Oh man, Greg Miller is on the front page with a huge IGN logo.

If we're only posting negative opinions to ridicule them how about we just don't post those opinions.

Well, a few women actually talked about applying. But it's clear that they were going to hire Dan from the beginning. I'm not even sure if the video editor position was really "open" either. While having someone like Cara Ellison join the site would be great, we have no way of knowing how many people applied or what potential might have prevented them from securing the position. There aren't many people who would work well with the Giant Bomb crew, and Dan seems like a great choice.

Hey, could we maybe not single out and antagonize someone like this? Did you guys not read the last few pages of the thread?

There was that blog that was linked in the GB forum about the positions where she seems kind of bitter about the fact that the position was never really open.I had only seen Zoe Quinn and Cara Ellison mention applying, and neither of them ever seemed like probable candidates. Not because of their gender, but because of logistics (Cara would need to secure a visa and is primarily interested in writing, Zoe is occupied with game development). From my admittedly extremely limited perspective, Dan doesn't seem like someone who would be that controversial of a hire.
How the hell are people jumping to the conclusion that Dan had the job before applications even went up?

I think it's a relatively safe assumption. Did they announce the community support position that Rorie filled, for example? How the hell are people jumping to the conclusion that Dan had the job before applications even went up?
I can't remember her name. I assume her blog is still linked in the GB thread though.Whose blog was that?
This feels like a question that would get fairly easily dismissed on his tumblr more than anything else. They even joked about it on the podcast for a second before moving onto games (thankfully, because there's no reason to bog down the show with that stuff).Personally, if we're going to focus on the open call part of this: I'd really like to see Jeff be more transparent about this whole thing sometime soon. He's someone who's generally pretty outspoken about not letting the business/corporate side mess with things, so him talking honestly (if he's able) about some of this would definitely help.
Yeah, whilst I'm sure Dan will work well with the guys the way they went about hiring has really opened them up to criticism along with the fact they're always talking about wanting new people for new perspectives and end up hiring long time buddies with similar opinions.
Y'all should really read his whole series of tweets before insulting him. He's actually being very reasonable and fair
I think Patrick does that via Worth Reading? The correct way to go about it is to get diversified perspectives through freelance contributors. The guys on the couch are a very different thing, it has to be like finding a bandmate or something. Who knows whats in store, but anyone making waves about this is just stirring the pot for the sake of it.
I've followed GB about as closely as anyone reasonably could since it opened and they have made great efforts to showcase the breadth of gaming as a culture. Compare the Giantbomb of today to the Giantbomb of 2010 and you'll see the change plain as day. They're pretty keen to the sociological climate of the internet and conversation at large. I see absolutely no reason -whatsoever- why these hires would open them up to criticism.
What's to be open about? Have you ever worked for a large corporation? He was certainly required by CBS to publicly post the opening and accept applications, that's just how it goes. However, he has no obligation to hire anyone besides the person he intended to hire all along. That's how it goes, there is nothing odd about it. You get jobs at that level through your personal connections, not by submitting a resume to a stranger.Personally, if we're going to focus on the open call part of this: I'd really like to see Jeff be more transparent about this whole thing sometime soon. Yes he is. Much more than that e3 appearance during his butt tumblr fiasco.dans a lifetime friend?
i remember him from like one piece of content

The problem is, I never read the site nowadays and only care about video content. So if it's not a QL or a livestream, it's just something I won't see.

I'm of the opinion that Giant Bomb can't afford to take chances for diversities sake.
The position they were in, they really needed to go the safest route possible.
If it ended up being Jeff, Drew, Brad, and two new people who ended up being duds, for the next year or two, the website would have suffered considerably.
Jason and Dan are the perfect new hires, Dan knows and has chemistry with Jeff, they have lots of experience with the stuff Giant Bomb does in general, and Dan and Jason worked together for years.
All I'm saying is that anyone who thought Jeff didn't know months ago who he was going to hire was either being incredibly naive, or just didn't understand how a corporate hiring process works. I don't understand why anyone is owed an explanation.Saying that much would be good!
To be clear, in all of this even if I'm disappointed, it's not like I dislike Dan. I think there's valid reasons to hire a person you know, etc. in the situation they're in. I just think it could have been handled far better than it was, and part of that is talking about how it being presented as open affected people who applied for it thinking it was actually open.
Saying that, though, could violate god knows how many CBSi policies.Saying that much would be good!

"Easy game by classic standards" is "well-balanced for modern standards".
If you want to talk about "not making up your mind", how about putting MM2 and 3 on the same level of difficulty? MM2 is a cakewalk compared to MM3.
