I wonder how close to the bottom that is...the leak has 3 newcomers left, which would be nearing the bottom. But if Ridley/Dixie/Isaac were in too that'd make it 6.

How close to 0 to you have to be to near the bottom? What kind of thing is holding this Sakurai?!? We must know in order to figure out how close the bottom is!
Probably 3 lol.

This makes it sounds like he'll reveal them all before launch though.

Well, they could have newcomers without any video. Did Sakurai said something about not all newcomers would have their video?

It's got to be Chrom... assuming the Gematsu link is true. I just don't see Shulk or Chorus Men being important enough to get their own live stream... but then again, popularity may not be a factor here.

Also, he chose his words carefully: Nearing the bottom of the Newcomer videos.

Close to the bottom of these intro trailers. Doesn't mean we won't have new characters in the game, but without trailers like the ones we've gotten.

I think we'll see one more after this one before launch.

It'd be cool if the Chorus Kids trailer or artwork somehow referenced this.

Gematsu leak doubters gonna start sweating monday when chrom/shulk/chorus men are reavealed
True enough. Any of those three are pretty unlikely, and basically seal the deal (though Chrom only because of Ike and Marth). WFT aside, the other revealed characters from the leaks were all pretty safe guesses (outside of MM maybe). Still incredible to get that many guesses right though, and with some accurate naming quirks.

Pretty much our only hope at this point is that the third leak was actually from a different, wrong-er source somewhere down the chain. Lucas PLS.

Are there people who still seriously doubt those three aren't playable? I could understand not believing those three are the only newcomers left, doubting those three are playable is a bigger stretch.

I don't think Greninja or Pac-Man were safe guesses. Third Party characters aren't ever safe guesses (look at Snake coming back for example) and Greninja wasn't even a (publicly known) Pokemon until late last year.

There are always people who refuse logic and reason no matter what, so of course.

They didn't guess Greninja. They just guessed some Pokemon from X/Y (though there's a reason for that.)

I thought Pac-Man seemed pretty likley, since we've known Namco was involved. That was before e3, wasn't it? He was already iconic enough to be feasible, but the Namco thing made it seem 'safe' to me.

It's a moot point though, given that they got so many consistently right.

I'm sorry, Saki's dead ):

Maybe Isa.....

I'm under no illusions as to how unlikely they are, but if we did get a S&P rep, I'd much rather have a team rather than just Isa - (K)achi is equally important in the game, and had a much larger role in the first than Isa. Plus, it'd allow for the first female villain on the roster.

But a trophy is fine too.
(gross sobbing)

Yeah, the moment Namco-Bandai was revealed as the outsourced developer the odds of a third party rep from them went up about 90%. Pac-Man was basically the logical conclusion thanks to his iconic status and connection to Nintendo in both games and executives.

At this point I want one of two things from newcomers.

1. To be surprised by the newcomer itself. If gematsu is correct, then that won't happen anymore. E3 2013 was great because I expected none of them. Especially WFT. Direct was great because I totally didn't think we'd get a pokemon from XY since it came out AFTER smash 4 reveal (unprecedented).

2. To be surprised by the newcomer's moveset. So far sakurai has surprised me almost 100% since I've predicted none of the moves from almost all of the newcomers so far. I kinda expected little mac to be mostly punch based, but never anticipated what sakurai would do w/ him (KO meter, etc)

Yup, that's how I feel about it too. Wii Fit Trainer and, if true, Chorus Men are the most out there inclusions. The only other really hard part to get right would be the current pokemon situation, where Pokemon Trainer was axed but Charizard specifically remained.

Villager and Mii weren't exactly easy picks, since Sakurai explicitly said that they wouldn't work as fighters last time around. Maybe Pacman too, although a case could be made for him like others have said.

Either way, by this point it should be obvious the leaker is right.

From Miiverse

"Oh, by the way! I'd like to reveal a new challenger. Instead of doing the unveiling on something like a Nintendo Direct, we're going to live-stream the reveal on the official website on Monday, July 14, at 7:00 AM US Pacific Time (4:00 PM European Central Time). Looks like we're nearing the bottom of the stash of new challenger videos that we've made... Like always, we put a lot of effort into it, so I hope you'll enjoy watching it live."

I have a theory that stems from that part about "bottom of the stash of new challenger videos."

What if the Gematsu leak is only the remaining newcomers with trailers, and there are some that haven't been leaked that will remain secret?

I believe it's been confirmed that all newcomers will get videos.

Some people (myself included) have been guessing the leaker or his source is mostly involved with the production of the newcomer videos. It makes some sense, really. Especially since he seems really confident in the newcomers, but doesn't seem super confident in what else he leaked (he only said DLC was planned and wasn't sure on if Lucas was getting axed or not).

I believe it's been confirmed that all newcomers will get videos.

I highly doubt the unlockable newcomers will have them.

I thought that was speculation. Do we have a quote where he says that *ALL* newcomers will get videos? Is there literally ZERO possibility that some newcomers will be secret until release?

Snake and sonic were unlockable. I wouldn't be surprised if megaman, sonic, and pacman were all unlockable.

If he was involved in making the videos, he would have known Greninja's name. It's more likely that he knew early information from the character decision stages (including the initial reveal plans). He wouldn't know Greninja's name, wouldn't know if Lucas was in or not for sure, and wouldn't have known if reveal times were changed.

Couldnt a secret character just have an unlockable video? Hold on, I'll try to find it. I coulda sworn he said that. It would suck for a character to get short changed just because they're unlockable.

Found it. He doesn't exactly say that there will fo sho be one for every character, but it's definitely implied. It also depends on how much you believe Kotaku's translators.

This has led to the new character intro video sequences for the Villager, Mega Man, and the Wii Fit Trainer. Sakurai expressed a desire to make similar videos for all subsequent new characters.

Also, it's pretty intuitive that each newcomer will get a video. They're just screwed over otherwise. Like Mii Fighter, and even Mii Fighter sort of got a trailer.

I should've mentioned an exception for third parties, but yeah, they'll have videos if they're unlockable.

There's reasons to not know Greninja's name. He could just plain not be interested in Pokemon, the videos could've been made before Greninja was named, ect. Plus, somewhere between the Smash Direct and E3 2014 Mii's name changed to Mii Fighter, and he or his source was there recently enough to know of this change. That in my mind rules out that he was only there for early production.

It'd be disappointing if all the unlockable characters were veterans. Hope Sakurai saved a few newcomers for that (and not 3rd party ones) although I doubt there are any left aside from the Gematsu 3.

In regards to promotional videos for an unlockable newcomer, here is how I'd picture it. First do a "Challenger Approaching!" silhouette tease, then a match against the character in classic Smash style. If you win, the (skippable) character promotional video plays which can also be watched in the menus.

I'm thinking the same thing. I find it (extremely) unlinkely that Sakurai will reveal all newcomers before the game is out and not keep a few of them hidden. My guess is that the Gematsu leak has all the starter newcomers, with a few ones being unlockables we don't know about.

(Pac-Man and Mega Man could be unlockables or not, but they were likely revealed before release because they're 3rd party).

I suppose the Mii Fighter change is an inconsistency. I still wouldn't expect more characters, as I can't imagine there aren't videos for any secret newcomers as well.

I agree, I think all newcomers need a video. It totally kills the mystery, though, but it definitely makes up for it w/ a sweet video.
