They do a better job of it against inferior opponents. The Americans are just extremely well-suited to counters, and missing Altidore also hurts. Bradley is also playing well below his normal standard. (to be fair, Jones is playing much better than I expected- I thought he'd be suspended by the Germany game at least)
I've been impressed by the Americans so far in how few cards they've gotten while defending so much.

Who's more American than children born to members of the US Armed Forces? Their fathers (or mothers) are about as American as they come, so American that they dedicate their lives to serving the country. Their kids absolutely have a right to play for the USA.

one can feel loyalty to more than one country. The relationship between Germany and America is quite close, there are many families connected between the two. Post WW2 America played a large part in the country. Much like I feel affinity for California and Pennsylvania due to my parent's upbringings, a person has the ability to have patriotism to more than one country. That goes doubly or triply if one of the family members was a member of that other country's military service.
Just heard on Chilean radio about local Brazilian newspapers calling the game a mere formality and calling the Chilean team a cliente (and anyone who knows the head-to-head statistics between both teams would agree).

So that makes him not American? Your argument holds no water. He is textbook American being that he comes from a culturally diverse family.
Plus seeing as how his father is in the military he almost certainly got his athletic skills from him and not his German mother.
