You sure? He has things that are bad about him mechanically that no other character has, and Sakurai continually makes jokes about him on his dojo page. He's a "useless old man" joke character.

Most of the descriptions is rather serious. He was just a badly balanced character, not a joke character.

He makes fun of his run and his taunts. He's definitely a joke.
The taunt is a reference to something that has been a joke since Melee's victory animation.

The run is one humorous animation. If you look at the other character posts, there are some similar moments.

A joke character doesn't have a final smash like this.
He transforms into a massive demon beast and charges!!

Beyond the fleeting moment of its effect, it’s a visually striking and terrifying attack.

A joke character is supposed to be humorously ineffectual. Dan is a joke character; he looks silly, his attacks are pitifully weak, he's an obviously worse version of a more popular character (Ryu), and some of his attacks are outright jokes. Pichu is another joke character; his attacks hurt himself, his taunt is to flail on the ground like a dying Magikarp, and he's an obviously worse version of another character (Pikachu). Ganondorf is not a joke character; while he has a few awkward animations, he overall looks strong and his attacks are treated seriously. He's a worse version of Captain Falcon, but that doesn't mean much when they're both awful.

Just because a character sucks doesn't mean they're a joke character.

Dr Wily won. 20XX is here. :(

All of this applies to Ganondorf. He's the Dan to Falcon's Ryu.

Falcon's sharing that bottom tier.

And no, Ganondorf is not the Dan to Falcon's Ryu. Some of his animations look sillier than Falcon's (Dair), others look more serious (Fair). He is not meant to be a comedy version of Falcon. He's just meant to be a slower, stronger Falcon, and that makes him worse in a game like Smash Bros.

Are people seriously trying to argue that Brawl Ganondorf is a joke character?

Ganondorf sucks competitively, yes, but he's also extremely powerful and his attacks look vicious. Casuals and intermediate players play as Ganondorf all the time and see him as a serious character. Comparing Dan to Ganondorf is ridiculous.

We're talking about Ganondorf in Brawl.
Ganondorf isn't pitifully weak. His problem isn't power, it's speed. None of his attacks are outright jokes; even the volcano kick hits like a truck. And he "looks silly" in one animation.

Dan is a character who can't throw a fireball more than a meter, can't toss a foe over his head without nearly tripping, and has a super that is just taunting for ten seconds.

This is ludicrous. Ganondorf is not a joke character.

Dan is a character who can't throw a fireball more than a meter, can't toss a foe over his head without a second of effort, and has a super that literally is him taunting for ten seconds.
He's definitely pitifully weak. And the volcano kick fits the definition of "useless" move. Also, between his run and his taunt, he's basically a clown. If Brawl has a joke character, it's pretty clearly Dorf.

There's no use arguing with this guy.

Ganondorf has plenty of attack power. The volcano kick (which has been around since Melee anyways) has enormous knockback even if it's slow as hell. Compare to Dan's Gadouken, a pitifully weak fireball that barely leaves his hand before disappearing. That is the sort of move a joke character has.

Ganondorf just unintentionally sucks. If he were a joke character, he wouldn't be the guy leading the bad guys in the SSE. He'd be constantly getting his ass kicked.

If Smash has a joke character besides Pichu, it's probably Jigglypuff since she actually has a number of humorously weak qualities (A move that makes her fall asleep with only a hidden value, a shield break that auto KOs her, a final smash that is just blowing up like a balloon).

Oh come on, Ganondorf is way more of a joke character than Jigglypuff.

He's worse than Jigglypuff. That doesn't mean he's a joke character; there have been a few Street Fighter games where Dan wasn't the worst character.

Again, a joke character is humorously inept and this shows through in all aspects of the character. If Luigi sucked, he would be a joke character because his animations look weak and scared and because he's got a reputation for being second fiddle to Mario.

aMSa uses Lucario along with his Yoshi?!?

I thought I was the only one who liked playing both of them.

I feel proud knowing there's others out there like me.

A joke character is a character that is designed to be a joke. There's a huge difference between a character that just ends up bad than a character that is designed that way.

Dan is a joke character (whether he ended up being fairly viable or not), Ganondorf is not in any sense of the term. Jigglypuff isn't really either. Sakurai might've wanted her to be, but didn't end up designing her that way. She's not spoofing or playing on anything, she's just Jigglypuff. Which may make her inherently silly, but not a joke character.

Brawl has no joke characters. Luigi is honestly the closest thing to one.

The main reason why Jigglypuff seemed close is that shield break. Why does she get KO'd like that anyway?

Ganondorf is my favorite character in Brawl and I can win nearly every match I play against my friends with him. Because he is not in the competitive scene doesn't make it a joke and an unplayable mess. Most people who play Smash are casual, and he is a good casual character. I like the feel of the power this character has. He is dangerous when you don't pay attention to him on the battlefield.

Project M has Slippy on the way, but yeah, pretty much.

This was a joke.

I sincerely hope so.

It's also got Sami, Lyn, Isaac, and someone else I think on the way.

Big 3 are so hype it causes us to forget the other two out of five total potentials. :P

Skull Kid and Knuckles who I'm completely ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ towards. Skull Kid is just a proxy for Majora's Mask hype and I never got the feeling like he warranted much more than a few cool nods/an AT. Knuckles has legal red tape all over himself by virtue of bringing SEGA in on the fun. Even if we suspend our disbelief and think that papa Nintendo's just going to wink and go about his business with this mod, how could anyone think that using another company's properties while already being on such nebulous ground could be a good thing?

Then again, Dracula's Castle is an official stage in the mod while having no external references within Brawl so...

There have been mods on Brawl Vault for entirely new characters since the beginning of time. I don't think it'd be that big of a deal.

Good point. I guess it could go either way, I just feel like Project M would be at more of a risk as it's more advertised and, in Nintendo's eye, be one more thing to confuse consumers. They probably don't want someone who only sees it on a surface level thinking it's Nintendo produced.
