Random thought: Samus in Smash always had an opaque visor. In the Metroid games the visor varies between opaque and clear.

Would you prefer a clearer one that shows some of her face, or would you like them to stick with the opaque look?

Samus%20Eyes1.jpg

it should vary depending on how dramatic the scene in question needs to be

I like both, but I'm too used to the opaque look for Smash. I say let it say.

Opaque on 3DS, realistically variable based on surrounding light on Wii U

because definitive version

It's a fighting game. :-\

A cutaway showing the visor every time a Smash Ball appears on the field, when somebody breaks it, when someone uses a final smash, when someone other than Samus gets a KO, when someone collects a Dragoon Part, when someone performs a recovery, when someone suffers PTSD and when Samus gets a KO.

I'd say opaque makes more sense now that Samus and ZSS are separate characters, but in earlier games I would've definitely preferred a slight transparency effect.

the game needs specific code to determine how dramatic every possible camera angle in the game with samus in it is
Internally referred to in the game's code as 'the PTSD meter'.

Now that we're somewhat close to the 3DS release date, how do you feel about the Miiverse updates compared to the Dojo's? I know everyone was wishing for Dojo style updates when the game was announced, but with the game so close to arriving, are you glad Sakurai has withheld more info this time around?

Not really. My hype for Brawl was unbelieveable. I'm pretty tepid for 4. I'm gonna know everything day 1 anyway, and it's not the sort of game where knowing the characters move/items/etc. is (should be) the fun part. I also really liked seeing the names of all the moves and stuff.

I find the updates to be hit and miss sometimes. Sometimes there are great ones like game mechanics, alts and moves. Then you get some like Luigi nose. I liked the old dojo updates personally. I'm still waiting to hear about the new adventure mode.

Depends strongly on how much content he's actually withheld, so it's hard to say without knowing what is and isn't in the game.

I was bitter at first since Dojo was amazing and while it was probably far more successful than the Miiverse stuff has been (a lot of my IRL friends who are getting a Wii U JUST for Smash still didn't know about stuff like Ike being announced since he wasn't at E3), I feel the way they've done things this time has probably left a lot more for us to discover in the game proper.

If it weren't for the three week difference between the Jap/Western release at least.

I really enjoy the update but it might not be best as Dojo but it's still enjoyable to read people's reactions tho.

I'm just going to say that if your goal was to endear yourself to the Smash community on Neogaf and get support for your petition for King K. Tool, you are showing an poor effort at it.

Bringing it to NeoGAF was more of a formality than anything else, since, from what I've seen, the site is chock-full of people who despise DKC and its characters because of a mixture of Rare hatred and because "it took away their Metroid Prime 4."

If losing maybe half a dozen potential supporters is the price I pay for not placating TooBigots and their enablers, so be it.

That first day, or maybe a few days prior someone is gonna mine the data on the cart/disk and we will know everything we want to know.

That day I will disconnect my Internet modem until the game arrives and I beat it at least once without logging on anything at all ever.

Yep.

Despite the crazy info/gameplay DROUGHT from E3 last year until the Smash Direct, I'm actually pretty cool with the updates this go 'round. I'm ready for the floodgates of leaks leading into the 3DS version to commence in the coming weeks!

What is the schedule for each new miiverse post from Sakurai? It seems to be really late at night here on the west coast of North America.

I'm really happy with the PotD. It's nice to get in-game screenshots every day, and the fact that a lot of it is filler only makes the genuine reveals more exciting.

What, I'm supposed to passively nod my head and agree that Ridley detractors are right that "he's too big" if he's not playable? Well, I mean, if we're inventing reasons characters can never, ever work and pretending those are the only logical explanations for those characters' exclusions, Waluigi is too much of a troll for Smash.

'TooBigots' holy shit what an amazing word

Thanks, I invented it.

Let's just call it 'Toxi's blood pressure meter'.

King K Rool wasn't even in the games made by Retro. Are you high?

Oh yeah. It's you, Bkupa666; one of moderators at SmashBoard.

Yo, slow down folks.

Life is short and conflict doesn't make it better.

You guys do realize that you're no longer arguing about characters, you're arguing about an argument about characters.

Weekend SmashGAF is so meta.

SmashGAF isn't posting about itself about posting about itself, so It's not too meta.

