I really need to read Dan's other work of fiction one day.

In 2013, author Dan Ryckert began a crowdfunding campaign with the sole purpose of mocking an unnamed former professional athlete. This athlete had started his own crowdfunding campaign that was woefully unsuccessful, so Ryckert set out to raise more money than his rival while offering nothing of value to its backers. The handsome 29 year-old writer was successful, bringing in thousands of dollars and fully financing his lifelong goal of getting sweet seats for WrestleMania. While Ryckert was successful, his initial plan of writing a book about the real-life figure was derailed when he realized that it was probably something he could totally get sued for. As a result, he wrote a different book that is entirely fictional and is based on no real life figures or events. He promised his backers nothing of value, and this book makes good on that promise. Enlisting the help of his friends in the gaming industry, in Hollywood, and in the world of improv comedy, Former Baseball Player Sucks At Crowdfunding: A Time Travel Adventure chronicles the entirely fictional adventures of one super-fictional former athlete that isn't based on anyone. Will the steroid-infused idiot find a way to end his chaotic ordeal? Will he ever find peace with the fact that his penis is just the smallest thing in the world? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this thrilling work of fiction.

I love the comparison pictures of Dan and Mr. Canseco on the back of Air Force Gator II. Dan is hilarious.

It's an enthusiast gaming site. Readers of enthusiast gaming sites don't require an explanation as to what a mod is. Writers are supposed to write to their audience. An editor would have removed that. If it was say a Newsweek article or USAToday than an explanation as to what a mod is would then be appropriate.

I think Jeff frowns on using jargon - even though his fanbase isn't exactly casual. It is a stated reason for him hating phrases like Metroidvania and rogue-like. Overused as they are, they do sum up the general idea of a game if used correctly.

page contains proof that all forums are essentially the same. This comment could have been taken straight off of kotaku

Worthless article. Espn this isn't news. Two losers tweeting each other is not news. It happens everyday. Stop saying this is sports news and fire anyone who thought this should be posted.

nah the one time he doesn't explain something that you dont understand youd be in here complaining you dont know what sideloading is or something

Has there been any word on whether there will be a Giant Bomb East podcast? Vinny was the reason I kept listening to the bombcast and it's been pretty boring since he left. An Alex/Vinny/Patrick podcast has so much potential.

Fuck I just subscribed for a year before hearing about this Patrick thing. I know what a fucking mod is Jesus Christ how do I get a refund?

Hey Aaron thanks for coordinating the whole gift thing!

We should really pull together and buy Aaron something to thank him for his hard work in pulling us together to buy Rorie something to thank him for his hard work.

You must fund more Dan Rykert books

They need to use skype to bring scoops in. I was thinking of adding Vinny to bombin in the AM. The only Podcast should be GB west ( Drew , Jason , Brad & Jeff)

Mods are more PC-orientated than general gamer orientated, romhackers notwithstanding (though they've really begun to die out on PC-side as well these days)

The GameOverGreggy episode Jeff was on yesterday is available for a dollar.

Speakin' of Greg Miller, now that I think of it, all those people that thought he was so embarrassing on the live stream... Just so you're aware, Greg regularly takes off his shirt during podcasts and it really had nothing to do with how drunk he was. Just in case people thought it was some sort of signifier that he must've been super wasted. It wasn't.

I feel bad for the people who thought he was embarrassing because they've probably never had a real good time in their life and they deserve to have one.

Greg was awesome at E3. I don't understand the people who thought he was obnoxious. He was funny and added energy to the whole thing. He would fit well with the gang.

I think it's entirely understandable that someone could read that article and not be totally familiar with mods are. That might not be the majority of the people visiting the site, but it's better to have that sentence there than not. It's really not worth getting worked up over.

Look, I didn't have a problem with his performance but that's maybe a little harsh. He just took his shirt off, let's not be crazy here.

I'm not saying it to people who had a problem with him (they're free to dislike who they dislike) but those who felt embarrassed by it. As you said, it's just a shirt coming off. People getting embarrassed by that and a few beers knocked over? Come on, how prudish is that?

Wait... there are people who are upset at Patrick for explaining what a mod is in his article about the doom mod ? Who are these people ? On Twitter ?
