I'm not sure how you can say that the USA does have the better form right now. People forget that they only won the very first game.

Getting a draw against Portugal was a complete fluke. US dominated that game. Which was why the draw felt like a loss for US fans. I know it did to me. I had that damn "Injustica" GIF ready to post to Twitter and then he came through with the assist. Instead I felt like I should say "Injustica."

Dominated.

Interesting.

Pretty neat art project, people from all world cup countries make poster for every matches.

I smiled at Bosnia's ones.

Belgium vs USA... it's hard to care for a game of which you know that the winner will get knocked out in the next round anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Never say never. If Swizterland pulls an upset USA might get lucky and get into the semifinal, hell knows what's still gonna happen. Especially after the matches yesterday.

The US did not dominate that game. You had a couple of good periods and some good counters. The only reason it felt like a loss to you was because they literally scored in the last second. They should have scored more, but their finishing was terrible.

I watched all six relevant games and saw a US team that is much closer to their 100% than Belgium has been, results nonwithstanding.

You can't depend on late joker goals throughout the tournament.

Rationalization - the tattoo.

If oeoe was not red carded i firmly believe Portugal would have drawn vs Germany and then in the end Portugal would go through . Germany didnt play well at all this World Cup they got lucky in the first match

That's generally what 2-1 gets you, right? Was that score until the last of the 5th minute of added time.

That doesn't mean you dominated the game though. Domination in football is defined by more ball possession resulting in more scoring opportunities than your opponent.

If Swiss pull an upset wouldnt you think they would beat Belgium or USA too ?

That's why I said the US "might get lucky". It's certainly possible, but not necessarily certain. If Swiss beat Argentina it would be logical for them to beat Belgium/USA. But if football was entirely logical Costa Rica would be left in the dust at the beginning of the tournament and not preparing for a QF match.

so mad I have to resort to google updates to follow the USA-Belgium game at work. :(

Costa Rica were really lucky to get Greece in their first knockout match. Watching that, I'm pretty confident any other team would have beaten them. They might step up against tougher opposition though, so I won't rule them out just yet.

You could say their finishing was terrible or our defense/Tim Howard was playing well. You can't say they should have scored more. It's a sport, the results are what they are. Shoulda/woulda doesn't mean anything.

"I believe that we will win" must be the lamest most anti-freedom slogan in football history.

hey man it originated from someone in the navy and was first used by navy in an army vs navy football game. it is deeply rooted in freedom

CR should have won in regulation, I'd argue they were unlucky if anything. That hand ball gets rightfully called then they have a comfortable lead. The ref also didn't do them any favors with some questionable cards.

USA played better than they usually do in that game, while Portugal played much worse, so even though it was overall a rather even game, one could say USA "deserved" the 3 points more, especially after the late equalizer.
Same can be said about the France-Nigeria and Germany-Algeria games, where the underdog teams were very impressive against the bigger teams and possibly deserved more... But again, football is all about scoring goals, something which the more experienced teams almost always do when it really counts ;)

Tim definitely saved your asses a few times. Although he was probably at fault for their first goal.

I'm not saying they deserved any more out of that game than the US did. I thought a draw was fair. It's all ifs and buts since it's done now anyway.

First one was when he fell, right? If so yeah, that was an uncharacteristic gaffe by him. But he defended quite a few good shots that game. I'm not sure who we have behind him since this is his last WC, but I can't imagine they'll be as good as him.

Yeah, but let's be real here. He had not shot there even standing up, it was horrific clear by Cameron.

Yeah he had a little sit down on that first one..but it was so close range any sort of power was going to be difficult save.

I honestly have no idea. Tim and Friedel are the only US goalkeepers I have any real knowledge of, which doesn't help anyone.

That's true, we played abysmally, though there was that uncalled handball that would've made us way more comfortable, and we did resist a much more offensive Greece than they had presented in previous matches with 10 men and managed to not get any more red cards from the trigger happy ref.

Obviously all odds are against us against Netherlands but if we could manage to play like we did against Italy or Uruguay I'm sure we could offer some decent opposition. The only consistent player in our team seems to be our godlike GK at the moment.
