There should be a "blood transfusion" mini game in that TdF game.

Team instructions - choose from "Breakaway", "Bunch Sprint", "Echelon" or "Bully teammade in to taking EPO".

It's just going to escalate until, hopefully, the truth comes out. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near by until there's some resolution, especially given the topics that Patrick frequently writes about.
 
Max is his buddy. I doubt he distances himself from him. It's a tough spot to be in, though. Im sure you want to believe your friend is telling the truth, but you also just can't ignore such a horrible accusation.

There is no way for the truth to ever come out unless one of them admits to lying, which will almost certainly never happen.

On a somewhat related note, don't Google Image search "Atkinson". You get alternating pictures of the two rather well known people with that surname, and your brain won't quite understand what's going on.

Yeah, I imagine the two of them are good friends and you aren't going to abandon a friend just because they are accused of something awful. If it is proven true, then Patrick may reevaluate the friendship but an accusation alone likely isn't enough.
 
I spent the last 5 hours watching the xboxcalypse stream again. It's so chill and full of charm It's hard no to go back to it every year.

I need to redownload the good quality videos from the site though, I'm still rocking the flvs I snatched from the stream.

This whole story is super weird and the pitchforks that have come out on twitter from this is frankly quite scary, so quick to crucify someone and rally a war cry. There's even a hashtag of '#HumanityAgainstSexualAssault' now. The internet is a scary place folks.
 
If the story does get bigger Patrick and Giant Bomb would have to distance themselves from Max. Not only on a personal level but I'm pretty sure CBSi wouldn't want someone who has those kind of accusations hanging over their head to appear in content, even in a guest capacity.

Well, hopefully not on a personal level. It's why these accusations ruin lives even if the accused turns out to be innocent. Friendships can be ruined by these things.

I hope this is all a misunderstanding and Max is indeed innocent but if the accusations are true... Well lets just say if one my friends turned out to be guilty of something like that I wouldn't be able to hang out with them anymore.

I once agreed with the general sentiment you and some others are putting forward, but this article really changed my mind. It's a tough discussion, but the argument FCH puts forward here is unassailable. This text links to a very long article that is worth every moment it takes to read.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is a really simple concept so many people fail to grasp.

As Rez has noted (through the article), this seemingly reasonable position results in a world that can really do some damaging shit to actual victims of rape. So I don't really know where I stand on this. Probably more on the innocent until guilty stance, but still.

More discussion in the thread itself I guess, don't want to clog up GB with this heavy stuff.

Well, everyone should be on the innocent until proven guilty side hopefully. Because if all crimes were guilty until proven innocent then the world would be way more fucked up.

Because very few rapes are ever "proven" in a court of law, even when the victim immediately goes to the police.

Combine that with the incredibly low percentage of false accusations and you start to get a picture of why people tend to sway a certain way when something like this happens.

It still doesn't excuse branding someone a rapist when it hasn't been proven.

The correct thing to do is to not take sides right now.

You have to ask what the point of law is. Retributive? Or is it victim-orientated? Is it only about punishment? Does procedural justice outweigh the damage it may cause to victims? If so, who should decide to take the case forward? Is it always in the victim's best interests to pursue a case and be forced to relive the experience, and worse, have to take part in an adversarial trial to prove it where the other side (and by extension a system) is calling you a liar and seeking to cast you as the aggressor in a situation where (to you) you clearly are not?

It's easy to set a blanket statement everyone can agree with, but reality is always more complex.

More or less where I stand, all of that said. At least outside the system itself.
