Point n Click Adventure GAF 2014 No longer in our dreams, memories or just Germany.

Wow, so I just finished Alter Ego and I really enjoyed the game but holy hell that ending. That was so abrupt and terrible that I kind of feel cheated. I can't believe that's how it ended.. I enjoyed the experience but wrapping it up like that..

Heads up: It's not just Blackwell Legacy on a Daily Deal; Epiphany is up on one as well! Only 40%, but that's still a good saving on a recent release.

OMG THAT GAME! I purchased it for my PC when it was released but the game crashed and I didn't know what do to and this was right at the end...

Rex Nebular had a bug close to the ending, because a chicken that a monster dont eat.

Playing now I remember how point and click games were hard back in the early 90s. You have to really pixel hunt.

Interesting that Rex Nebular has an option to enable the name of a object to appear in mouse over. Otherwise you need to click to know if the detail is a interactive object.

One annoying thing playing now is the emulation keep a little of loading time between screens. Is not loading anything, but take two or three seconds, what is not fluid.

That's right and the whole Blackwell Bundle (Convergence, Deception, Unbound and Legacy) is -90%. If only the community would vote for Broken Age next.

Btw, is realMyst really worth it? I mean, I definitely know Myst, but what on Earth is "update to realMyst"?

AdventureGAF assemble (again)

Steam Community votes

Pack 1:
  • Delver 70% off
  • Super Amazing Wagon Adventure 66% off
  • Pixel Piracy 50% off
  • Noir Syndrome 66% off
Pack 2:
  • Goodbye Deponia 75% off
  • Secret Files Sam Peters 75% off
  • The Last Door 75% off
  • Stranded 50% off

Hoping for PnC to win. Need that Last Door for 75% off. Let's do it!

I actually got a couple of my friends to vote for it too and they don't even like PnC, lol.

[edit] Damn Stranded has a lot of hate. Seems to be like under an hour so price seems a bit steep.

But if it hits the community vote, I'll probably pick it up.

Testament of Sherlock Holmes is hilarious, the faces look so bad and creepy and at one part you control a dog with a penis and all. Also Sherlock Holmes
appears to be a psychopath for most of the game until the curtain is unveiled.
. But it is a good PnC. It lets you choose between 3rd person, 1st person and traditional PnC view on the fly.

I think it has a connection with Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened.

So I just beat Blackwell Legacy.. About three-ish hours on my first ever play through.

I paid $2.99 for the bundle of 1-4, but seriously would have felt the full retail of $5 would have been a fair price on this. I laughed, I even found some parts cool, and was genuinely impressed with a lot of the pixel animation. Heck, even the voice acting was fun in a "b-movie" sort of way, with the writing surprisingly... umm.. not awful.

It's not the "greatest pnc I've ever played", but oddly enough is EXACTLY the pnc I was in the mood to play.

Excited to go through the next 4 games (yeah I even picked up 5 on gog for $11).

Actually an extra special mention to the soundtrack which I enjoyed enough while playing to download it from my gog account and upload to iTunes match.

Could not possible have ended this night on a better note. Even ran mostly fine on my Mac through the included wine-wrapper (another bonus of grabbing it from gog)

Music is even better in the sequels - Dave Gilbert changed musicians, and the new one does amazing jazzy work.

Played the alpha for stasis last night (late, I know) but just wanted to gush a little over it. Big big fan of stuff like Alien and Dead Space, the whole space horror aesthetic, and it's just absolutely nailed. Story teasers in the logs etc is very interesting, really can't wait for the full game. Hasn't been an update on it in a little while so hopefully something.

Finally finished Syberia after about two or three years since I started it. The ending came kind of sudden.
Why did Hans suddenly appear? I feel like I missed something here.
.
I just found out there's a Syberia 3 in development, so I guess the second game has an open ending as well? It was kinda mean to hint at a huge part of the story that wasn't even a part of the first game. Well, I guess I'll play the second game soon then.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like Legacy, but it's definitely the worst in the series in my opinion so I'd wager you'll like the later games. You can see Gilbert improving his writing and getting better with puzzles in each subsequent game.

Just want to give another recomendation for the Ben Jordan Paranormal Investigator series - theyre all totally free and Cases 1 & 2 have a deluxe extended edition.

http://www.grundislavgames.com/benjordan/

Case 4 is especially great as it all takes place in a house and you're lumped together with other paranormal investigators and spooky things start happening obviously.

Case 1/2 are very short compared to the rest of them but still worth a play! I am actually doing a Let's Play series of the Ben Jordan games and the complete first case is online - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnF5qOj1D47JIDt_k5tU7Y5Fwvxq-9C1s !

I'm having a real problem sitting down for the beginning of the first game, I keep picking up something more modern and forgetting about Syberia over and over. Really want too play 1 & 2 though. Did you enjoy it?

some production pictures of The Dream Machine chapter 3 (pretty cool seeing the setup outside of the actual game sreen)

man... stop motion animation is so awesome. especially in the point + click adventure genre.

Wow Memoria's story has kicked the first game's butt. It's vastly more entertaining. Really enjoying this, hope it never ends lol.