That's weird, because it sure seems to me that Tropical Freeze is a real darling on GAF. Lots of people consider it one of the best 2D platformers ever made. Sure everybody is still waiting on the edge of their seat for a new Metroid, but that doesn't mean people hate DKC. Unless you mean specifically the Rare DKC, in which case I would also say that's not at all what I've seen.

But I don't think there is a universal consensus that DKC has lousy characters here at all.

K. Rool is just like any other fan hopeful. People let their bias get in the way (to the point where they prepare a petition in case their favorite character isn't in the game) and lose sight of the fact Smash Bros isn't always going to cater to THEIR specific wants and desires. Smash is a series based in fan service where seemingly anything can happen. Everything you've ever wanted to see could always be in the next game and people delude themselves into thinking they deserve to have their fantasies indulged.

But the truth is, you don't. You don't deserve K. Rool. You don't deserve Ridley. Or Geno or Sceptile or Toad. What you fantasize about and what you can't believe isn't already in Smash Bros isn't what I fantasize about. We're all different. We all want different things. And trying to unify a fan base into having YOUR favorite character hopeful added to the game is an exercise of entitlement I, and others, probably won't get behind.

I respect and appreciate the fact you wanted K Rool in this game. There are things I would love to see that may never happen. But don't blame GAF and it's supposed minimal population of DKC fans for apparent disinterest in your petition. I'm not saying this in the interest of toxicity at all, but your petition isn't going to take off anywhere. Because it's what YOU want, and you're trying to rally people behind YOUR Smash fantasies, and whatever support you get is going to be infinitesimal in the grand scheme of fan base unrest that exists in the wake of every Smash game.

Don't blame GAF, man. Let the game be the game.

I'm sure the mature people here appreciated Tropical Freeze for what it was, but read a few pages into this thread, and this one too, and you'll see what I mean about the hatred DKC, new and old, received here, at least for the latter half of 2013. It got bad.

With the rest, you're preaching to the choir (men) here. I'm well aware that the likelihood of this movement coming up short vs. getting noticed at all is maybe 99.9 to 0.1. And that's completely okay, because no matter what, the character's name stays fresh in everyone's minds, and the supporters (who are growing in number on other sites, mind you) have fun participating. We're no more 'entitled' than anyone else who suggests anything for Smash, just more proactive; 'entitled' is a crappy buzzword in the fanbase, used to marginalize people who post about ways they personally think Smash could be improved.

Isn't he the owner of K. Rool's thread? It'll be interesting to see how the whole move goes.

Yeah, that's me. That is part of the fun. . .going in with absolutely no expectations and seeing exactly how far we can take things, just based on sheer enthusiasm. There's already a collection of users making artwork and videos for the project, it's spread to Twitter where Grant Kirkhope (DK64 composer) has retweeted the site to 23K followers, and we're only just beginning.

"TooBigots" is probably the worst Smash buzzword since "tourneyfags" and I just groan whenever I see it.

Sometimes I wonder if the people who use it wonder the word bigot even means.

I have been reading this page, trying to figure out what that even was. I thought you were making fun of dude because he misspelled two bigots/ calling people bigots over smash.

I just got that, thats funny in a sad kind of way

Yeah, he's.

That's pretty cool. The K. Rool thread is one of the most active character threads along with the Ridley and Mewtwo threads.

LOL no that definitely wasn't my intention.

I'd just rather that stuff just stay on Miiverse/Smashboards where it belongs.

Yeah, Ridley and K. Rool are pretty much top two most active threads for unconfirmed newcomers. I really hope that they would get their wishes. We'll see how it goes this time.

I definitely plan to buy the LAN adapter for Smash U.

I dont know how I'm going to use a y-cable usb hard drive, the Gamecube controller adapter and a LAN adapter at the same time. The hard drive I use only requires a y-cable on Wii U... 5 USB slots needed and the Wii U has 4.

The Wii U would probably support an extension strip.

I apologize, then, because lots of people making posts like yours have a result in mind and conduct themselves with a lot of bitterness in all their actions. Generally these people take themselves and their goals too seriously and make fools of themselves in the process.

But you seem to be going about this the right way, if I'm any judge of it. As long as it's for fun and not about "getting what you want," that's cool. I'm sorry for assuming you were a very angry and sweaty person making demands when you're clearly just a passionate fan raising awareness. I wish you luck.

I'm currently using a usb hub with it's own power source on my wiiu for the LAN adapter and external harddrive. This way I'll have slots for the gc controller adapter.
