to break the rules by not awarding a goal for such behavior.
Now they've *got* goal-line technology, it crosses my mind that in logistic terms, this is fundamentally the same principle as leg-before-wicket, and could trivially be handled and adjudicated in exactly the same way.

In the case of the Suarez handball, I think the rule should be thus:
A: If the ball may have entered the net, penalty and a red card
B: If the ball would have entered the net, goal awarded and red card
That ball absolutely 100% was crossing the line so the goal should have stood.

Want to talk about acts causing teams to be robbed? I remember a team going out of a World Cup in 2006 when an Italian player dived in a penalty box. Pretty sure though he got lauded as a hero by Italy and the press.....

It's a massive stretch, though. I remember feeling indignant outrage at the whole Ghana thing; the sheer lack of sportsmanship and zero justice for the handball was palpable. I suppose you could argue that Suarez being sent off would have changed the match, but even if the goal came straight after, there's no tangible through line. The Italian player wasn't injured in a footballing sense, so I don't see the two events as being similar. Italy robbed themselves by not playing nearly as well after beating England.
What amazes me is what fellow professionals will do to each other to win a game. I still feel for that French player (Blanc was it?) who missed the final (the pinnacle of the game) because a Croatian player simulated injury. It's depressing what some players will do.

Yeah, there is no good news for Suarez. He won't kick another ball (or bite another player) in anger during this World Cup. It's not a case of if, but how long should he be banned for. For all the criticism the Uruguayan team have had, all they're doing is not giving FIFA any more rope from which to hang Suarez. Most teams do the same with any controversial incident involving a teammate. Play dumb and let events take their course. Liverpool and Dalglish rather idiotically did the same during the whole Evra debacle.
