the whole thing about the African nation's players demanding their money early is sad. Are they that worried that they won't see it, or are they just letting ego's get in the way? I'm legitimately curious.

Probably corrupt football associations. Can't fault the players at all for wanting to take care of themselves really.

Jesus there should be an intelligence test one has to pass before they can post here...

Man.. so many people falling for that...

Someone put the Oscar stage at the background.
It was penalty though

Not this again. Samaras didn't trip himself up. Sio caught his left while he was lining up his shot.

Samaras clearly pulled back for the shot, hit the Ivorian defender (Through his own fault not the fault of the Ivorian) and then hit the back of his own heel or the ground. Either way that wasn't a penalty.

Taking a closer look, why would Marquez even go to the challenge? There were a lot of Mexican players there and probably the shot would have been blocked

Exactly. Robben was about to lose the ball. It was a dumb move.

Ochoa man of the match is very well deserved. Dude is god tier.

Now for Greece to be eliminated and the Ticos to go forward.

Robben earned that penalty, out played the defense quite a bit and when they couldn't stop him they just fouled him.

Didn't get the call in the first half, got the call in the second half.

Definitely the right call, Ochoa played a fantastic match and a fantastic tournament. Clubs will surely be lining up to sign him.

As regards Marquez's foul, I really don't get why he chose to make it. He was not denying Robben an immediate 100% scoring opportunity, it's not at all certain he would have scored. A player of Marquez's experience should really have known better. Had it gone into extra time, Mexico surely would be going through to the quarter final.

Is more about rubbing the salt, specially coming from a corp.
Well that's what social media for corps is all about, publicity, and because of the freedom the medium provides they can and will get away with cheeky humor (ex. airline tweet with explicit 'funny' image).

Being outraged by it is petty saltness.

VAMOS TICOS! GREECE AIN'T SHIT! DON'T LET THE FAVORITE CONDITION GO TO YOUR HEAD!

Eh, nop. Is English and is also used in the UK and other parts of the world. America, as a continent, uses a lot of lenguages.

Im not sure whose being sarcastic in this thread anymore

Perhaps we should remove sarcastic/trolling posts in fast-moving topics, my brain can't comprehend

So? In this very game he had at least two miracle saves.
Besides, blocking a penalty kick involves a good portion of luck.

I didn't really see any miracle saves, just a good keeper doing a good job.
Blocking penalties involves some luck, that's true, but still it's definitely a skill too.

Thats fair. Maybe I am to jaded to be that positive anymore.

Is not that I was being positive, as I said our place is in the round of 16, and above us are only always the top tier teams of forever (Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Italy), they are the only consistent better teams than ours always, and then whatever flavor of the month team (Croatia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Uruguay, etc.) that had moments of truly genious but only for a time and then they fade into irrelevance again even with periods where they are last of their competitions, or even fail to classify.

The problem for Mexico is that we haven't had that moment of genious to trascend in one burst of glory and then be forgotten, nor the capacity to up our level to a consistent top tier level. And thus we are condemned forever to be one of the best 16 teams of the world, which is not a bad place to be, but we have been there for so long that is routine by now.

Had it gone into extra time, Mexico surely would be going through to the quarter final.

I agree with this, because although Mexico had gone too much on the defensive there, at the end, Netherlands looked very proven by the heat and tired, in general.
So i think a more offensive Mexico, in the extra time, would've won, most likely.

I disagree. Mexico looked clueless after their goal (and LVG's 4-2-4 and 4-3-3 switches) and we had the momentum after the equalizer. I expected Holland to score a second goal either before the end or during ET.

A penalty like that is a cruel way to go out, but it was a stupid challenge that didn't need to be made.

Let's be fair, there was no way - no way - he was going to block that first NED goal. That was a fucking bullet.

Was like a rocket, keeper had no chance.

Eh... have you seen the articles where they mention how shitty and tasteless the social media ads of various companies had been this world cup.

"Suarez bite" goes to funny to "wow that is shitty" in various degrees. Not mention that people has the right to call them for that.

Muchas Gracias Netherlands. Time to celebrate. At least we know Huntington Park is not going to be burned down this year from celebrations.

This tournament the Netherlands have shown they are better in the second half each and every game. No reason to think they wouldn't grow even more into the game during extra time.

He is hindering Samaras from taking a shot so it is in fact his fault whether he intended to or not.

The language is American so we get to make the rules. ;-)

You know what I mean lol. Imagine "travelling" meant defenders not concentrating in football.

Then I go into NBA thread constantly saying people are travelling, even though to them it means something different.

Every time you say flop I keep thinking of Spain, Italy, ronaldo etc since they flopped.

it's not ref's fault, considering the history between Portugal and Netherlands in Euros and Worldcups, you would figure that a Portuguese ref would be bad for the Dutch.

Proença did a decent job today IMO

Why? there is no hate towards the dutch in Portugal we even have a sort of admiration for the dutchies football at least since the 70's and 80's. I didn't see the game, but Proença was right in the penalty

Lolwat? Is this post sarcastic?
How is it Samaras fault when he's just trying to shoot the ball? Samaras tries to shoot the ball, but the defender from behind stretch his leg and make a contact. 100% clear penalty.

I just don't see the shittyness or tastelessness in klm's tweet.

Gael's tweet 'tho, now that is shitty and tasteless.

Go Ticos!

Eh, nop. Is English and is also used in the UK and other parts of the world. America, as a continent, uses a lot of lenguages.

There is no way that is true, get the fuck out of here. It's called america, of course they speak american.

True, and to be honest I'm not sure who else would deserve man of the match. Still I don't think it was a really good game for Ochoa.

I think that save on Holland's corner (now i'm trying to remember who shot) was pretty incredible, i thought it was going to be a goal for sure.
He kind of went in with his fists and actually stopped it with his face (with the ball then hitting the left post), but still, throughout the match he always seemed to have a great sense of how the actions were gonna play out, and was able to cockblock a lot.
I don't think it's just about whether you take goals, i mean let's consider the fact that in the second half, Mexico's net was a shooting target, with 10+ corners, he was bound to get a goal, eventually.
And one was on penalty, which was the defence's mistake, not his.
