PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | July 2014

Sony is starting to make me feel really uncomfortable. on one hand they are trying to catch a younger demography with things like mine craft, Vita pets and invizimals, and at the same time they ok a game like criminal girls. Until now it have been pretty "harmless" (except for maybe mon monpiece) but now I am hoping for somone to step up and draw the line.

I found the whole cesorship debate that came before monster monpiece quite disturbing and the talk about artistic freedom is to me pure BS.

what is it that people see that I seem to be totally blind to?
That has nothing to do with Sony. Like it or not those types of games are abundant in Japan and are consistently released, making up a sizable portion of the Vita's game library. Sony doesn't have any say in whether or not a 3rd party publisher decides to pick any of them up for localization in the west.

If you don't like a game, just don't buy it. I don't see much point in arguing about it.

Things like monster monpiece and criminal girls are also extremely tame compared to things like god of war, gta or even DmC. It is just some comical sexual innuendo. Those games people are not arguing about has full blown sex, nudity, and extremely graphic violence.

I saw another mention of the Tearaway 10k stat and it got me curious whether we got any updated numbers on how that did since then? Anecdotally I know that more people picked it up after release, but is it say an evergreen title that sells small but regular amounts?

I believe the last update had it around ~70k in the US.

Eh, I'm not sure I really agree with this. I mentioned in the Criminal Girls thread that fanservice is starting to become a bit annoying to me (unless it's something comical like Neptunia), but I still wouldn't say I don't want games like Monster Monpiece or Criminal Girls on the Vita. They could be really enjoyable games with some lewd content, but I don't think that just because there a bit risqué that Sony should stop the games from being localized.

I do not know what laws they have in Japan when it comes to pictures of children in "sexy" poses, but I do not think that it is legal in my country. And I find it strange that it seems like the artist can say that it is a monster that are thousand year old or that the girl is 18 and suddenly its not a child anymore (even though everyone know that it is a picture of a child).

If you don't like a game, just don't buy it. I don't see much point in arguing about it.

I just wanted to hear if other people find this problematic as I do.

Based on what I've seen of the game, it will be rated "M" which kids shouldn't even have access to.

Sony doesn't need to draw a line for this since there are censorship rules in the west. As long as the publisher is compliant with these, I see no reason for Sony to disapprove NISA's decision on localizing their "ecchi" games. What I can say to you like what other people are saying is that you shouldn't buy it if it doesn't appeal to you.

guys I bought a vita on a whim last week because i'm starting a new job which requires an hour plus commute by train. I thought it would mostly be a companion piece to my ps4 but i've probably already surpassed my hours played on ps4 with the vita and i've had it for significantly less time. I don't know what it is about this thing but i'm in love with it. I always thought the praise it got on these boards were just people trying to justify purchasing a "dying console" but this thing is no joke!

I'm only 16 or so hours into persona 4 so i've got a lot of that ahead of me plus a ton of other rpg's for the ps1/psp. I think i'll have this thing for a long time. Anyway I don't think there is much of a point to this post other than to share my love of the vita. I'm looking forward to spending more time on this thread in the future!

Welcome to Vita-GAF!
I more or less had the same experience when I bought my Vita half a year ago and it's definitely my favorite console at the moment!

Welcome to Vita Gaf :D! This is a great community filled with nice people and lots of great recommendations :).

