WHY ISN'T AIDEN PEARCE'S ICONIC CAP IN SMASH BROS., UBISOFT?

Quick and dirty

Pic of the Day: Mario takes off his iconic hat to reveal another iconic hat. Whose could it be?

Heh, I saw your first comment. Hopefully it would get Jigglypuff, Snake, Wolf, etc.

Hah, with any luck! All of this talk about characters being cut...Well, if we are to believe that Lucas is in risk due to Sal Romano's latest, we should also consider that any Brawl veteran that doesn't make it into the disc could eventually be added via DLC. I have faith that the likes of Squirtle and Ivysaur could be integrated into the roster this way. Sakurai said that SSB4's development begun by porting Brawl, so they already had the assets and everything in place...I think it'd be very odd that, should there indeed be character DLC, they'd start with brand new ones as opposed to "rescue" those who didn't make it.

That's the main reason I'm kind of expecting everyone from Brawl before anything else. I doubt Shiek and ZSS would even be considered for a new game without both the precedent and pre-existing data now that there's no 2-in-1 movesets. Squirtle and Ivysaur have more trouble standing on their own than Charizard and those two, but I'm still left wondering about their chances of appearing some form since they fit similar criteria.

It's also why I'm 50/50 on Snake. They've already got all the conceptual work done, assets leftover from Brawl and a model to start from, so cutting him would have to do more with internal politics than anything.

Ivysaur's never going to be a standalone character. Its inclusion made sense in Brawl because it was a middle evolution tied to Squirtle and Charizard, but without that gimmick there's no reason for it to be playable. It's far less popular than Bulbasaur and Venusaur.

So apparently, I find out a lot of pro players and others who do advanced tech use a button to jump instead of flicking up on the joystick. I suddenly feel alone because of learning this fact.

Am I?

I'm not a pro and I've always used a button. It just feels right I suppose.

Possibly.

Jumping with a button is just easier on you.

- Get an up tilt faster, and without having to worry about jumping by accident.

- I say it's pretty easy to do short hops compared to stick.

I found it strange that Mega Man didn't get 12 unique moves for customization?

It would be awesome if Mega Man did because it would make sense since he learned those moves from the games.

I've always used Y to jump, but plenty of my friends use the joystiq to jump. As others have said, I mainly use the button for easier up tilts and so I never accidentally jump.

Nope. I also use the Control Stick. But I also don't use Advanced Tech, so there's that :P

How do you use up tilt or up smash without accidentally jumping?
A bit of dexterity and the ability to move a stick and press a button at the same time certainly are no disadvantage^^

I doubt it might be because of this, but I guess Sakurai and the Team were trying to avoid giving unique alternate special moves to one third party, but not the other 2
3, snake please be in it ;_;

Kinda yeah. It's mainly because it allows faster inputs, which is what competitive smash is about.

Personally, one of the BEST things implemented in Brawl was the option to turn tap jump off. Something so small that had an impact so large imo.

Poor Ivysaur. Not even as popular as Ivysaur.

Right on the money with Snake. While it is true that Ivysaur's fame pales in comparison with Bulbasaur's and Venasaur's (albeit it must have gotten a nice boost from Brawl), I think that if they're offered via DLC, it'll be easier to perceive them under a different light. As in, "we got the biggest stars on the core roster, now have some lower-key fan favorites!"

I doubt it might be because of this, but I guess Sakurai and the Team were trying to avoid giving unique alternate special moves to one third party, but not the other 2

This sounds logical.

I just turned off tap jump yesterday since it was finally getting in the way of my up tilts in split second decision making. Transition has been smooth since learning how to short hop perfectly with x though.

I used to jump with the stick.

Now I'm x.

I never really thought about the difference between tapping/pressing when using jumps.

Now I'm probably going to experiment in Brawl tonight lmao

I can't not tap jump. I tried disabling it for a while but kept falling to my death and generally fucking up.

You can't really up tilt, but I just... don't up tilt.

MK's uair comes to mind, in melee I usually do that with spacies, is easier to jump out of shine with tap jump, also tap jump make OoS attacks easier to do and JC grabs too, at least to me lel
Interesting. I've never really messed with joystick jumping much, but I may experiment with it sometime this weekend just to get some perspective.

I always jump by pressing up on the stick. That's how I've done it since the 64 days. Pressing a button to jump just doesn't work for me... I've tried it various times, but it never works out.

Same, I got used to it in 64 and every time I tried changing, it was a disaster. I could probably force myself to learn but it would take a while and frankly I'm just not hardcore enough for it to matter.

Button jump all the way, here. I kinda wish there was an option to universally turn it off, instead of having it tied to your profile (which I frequently forget to set).

For tilts you don't press the stick all the way, for smash you just press attack as you press Up.

That's how I played Melee. I still only used buttons to jump. It just takes a little getting used to if tap to jump is on/off

Yeah, having jump on the joystick really fucked up a lot of players. I'm so dependent on it now, and it doesn't really have any advantages.Short hopping is impossible with it I believe
