I don't understand the hate for sudden death in general. NBA it wouldn't make sense because points are scored so frequently.

But soccer or football, hockey, etc? Why not? You have 60-90 min to settle the game. Extra time then added until a winner is determined.

True. The other part of the arrangement would of course be no penalty kicks. Time keeps ticking and no real incentive to park the bus to try to get to the penalty kick stage.