Speaking of recommendations, some games I would strongly recommend include the following:
- Tearaway: Wonderful 3D Platformer that fully uses the Vita in every possible way :D. My GOTY last year :).
- Gravity Rush: You might own this already thanks to PS+ but if you don't yet, the game is a fun super hero game where you can control gravity (the controls for this are really good once you get used to them). Between the games Cell-Shaded look and really likeable cast, you will really enjoy this game if you give it a shot :).
- Killzone Mercenary: If you like FPS tittles, then this is a must own for any Vita owner; amazing visuals on pair with Killzone 2, great multiplayer, stable performance and tons of replay value.
- Sonic Racing Transformed: Like Gravity Rush, you may own this already (thanks to PS+) but if you don't, it is a very solid kart racer that has a lot of new mechanics that really make it different from Mario Kart. You can physically transform your car into a plane and boat and the dyanmically change the way you play races. That plus great production values, tight controls (more-or-less stable 30FPS on most tracks), amazing soundtrack and lots of Sega love, you are in for a great kart racer :D.
- Persona 3 Portable (PSP): Again, I think you may own this (you mention you have a lot of PS1 and PSP RPG's) but if you don't, you will love this :D. It is more or less a lot like Persona 4 in terms of core gameplay and structure but the story and presentation make it stand out on its own from Persona 4. Great soundtrack and darker story really make this an even better package (and the best part is that if you are part of EU PSN, you can get this at a discounted price right know :D).
- Daxter (PSP): Do you like Jak 1? This is essentially more of that but with some mechanics from Jak 2 thrown in. You play as Daxter with gameplay very similar to the original Jak (the environments and music are in vane of the original Jak and Daxter with level designs feeling like a mix of Jak 1 and Crash). I had a blast playing this, so I highly recommend it :D.

Hope this helps :).

Welcome to Vita/PSNGAF!

Assuming you're in NA, buy DJ MAX: Technika Tune. It's $44.99 on the PSN (physical copies are pretty difficult to find), but more than worth it.

I've always said that if you show someone what the Vita can do (and the games), they'll buy one.

Speaking of which, I think a "blind challenge" with the Vita would be awesome - someone should peel the casing off their Vita and put cardboard and duct tape around the exposed innards, making it look janky as hell but still allowing all the buttons, screen, and touchpad to be accessed (but put stickers over all the labels).

Then, take that "test console" out to the streets loaded with games and ask people to try this "new invention" that wasn't out yet, and ask what they thought.

Do you think anyone would say "this thing sucks"? I don't.

Attention GAFdads!

Any recommendations for vita games for sub five year olds?

My daughter is developing a massive obsession with my vita! She loves flying around in Child of Light (although the battle system is a little beyond her!), she loves building random shit in Doki Doki and I bought her that horrible Aabs Animals game which she loves too (gold trophy FYI)...

I'm contemplating Vita Pets but it's pretty expensive... Any other thoughts?

Edit: she said the new ps+ batman game was "boring"!

I couldn't agree with her review more :)

How about Tearaway or Little Big Planet?
I'd say Minecraft as well but that won't be out before next month.

My 4yo niece loves:

- Welcome Park. Mainly the snap and slide. She keep taking pictures and playing with them. The skate one is popular as well.
- Paint Park Plus. The connect the dot kept me without my vita for hours.

I've got LBP and that kept her occupied for a little while... Didn't click with her though.

Unforgivably, I haven't bought Tearaway yet (definitely will at some point) and I guarantee she'll love it.

I'll be getting Minecraft myself so she'll probably have a crack at that too.

That Australian tax...

Great suggestions - thanks.

How about that Fireworks game? But maybe the flashing lights might cause a seizure.

It seems like such a waste of energy to get up-in-arms about this Criminal Girls game. Your outrage isn't going to stop publishers from bringing it over or its fans from buying it. You'll probably forget about it in a week. You can continue to ignore it as I will and focus on things that are more deserving of your attention and time.

Have you tried Frobisher Says! For that Warioware minigame action? It's mechanically simple enough and is distinctly British in its humour.

I find it sad that people are getting up in arms about Criminal girls when most people did not expect NISA to bring it over due to it's risque nature and we got htoL#NiQ and that thread is dead.

htoL#NiQ looks cute and fantastic and it's everything the opposite of criminal girls.

I just watched a YouTube let's play of this... I wasn't familiar with it...

PERFECT!

Edit: just checked on the store - it's fucking free! Cha ching!

Wow, I'm absolutely blown away with all your responses guys! Thank you so much for all the pointers!

I do have gravity rush and a few other ps plus games from the last few months but i've been so consumed with persona 4/spelunky i haven't had a chance to play much of anything else. I'll be sure to post my impressions when I do get to some of those other recommended games.

Vita isn't allowed to die until all DanganRonpa games finish releasing on it

It isn't allowed to die until Spike-Chunsoft have their giddy way with it. We're probably gonna get a Danganronpa 3 announcement at TGS, and Another Episode comes out in Japan in September as well. I just want Zero Escape 3 funded god damn it
