Boy do I love Metacritic reviews.

Having a great time with it on 3DS. Probably going to double dip with the PC version when it goes on sale.
Yes, I'm sure following the whims of focus testers is a far more worthy "dream" to pursue than creating a game that's like a lost childhood classic.

OK I'm only on the first level and I am floored by the presentation of this game. It really does feel like an NES game released 25 years too late. 3DS version looks and plays beautiful - I am looking forward to this :D

I don't know which platform to buy this on. :(

Feels like it was designed for the 3DS to me, the pixels map 1:1 and it has nice 3D effects, and you don't have to worry about your TV having input lag or your PC having vsync lag.

edit: as for the game, the character designs and music are top notch, everything else is just quite good. It's better than Mutant Mudds or Shantae or Tiny Barbarian DX or Mighty Switch Force or the Rocket Knight Adventures and Ducktales reboots/remakes, but doesn't seem so far to have the depth of Volgarr the Viking, 1001 Spikes, Broforce, Gunman Clive, Escape Goat, or Yumi's Odd Odyssey.

I imagine the weird confirm/cancel thing is because they figured this game would be played with 360 and PS4 controllers mainly and focused on X/A as the main button.

The game is a bit too easy on the first playthrough, I broke all of the checkpoints and never died from combat.

While this is usually a great assumption to make on most indie games it seems like an odd oversight for a game being released on Wii U/3DS that goes as far as to state that the Wii controller held sideways is the ideal old timey experience. Now if it had been released on all platforms at the same time or had originally launched on another platform like Unchained Blades, a PSP port to 3DS that really suffers from this problem because its all menu based then this would definitely be explainable.

Holy fuck, I had no idea that screenshots posted to Miiverse were viewable in 3D on 3DS...I never even visited the the thing since it launched!

My god, some of the screens people have grabbed look astounding in 3D. Particularly the stage in the rain... Was debating which platform to nab it on, and Miiverse made the decision for me.

tempted to go with this on the 3DS (for the portability and 3D effect, naturally) but may opt instead for the Wii U version in order to support the platform's indie ecosystem.

Hurry up UK release

I don't even know where to start with this. Also, I'll never get the hate for retro graphics in indie games. For some, it's not really a choice. Artists are expensive and a simplistic retro look is not only visually appealing, but easier to pull off. For others, such as Shovel Knight, it's just suitable to the game, and it looks great anyway.

Bought for 3DS and played through the first level and town. If anyone's on the fence about this game I strongly recommend you go for it

I wasn't sure if i wanted it or not (it looked cool and I love NES games but wasn't totally sold) but I tried it and it just feels great. Watching previews can't accurately portray how fun this game is

That's part of it, probably.

Another part however is that if I'm recalling right, Square/Xbox X/Nintendo Y are ALSO cancel buttons, so it's also a vertical oriented NES or N64 arrangement. The confirm/cancel are tied explicitly to Attack/Jump, so on the Wii Remote you actually get "B" (1) and "A" (2) being cancel/confirm respectively.

Out of curiosity, has anyone spied any faces yet?
My friend did the Kickstarter and funded enough for his face to appear in the game. I'm kind of excited to see where they might be.

That feel when I have $13 in my eshop funds and I have to wait till July 1st so I can get that Reward money and finally buy this game.

Yes, all of those faces are in one particular level in the game. Hall of Honors or something, can't remember the name exactly.

Picked this up on 3DS and the 3D is great. Lots of nice depth and the colourful visuals really pop nicely. The soundtrack is also great so far.
