depends on the perspective

Eh, I think the talent is still there. I mean the team just quit after the 0-2 but players like Bernard, Lucas Moura and of course Neymar are good enough to win a WC.
Players like Hulk(He has really gone south since he got paid in Russia),Jo and Fred don't deserve to be anywehere near the squad though, and I have no idea why Scolari insisted on playing them.

They wouldn't even reach semi finals without serious helps from referees.

It's amazing that a world class team (supposedly) made it this far. They made it on fumes and other teams respected them too much. That and they at least had their best player on the pitch. Germany just showed how inept Brazil are and exposed them.

Oh the memories...but was Mareike Amado (or whatever her name is) even famous in the Netherlands beforehand? Thats a thing I'm curious about.

I looked her up on the dutch wikipedia and there is no indication that she ever did anything major in the Netherlands. I don't think she is known there.

We also gave the world Rutger Hauer, Famke Janssen en Carice van Houten.

Chees for us please!

You also gave the world Big Brother, which is terrorizing it for over a decade. I can't believe this show is still running. You owe us!

The violence in Brazil after the game.

One german named Eugen Weber was punched and lost his hearing on the right ear. And a comedian was kicked when we was working.

15 bus were burned in São Paulo. 15 bus were stoned in Curitiba and fights happened too, and one guy tried to suicide thanks to the result of the game.

The fanfest in Recife had fights and the cops had to intervine and used tear gas and some people was trampled thanks to the confusion. Salvador happened fights too and the show that would happen was cancelled.

Expected it to be a lot worse frankly.

Das verstehe ich :)

Btw, for my fellow Dutchies...

Apparently FIFA officials were cheering for Costa Rica and didn't even congratulate Van Oostveen after the game. Cunts.

Same here on GAF. Everybody loves an underdog. Apparently we're an established team even though we never won. But can't really blame them, I would've rooted for CRI too (just.. not make up stuff about penalties as our Belgian friends did)

english translation:

"We would like to thank all Brazilians for the great hospitality and incredible warmth. Since 2006, we know what it's like to lose a semi-final on home soil. Heads up! We wish you all the best for the future!"

It's easy to be gracious in victory though, it's when you lose that you show your true colors. The jury is still out on Germany, we'll see how you act after we beat you for the cup.

If the hint of snobbery is anything to go by, you will want to take some lessons if your team loses as well.

It's called backing your team mate. If we lose, we lose, but until we do I will be confident in our ability and our victory. No compromise there. We're not here to lose or draw, we're here to win.

Let's wait for them to try and get past today. Should be good.

....yeah about that. Tonight it's still Messi versus Eredivisie, so it's still more likely we'll be trading the ball with Brazil on Saturday.

Just a little pre-game jesting, mate. Nothing serious.

Messi is in Sneijder mode this WC; we know he's good, he just hasn't had his day yet. I just hope the true Messi doesn't awaken today and goes around doing pirouettes around our defenders.

Aw, some people even went to comfort the old guy clutching his cup, so nice...
Despite all the drama and disappointment (for Brazilian supporters) of yesterday, I think it was a great moment of sportmanship. Germany was respectful of their opponent till the end and continued playing, neither showing off or pitying them, Brazil didn't give up even if everything was obviously lost at the 30th minute and they deserve their last goal, players and coaches were kind/strong enough to congratulate or comfort each other,...
And that message is a nice finishing touch. Well done.

a question for those who were neutral on both games: Brazil vs Germany or Spain vs Netherlands, what was the most shocking result?

I mean, Brazil took 2 more goals than Spain, but Neymar and Thiago Silva were out, on the other side Spain was the current champion

Definitely Brazil vs Germany. I mean it was a world cup semi-final. Those type of scores just don't happen at that stage. Especially not between two big nations, especially not five times winners Brazil, especially not on home soil where they haven't lost a competitive match in around 1 million years.

Spain Vs Netherlands was a bigger surprise. It was the first game of the tournament, and Spain was still one of the favorites. The result was totally unexpected.
Everybody had noticed in the previous games that Brazil wasn't the top contender they wanted to be, and their star players missing the match only added to that. Even those hoping for a Brazilian victory expected a difficult match.

I was driving to work and saw "Extra - Parabéns" on a newsstand from a distance, I was distracted and for a second I thought it was some day-old paper they didn't put down yet. Didn't even consider it could be something like this, hah.

Translation:

CONGRATULATIONS
to the runners-up of 1950, who were always accused of being the biggest shame in Brazilan football.
Yesterday, we got to know what's real humiliation.

Nice, thanks for posting this.

One thing I can't stop thinking about is Scolari giving Low a gift before the match, it was really sweet, but what a way to repay him.
"Oh thanks for the gift, I don't have anything to hand to you, instead we'll just give you TOTAL HUMILIATION"