I really liked the imaginative world, they really put a lot of detail in the environments. The story is interesting, but it also has an open end and the (for me) most interesting parts are hardly addressed in the first game.
It has some problems, though. It's incredibly slow and there are many screens with nothing to do, so you have to run around a lot if you don't know what to do. I don't remember any illogical puzzles, but there's also nothing really complex; still you'll get stuck from time to time, since you often only know your overall goal and not your current specific goal (which can also feel quite liberating).

I'd say play it if you're looking for an interesting story and a unique world to dive into. Don't play if you're looking for great puzzles. And if you play it, remember: double-click let's you run!

Ragnar just told everyone that Dreamfall Chapters is going to be episodic for reasons of how big the game has become and stuff. I understand their reasoning for doing it and all. I feel bad for Ragnar and co. when I read the KS comments, so much hate going on. I know people aren't fond on episodic games, but since the game was already being split into chapter chunks any way, it isn't as bad as it could be. Personally I'm still super excited, especially for the books about the characters and all coming before the release. Book 1 (that's what they call the chapters) of Chapters will be coming in Fall, apparently before the original date of November.

Also this has nothing to do with Dreamfall Chapters but I didn't want to make another post following this one. I have some questions about the end of Memoria if anyone could enlighten me.
What did the staff mean by a second fake ruby at the end? I know they talked about how the Prince dropped one down but was confused about that and how Sadja materialized from the ruby at the end as well.
Very much loved Memoria. Thought it was much better and more interesting than Chains of Satinav. Funny thing I'm actually going to start up Blackguard next, which is also based on The Dark Eye. I've heard mixed things but mainly because people don't understand how luck-based the Dark Eye system is. Story still sounds nice and all and I've been hungering for a strategic RPG for a while.

I really, really liked Blackguards... but it's sometimes too much luck-based, especially at the beginning (it gets much better levelling), and because of that some fights can get VERY annoying.

Started it today but yeah I can see people's frustration. Some fight I miss so many times that I feel cheated, but then I just retry the battle with different movements and weapons and so far I haven't rage quit yet, although I'm only two hours in as of now. But I do like it so far.

I hear they are going to tweak some things because fans want that for Blackguards 2.

Woo adventure games!

I'm waiting at my computer itching to buy Broken Age but I really need it to get cheaper. I've been out of the PnC field for a long time due to lack of gaming computer (or computer that even has a graphics card) but I'm finally back. I love Tim Schafer's stuff, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango etc.

Big fan of Sam & Max Seasons 1-3 as well.

Also little-known game does anyone here know The Feeble Files? I love that game but I've never seen it talked about anywhere. Highly recommend people picking it up from GoG if they get the chance it's very clever.

Also looking for some recommendations for good PnC games to try out.

Wait until the last day of the Steam sale, it's (almost?) always an encore sale. Broken Age will be as cheap as it will get then. Keep in mind that you get the second episode when it comes out for free, as well. I'm not even mad that I didn't get it for cheap.

Has it already been on flash/daily/community sale already? Damn I thought I'd been pretty vigilant in keeping up with it.

Still yeah I'm aware it's only the first act but I figure it's buy it now, or wait until next year. Second act is gravy as far as I'm concerned at this point. I'd give Tim Schafer all my money if I had any.

Trying The Inner World.
Charming, nice puzzles, great art style... but the terrible tablet interface and the slowness of the main character movement* are irritating me to no end.

*also, it bore me so much that I can't help it but alt-tab away, too bad the game autopauses on tabbing... so I'm only making things worse. Getting from one screen to the next takes me like 20 minutes.
It's excruciating.

Ugh, Dreamfall Chapters going episodic. Not gonna lie, I'm really disappointed. I don't mind episodic games in general, but games not designed from the ground up for it seem to be very stilted with lots of pacing problems.

Also means I have to show an inhuman amount of resistance to wait for the whole game to be available. This series is in my top 3 games ever, after waiting so long for a conclusion I can't experience it in pieces.

I agree. I don't want to be overly negative about this but I am very disappointed. And I will wait to play the full game together so this effectively could be a delay of upto a year for me :(

On steam for the sale, i can highly recommend Black Mirror 2 and 3, along with Grey Matter which are all 3.99 right now/

Black Mirror games are really atmospheric, and have some of the most detailed 2d backgrounds in adventure games, with a lot of stuff to click on. 2 and 3 also support widescreen which is nice considering they arent the newest games.

I cant currently recommend Black Mirror 1 though, which just appeared on steam for 10$ and is broken currently. Im trying to work my way through it but its not a great experience. I need to mess with more settings. If it worked properly i would also recommend that one.

Oh wow, just read it's actually going to be 5 episodes - telltale style. I thought it was 2.

I think your year delay estimate might be on the conservative side...

The Fall is currently on sale for 5€. The game came out in june but seems to be hardly noticed, even though Point n Click Adventure fans would probably enjoy it.

Here's the Launch Trailer

Also made a thread with my impressions in it

Not sure if I'd pay 10€ for episode 1, but 5€ is a pretty good price.

Thanks for this tip. I've been desperately searching for some good adventure games to empty my steam wallet with. This one looks very, very intriguing. At 50% off, I'll impulse buy and take a chance with this one. Don't want to read any of your impressions thread, as I like the idea of going in not knowing much about the game.
