US PSN 99¢ Flash Sale: Wild Arms, Syphon Filter, Dino Crisis, Legend of Dragoon, more

I'm a UK gamer but have just over $2 in my US account.

It's between

Dyad
Velocity Ultra
Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD

WHAT 2 TO GET GAF? :)

I picked up Virtua Fighter 2 on my US account. So many memories.

My two and half year old son got his first ever trophy on it earlier. Bless him, and bless Sega for their piss easy achievements.

I think you may have gotten 'Wild Arms XF' and 'Wild Arms Alter Code F' mixed up. Alter Code F is the remake of the original, a PS2 title. It's somewhat rare and expensive at this point - you're talking ~$50 used versus 99¢.

The PSP title, Wild ARMs XF, is a pretty good SRPG, but it's unrelated.

Ahhhh, OK thanks. That makes sense why nothing why showing up for me. Cheers for clearing that up.

Isn't this version of VF2 gorgeous? It's easy to forget how good the game looked in arcades.

I actually got Monster World IV and Revenge of Shinobi earlier in the week as well. They are part of Sega's "collection" series and are chock full of nostalgic goodness.

Twisted Metal Black looks so out of place in that list that I almost missed it. I own the physical copy..but will get it just for the small hope that by owning the digital version...it might be cross buy with Playstation Now...or PS2 digital games start working on the PS4. >_<

Aye, it is. Was driving the missus mad with 'better run home to momma now' as Sarah chalked up victory after victory. When my little man wasn't button mashing his way to glory that is.

I got the whole Monster Land/World bundle when it came out on 360. I do all my console gaming on my Sony Systems now though. Still, I got Wonder Boy in Monster Land on PS3 the other month. Stone cold classic that game, and often forgotten.

Just bought Legend of Dragoon, Virtua Fighter 2, Worms, Double Dragon, Oddworld, Papo and Yo, The Cave, Malicious, Velocity Ultra, Twisted Metal Black, Wild arms 1, and Wild Arms 2. Still considering Syphon Filters 1-3, Dino Crisis 1-2, and Tekken 2...

This must be what Steam users feel like. So many games, such little money. :)

Thomas Was Alone, Machinarium, Wild Arms 1 & 2, and Harvest Moon for me. I'd have gotten Legend of Dragoon too but I only have a Vita.

Have never played any of these. So far Thomas Was Alone is magical.

The hell is this?!

Anyone else getting that? I just bought it. I hope they didn't just spring a free one AFTER people are buying it.

Yup, got it with Syphon Filter 1 when I added it to my cart and kept browsing. Haven't bought it yet, but the banner is across the game like that. I have the feeling SF 1/2/3 will be free next month.

I want to be clear, I haven't even bought it yet - just simply added it to my cart.

Edit-

Added 2 and 3 to the cart, rebooted the store, now 1 and 3 have the banner but not 2. Also, if I try and click on them, the store kicks me out to the XMB.

I tried out the Dyad and Double Dragon demos. I like them so I'll be getting those, Dino Crisis 1 and 2, and Harvest Moon. For those that have never played Legend of Dragoon, the localization is pretty mediocre. Good game but just prepare for some weird dialogue.

Well I just picked up Harvest Moon. I rented the 64 version back in the day and played the hell out of it for a weekend. Not sure why I never went back to the series after that but here's my chance =]

Stupid fucking vita cards. My 32gb card is full and I feel like I barely have anything on it.

And why do some games that you own physically take up so much space!! I'm looking at you ninja gaiden 2 taking up 3.5gb.

I wanna buy moooore

Just a couple of things to note!

- You have to transfer Legend of Dragoon from your PS3 to your Vita to play it on your Vita!
- Virtua Fighter 2 is the Saturn version (with trophies and online play)!

EDIT: Thanks to the mod for changing the thread title!

Virtua Fighter 2 is an arcade port with additional features.

The saturn version actually has less polygons on the character models and the background geometry is completely gone. However, the Saturn version is awesome because it runs at a much higher resolution with higher resolution textures. This is noticeable on the floor textures and backgrounds. the saturn version also plays fast.

Source: I still have my original Saturn, Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighters Megamix.

Edit: There are some annoying bugs in the AI from the arcade version that wasn't in the saturn version.

