US PSN 99¢ Flash Sale: Wild Arms, Syphon Filter, Dino Crisis, Legend of Dragoon, more

Still trying to decide if I should get one or both Wild Arms. I already bought Legend of Dragoon, recently got Vagrant Story, I don't have time to play all these RPGs ... but they're a dollar!

Picked up Dino Crisis 1&2. Never played them. Like Resident Evil, but was always a little too creepy for me. DINOSAURS AREN'T CREEPY, EXCITED TO SHOOT THEM.

A honest summary of Wild ARMs, from a fan:

Pros:
- Pretty good story, with some occasional clichés but also a lot of subversions of them, it's not completely predictable;
- Cool and unique "wild west" type of setting mixed with more "standard" jRPG tropes ("ancient advanced civilization", ruins and old temples and mysterious tech, etc.);
- Really charming and memorable cast of characters, both the heroes and antagonists, and even some minor side characters are pretty charming;
- Battle system is simple but with enough tactical depth, and fun to use, each party member complements the rest quite well;
- Dungeon design is excellent, with lots of cool Zelda/Lufia-type puzzles, and exploration is rewarding;
- Excellent gender representation ;) not that it matters to most, I guess, but I like how there's not a single fan-servicy, damsel in distress or insipid love interest kind of female;
- A most excellent soundtrack (and of course that iconic intro!)
- 2D map graphics still look pretty good;
- Most optional bosses are very difficult and epic as fuck. Most of the game's challenge comes from there and the puzzles.

Cons:
- Rate of random battle encounter is fairly high, and can get annoying when you want to explore, but there's a spell to temporarily reduce the rate to almost zero a bit later, so that helps;
- Most of the obligatory battles, including bosses, are pretty easy;
- Battle graphics are really dated (I know they're bad, but I still find them charming somehow);
- A few of the puzzles are damn obtuse, at least one will most likely have you check out a FAQ (
chest/bookshelf puzzle in De La Metalica
, I'm looking at you!).
- Not a whole lot of party customization; you have the same 3 members the whole time, each with their strengths and weaknesses, and they evolve in power as you progress with some minor customization choices, but it's not a wide array of choice by any means. I don't mind that so much, but if that's important to you, well, it might be a big con I guess.

All in all, I think it's one of the better jRPGs out there, and having played it recently, it still holds up very nicely. For that price, I can't recommend it enough.

Probably a stupid question, but worth a punt:

Can I download US PSOne games with my US account and than transfer them from my PS3 to my EU PS Vita?

Seems like I had 2.57$ left in the wallet on my US account, so I'll be picking up at least a couple games. I just need to decide which.

Picked up both Wild Arms games although I already own them in disc form. Love them to death and glad to have them on my Vita.

Also nabbed the Dino Crisis games and Virtua Fighter 2. These flash sales are pretty darn awesome. Wish there would be one with some PSP RPGs on sale for a buck or two.

Grabbed Dino Crisis, Thomas Was Alone, Machinarium, and Oddworld Munch's Oddysee.

So this is how Steam gamers feel all the time?

Already had Legend of Dragoon.
Went ahead and grabbed Wild Arms 1 & 2, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, and Tekken 2. What a sale!

I don't have the game, nor am i familiar with the series, but someone in this thread was saying it rivaled the N64 game, whatever that means. I'll dry and dig up his quote.

I never played any except the SNES game either but that one was super difficult. I might spend about $$8 so might buy HM anyway

Edit: thanks Yeah might grab it. Ifbi don't like it. It was a dollar lol

Ended up with:

Double Dragon Neon
Wild Arms 1+2
Dino Crisis 2
Legend of Dragoon

Why did I have to have $5 left after Valiant Hearts? My backlog has officially hit impossible status.

Going with Dino Crisis 1&2. And lol at you people getting WA 1,2, and LoD all for $3. Talk about a lot of bang for your buck. I'd definitely buy them if I didn't already own them.

I'd wish they'd put a few more PS2 games on sale (not necessarily .99). Atlus is the only one that seems to do it regularly

Only ones I was skeptical of were TJE and Papo and Yo but meh $1!

Picked up the Syphon Filter games since Ive never played them before. Also DC1 and DC2 since I've recently been moaning about DC2 not being released on the EU PS Store.

Double Dragon NEON was a steal, since I just missed that on the EU PS+ a year or so ago, right before I signed-up. Also grabbed Thomas Was Alone under this US account because between these games along with RE2 and RE3 which I picked-up outside of the sale all under my US account, I'm now heavily considering putting my Vita back to factory settings, wiping the memory card I have for it and changing my Vita over to my US account so I can play these PSOne classics.

I remember liking DC2 quite a bit, DC1 is really Resident Evil with dinos, but with DC2 they go all out action even giving you hi score in each encounter. it's pretty fun. not sure how it holds up now though since I hadn't played it since.
To be honest, my experience of the Resident Evil franchise is limited to the first two or so hours of RE4 Wii so would Dino Crisis be a bad introduction to that sort of thing?
Jesus fuck... I'm old. :'(

(To answer your question: Wild ARMs 1 and 2 are very good jRPGs, if you're into that.)
Well, I haven't played a JRPG in forever (I think my last one was like Pokemon Platinum, and that was released what- 5 years ago?) and was planning on playing Ni No Kuni to reintroduce myself to the genre (or maybe Earthbound), but would something like Wild Arms be better? I guess I'm looking for something that's not toocomplicated or time consuming, but still has a good plot and strong enough gameplay mechanics.

NNK had a horrible battle system imho. I haven't played WA but if it's just noraml turn-based then yes it would be better I think.

I loved the art in NNK, will still finish someday

Already have Wild Arms from the Vita anniversary giveaway (which I still haven't touched), so I'm just picking up the Dino Crisis games.
they should really put up more of those PS1 games for $0.99
I suspect we'll see more of this seeing as it's their second time doing one of these sales in only three months.

Square Enix games pls
