Unlike AE in Marvel as long as you do the level 3 before the timer hits 0 the damage will register.
It's not level 3s, per se. It's any attack that locks the opponent in. Normal throws and counters are the same way, for example, although those attacks are obviously shorter than your typical super.

This was intentionally changed in UMVC3. Since characters with cinematic supers would lose to timeouts unfairly
Vanilla MvC3 was the same way.

Fuck that shit. Most of that damage happened after the timer ran out. Stupid design.
No, stupid design is SF4 Ultras being unusable in the last 10 seconds of the match because they take an eternity to finish.

This was a needed change if developers insist on making super moves as obnoxiously long and cinematic as possible.
