Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

I'm wondering if we're going to have anymore random veteran reveals. The last one we had was in May, and it seems likely we're going to get a new video in August and possibly early September. I'm guessing whoever's left that they want to reveal will just be integrated into those videos.

Hopefully we get Wario with the Chorus Kids

"la, laaa, WAAAA-RIO"

This has me thinking very deep thoughts... thoughts beyond video games... beyond Smash Bros.

Am I an alt of my brother...? Are we all alts of each other... ? I don't think I want this game anymore. Life is short and pointless. We are all headed down the same path.
Are you and your brother twins? Then probably.

So what's the consensus on Lucina? Clone or alt?

There is none, but most are leaning towards clone.

I just took a two hour nap and when I came back to the thread, I honestly thought people had stopped posting for some reason. Then I realized people were having the exact same conversation, with the exact same pictures.

Mii Fighters use custom parts, and have no default moveset.

Where on that page does it say mii fighters are disabled when you disable customization?

All I see is:

"You cannot use custom parts when playing With Anyone online. Please use these when playing With Friends."
and
"You won’t be able to use Mii Fighters when you fight With Anyone online, but the plan is to enable this feature With Friends online."

Nothing says you can't use them when you turn off customization.

I think you infer a lot of information that is actually not there. You turn your own speculations into fact.

Is Lucina indeed a clone? In any case, I'm completely fine with it. I'm against clones, even to something like Lucas and Ness but she seems perfect. She is a character that needs to be like Marth.
It makes sense story-wise for Lucina to be a Marth clone, & as such I wouldn't be mad if she was. If we want a unique FEA character, that's what Robin is for.

Though in all honesty, I would have taken Chrom over Lucina, at least he would have been slightly more different.

It specifically says that Mii Fighters use customized parts though. So if one is off, the other is as well.

They're also not playable when customization is off. They also don't have their own symbol or anything. I think they're pretty clearly meant to be an extra.
They are the Miis of Smash. Miis don't have a fixed series, system or anything, they exist from game to game. So it makes sense that since they are a Smash interpretation of Miis rather than Miis based off of a previous interpretation that they sport the Smash symbol. Their stages have unique symbols.

And for an "extra" they have a lot of work put into them. Complete set of unique moves, three styles and outfits. I'm sure the true reality they are not allowed online is not bullying but rather they are far too variable.

It doesn't though. It's exactly the same.

We've seen five of Lucina's moves, so we'll limit the following example to five moves. I could make a character trailer with Mario and Dr Mario right next to each other, doing synchronized moves. Or Fox and Falco, Pikachu and Pichu. Marth and Roy. They all have moves that look IDENTICAL. MORE than five each.

Tell me how Lucina's situation is different. You keep saying, over and over and OVER again, that Lucina is different from these guys. That SHE'S exactly the same, and they aren't, based on five moves. So when I can take five moves and produce identical animations for each of these pairs, what makes her different?

This is the last time I'm even going to bother asking you this question, since you haven't answered it a single time in this thread.

IIRC, Sakurai's reasoning for no transformations was to prevent one character from turning into a radically different one. Lucina is Marth with less of a personality and longer hair.

I never mentioned transforming characters, I was talking about seperate characters with similar silhouettes. Fox and Falco, Mario and Dr. Mario, these characters looked very similar, yet were given separate spots on the roster, as well as unique animations and properties to their attacks, even if the attacks were technically the same.

Regardless how you feel about Lucina, she's given a fairly distinct personality in the trailer. She certainly was portrayed as a unique individual, seperate from Marth.

What expression is he making?

Drunk? Like, I just imagine Rayman walking into Smash Bros. drunk and thinking he can get in at all, let alone after the Legends/Watch Dogs delay/not delay codology. I mean, I'd be cool with him, but it seems like a dick move on Ubi's part, and a bold one on Sakurai's to accept it.

I still think they sent him the Rayman model hoping he'd use it to make him playable.

They don't have completely identical animations though. Most people could tell you the difference between at least one of those clone/original pairing's moves. Lucina has no difference. I've said this like thirty times now, and then you just ask the question again.

I don't think he means "fighting style" character, but rather, "unique individual" character. Like, even though Fox and Falco were clones in Melee, they each had their own selectable space and are considered seperate characters.

Thank you! Like, even if they had the same proportions and moves he wouldn't make Protoman an alt. costume for Mega Man sort of thing.

The customized parts on the miis get disabled, sure, but not the miis themselves. They just go back to their 'default' moves and aren't wearing clothing. We don't know for sure until he says specifically.

Ya know I've looked around Smashboards, 4chan, Gamefaqs and other websites forums and they are having this same meltdown over Lucina alt vs. clone.

Do you just completely lack reading comprehension, or are you just being willfully ignorant?

I see Lucina going 2 ways right now, and both seem pretty valid to me:

•Lucina is just a more elaborate alt costume with its own intro and taunts, yet the same everything else and doesn't take up a slot in the character select screen

•Lucina is a Marth clone, but has placeholder animations while they continue to work and polish her new animations ( and possibly new attacks). We've already seen this happen a couple of times before with Pit and ZSS having the old Brawl animations for their projectiles, while at a later date being changed to new ones.

Here we go...

I propose to rename the thread "Beelzebufo vs SmashGAF". Because this is what it is right now.

If you saw five of Falco and Fox's moves (Shine, down aerial, down smash, down tilt, phantom), would you be convinced they were the same character?

I can actually prove that I'm great at reading comprehension :)

I think it's a little late to be changing that stuff NOW with the game coming out in 2 months in japan. It's just debugging at this point.

I MAINED Dr. Mario in SSBM. I just spent ALL WEEKEND playing against my college roommate, who MAINED MARIO. Their punch combos are identical. Their up smashes are identical. Their down smashes are identical. Their down tilts are identical. Their up tilts are identical. Their side tilts are identical. Their back airs are identical. Their forward airs are identical. Their down airs are identical. Their up airs are identical. Their neutral airs are identical. Their down specials are identical. Their up specials are identical. Their side specials are identical.

Their neutral specials and side smashes look different.

We have seen exactly five of Lucina's moves.

Like I said, I am not going to ask you the question again.