I have addressed this in the OP (didn't really feel like going back to the post). I made a common mistake and more or less, I was just trying to inform people that it wasn't the Genesis version or whatever

I bought ten of these games yesterday, and will likely never play most of them. I'm most interested in the RPGs, I guess.

Which of the three campaigns is most interesting for Wild Arms?

No need for defense was just sharing info. I just happen to be playing it and decided to share info on details. Thats all. Sorry if it came off that way. These things happen. :)

EDIT: Playing Dino Crisis 1 (got 2 also.) Man, does Regina control like a brick. I don't remember RE controls being that bad.

They aren't really campaigns. The game has one main plot but lets you start playing as any one of the 3 protags before they all meet up together.

I did this too and the store crashed.

Sweet sale. Just wanted some feedback before I bite on some games:

  • Dino Crisis games - How do these two hold up? Should I just get the sequel or are both good titles in their own right?
  • Wild Arms - Same deal. Do these hold up well? I don't really care if aesthetics look archaic. Is there a good story here or is it just a dating sim?
  • Legend of Dragoon - Again, weird localization aside, is the story any good?
  • Harvest Moon - Never played this series before. Will I like it if I like Animal Crossing?

Thanks in advance!

Borderlands 2 in the budle was especially bad since with the DLC takes up over 5 gigs. I need a card bigger than 8 gigs.

Just finished Thomas Was Alone. Excellent game. Engrossed me the whole time. Definitely worth the dollar.

[*]Dino Crisis games - How do these two hold up? Should I just get the sequel or are both good titles in their own right?
These games play differently. In simple terms, the first game is Resident Evil with dinosaurs. The second game is much more action oriented and is like an arcade shooter. It still uses tank controls, but it's much faster pace with score bubbles and combo scoring to rack up bigger scores. They're both worth owning, imo.

[*]Wild Arms - Same deal. Do these hold up well? I don't really care if aesthetics look archaic. Is there a good story here or is it just a dating sim?
This is a very early PS1 jrpg so the visuals look rough in spots but the story is decent. No it's not a dating sim at all. It's a jrpg with a western (as in the old west) motif.

edit: shit, forgot to edit my last post instead of double posting. Apologies.

Dating sim? Wtf. It's just a traditional JRPG that has a great story. :)

Had enough in my psn wallet to get Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms 1&2.

Heavily considering Dino Crisis 1&2, Malicious and Twisted Metal. Should I GAF?

lol, it's not remotely a dating sim. It's a jRPG with an epic story and zero dating or romantic aspect to it.
You can read my post here for more info about Wild ARMs.

Do you play all three eventually, or no? If not, I'd still like to know which prologue is more interesting.

do you have something similar for the 2nd game?

thanks for posting impressions!
I only played the second one once, and took a long time in beating it. It improved on the first one in many respects, most notably graphics, and the ability to avoid most random encounters*, but I simply didn't get into the world and characters as much as the first one. I guess I thought it lacked the charm of the first, maybe? But I may be in the minority here.

* It's actually a really cool system; whenever you're about to have a battle, a ! appears over your character's head; if it's red, the battle is unavoidable (rare), if it's green, it's avoidable and it's a new enemy type, and if it's green, it's avoidable and an enemy you encountered before. So if you see a white or green ! you can press a button, I think it was O, to cancel the encounter. Don't abuse it or you won't level up obviously, but it's useful when you want to explore in peace. In WA1 I abused the roller skates and the invisibility spell a lot to do that, hah.

You play all three, in the order you want. They eventually meet up and form a permanent party. I think all three intros are equally interesting, but it's generally recommended to start with Rudy's, as he has the most exposition. I started with Jack on my first ever playthrough, FWIW.

Can anybody vouch for which version of Velocity Ultra plays better? It was designed for a touch interface no? At $1 I suppose I could just grab both though I hate supporting developers that don't support cross-buy.

Picked up Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Wild Arms 1 and 2, Harvest Moon, and Syphon Filter 1-3. lol I probably wont play these in a while lol.

Went back and bought Papo y Yo, Twisted Metal Black, Dino Crisis 1/2 and Velocity Ultra. Makes for a total of 11 games which I hope to play. Happy to see a lot of people give Wild Arms a try, its one of my favorite jrpg for all of time. Still whistle the opening intro and the overworld theme "influenced by The Ecstasy of Gold" and that's how it should be.

I just bought Legend of Dragoon and Wild Arms not three days ago. Dammit.
