Maradona in the final vs Germany in 1986 didn´t score and...welp. Brown, Valdano and Burruchaga made it possible.

That was hella of a match tho, so many legendary players from both teams.

There's so much salt here and in general, but Argentina is quite intelligent, actually is pure Libertadores DNA. They know how to win these matches, even if they are the lesser team.

I really wish Argentina wins this WC, mainly for Messi.

Aguero half dead...he got subbed on and should have more energy either way. The other 3 are just joke excuses because you know it's the truth.

Robben has been amazing this wc and was shut down. Trust me, contrary to YouTube videos, there were actual matches where Maradona didn't dribble from halfway to score wondergoals.

Argentina would have gone home same time as Cristiano if messi didn't carry them through.

Yeah, people keep complaining about this being a crap game because of no scoring but they were really struggling out there. Lots of slipping and sliding, difficult to set things up, ideal conditions for defensive players to slide in for tackles, etc.

You seem pretty uninformed, though, so maybe I should tell you that some amazing matches were played in the third place decision before. Case in point: almost every single World Cup. In 2010, the third place match was way better than the final.

The players do want it. It's an honor to be the third place.

are you watching the same worldcup? argentina best players have been by far di maria and mascherano, messi have barely showed up here and there but because they guy has the reputation of being a great player it doesnt matter if he plays like shit a whole match and makes a good play and all the sudden the MVP of the match, please, about time people realize argentina is more than messi, i would say that argentina carried messi to the final

The ****? Messi won against Iran and Nigeria, those "good plays" were game winning plays. Rojo would be the most consistent player, so good and such and showed such an improvement, the guy was horrible during the qualifiers.
 
New Germany vs Old Germany....who will win?

Argentina must do everything if they want to keep the cup in America and win lol. Gonna be a tough match for them but I honestly win be happy with any of the 2.

As for Brazil vs NED....I hope Brazil wins so its people dont die of sadness.

There is always a lot of uncertainty in regards to the outcome when two top-tier teams face each other, but with that said, germany has a much stronger team that argentina. Better players in every position, with messi and aguero being the exceptions (although only messi would land a starting spot). There is really nothing that Argentina does that germany doesnt do better, faster and with more skill. Also, whats scary about germanys depth is that their best offensive player, marco reus (top 10 player in the world) is absent, as well as gundogan, both benders and schmelzer.

But as i said, even if there is a big difference in quality, people are reluctant to write off top tier teams which argentina still is, and with good reason. If germany has a bad day and argentina a good one, and if messi suddenly shows up, then argentina can still win it, but id say that i find it much more likely that they lose by 2-3 goals.

Over here in Malaysia it was 4am and some of the stuff was just dire and I was absolutely knackered and actually nodded off during extra time cause I was so tired and then woke up for penalties.

At the same time, I enjoyed tactically what was happening on the pitch so people who said it was boring and wanted the game to open up, please... you are playing for a spot in the final. Not every game is Germany v Brazil. Brazil made monumental errors, that Germany, Argentina and Netherlands did not make.
 
Does anyone listen to Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio? Dude was thrilled that traditionally white Germany but non-white Brazil. He said that he likes the Germany, Italy, and USA.

I hope next World Cup American media gets more informed about soccer. To say that Brazil and Argentina is all flash and no system is absurd. He also Brazil and Argentina crush people so they deserved to get crushed. Apparently he has never watched other Germany games like the vs. Portugal and Saudia Arabia.

Don't make your opinion sound like it's a common sense. More games the merrier. Bronze is great for those who weren't expecting to advance that far.

I'm rooting for Messi but I would say the larger contingency here on GAF is for Germany vs Argentina. At this point, both teams deserve it but if Messi gets it then I would be very happy for him.
 
i was expecting germany to choke by the quarter-finals (or semis at the latest) but i'm pleasantly surprised that they might actually win this tournament.

No they don't, even though great matches were played like you said. Most players want either the gold or nothing, they even risk losing a second time in a great tournament. All player reactions and ex player analyst don't understand the purpose of this match.

Exactly. The only reason it's more exciting is because there's no pressure as it's a meaningless game so the players just go all out
