Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

Screw Awakening, the only real fire emblem character we've ever needed was Lyn and we are consistently robbed of her.

And screw that Brawl Trophy, I demand to play as her.

They even worked that joke into the cover art.

That's fantastic, haha.

Thanks, guess I gotta buy fire emblem before smash

Since I don't have a 3DS and the possibilities of me playing Awakening are slim, I went ahead and spoiled the significance of all these characters for myself. And thanks to Awakening's marriage system, Robin (the game's main character, gender-selectable akin to Shepard), and
time travel shenanigans
, the possibilities are quite interesting. For those of you that want to know how they all tie together, here's a somewhat spoilerish summation:
Lucina is Chrom's time-travelling daughter from the future, that much is fixed no matter what. However:
- If the player is male, he can marry the time-travelled Lucina (she doesn't go back to the future as far as I know), making Chrom Robin's father-in-law even though they're about the same age.
- Alternatively, if Robin (the player/main character) is female, it's possible for her to actually marry Chrom, making Lucina... also Robin's daugher from the future (!).
Of note, none of this is obligatory at all no matter the character's gender, as there are many other eligible bachelors, each of them with possible descendants. :D.
If anyone who's actually played the game wants to correct me, go ahead. Knowing about it all actually makes me want to play the game, I might get myself a 3DS yet.

Regarding Smash itself, I'm frankly confused about Lucina. I know it's been discussed to death, but my own thoughts: so far she seems like a straight clone of Marth move-wise, which is something that Sakurai tends to shy away from lately. This would point to her being an alt of Marth, if it wasn't for a) her announced status as a newcomer, b) the fact that no alts modify the "name" of the character, at least so far, and c) her Final Smash, which seems to summon Chrom, doesn't make a lot of sense for Marth (unless it's replaced with another character in Marth's case which... seems unlikely). I guess the simplest explanation is that she's a separate character, so I guess it remains to be seen to what extend she's different from Marth in the end.

It's time we appreciate what's truly important:

Look at those boots.

Just look at them.

Just how hot are they?

Possible replies:

1) Wow, those are hot

2) Wow, those are like really, really, really hot

3) I would strut around in those like J. Edgar Hoover on a Tuesday afternoon

the right choice is all 3

they look pretty comfortable.

So robin is the canonical name of the player char in fe awakening? Yeesh...

Also is lucina and robin a single fighter you tag team? Or two separate fighters? Like poke trainer's starters in brawl. Trailer was a bit confusing there I felt.

Yep, My Unit/Avatar/Tactician has always been officially named Robin, in North America, at least. It works well because it's a unisex name. Here we have the default name and default appearance (white hair, etc).

And no, Lucina and Robin are separate characters. You choose one, or the other. And when you choose Robin, you can choose to play as the male or female version.

Lucina and Robin are separate.

Two separate fighters for sure. They're not doing tag team characters anymore.

Man, if people aren't good enough Nintendo fans to know who Robin and Lucina are, their opinions on the smash roster are invalid to me.

I'm kidding

Is that the game Roy and marth are from?

Anyone I've ever played smash with never knew who they were either
Fire Emblem is a long-running series of strategy RPGs. Most of them only came out in Japan, but ever since the early 2000s, there have been English-language installments on GBA, GCN, Wii, DS, and now 3DS. Marth is the original hero from the original Fire Emblem; he most recently appeared in a remake on DS. Roy was a one-shot character who appeared in a GBA title (which wasn't even released at the time Melee came out, and which never came to America). Ike is from Path of Radiance (GCN) and Radiant Dawn (Wii). And Robin and Lucina are both from Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS, the best-selling installment in the series.

Awakening is the newest one. They were going to kill off the series if it flopped but it sold far better than it has in ages, possibly the best ever. It's where robin and Lucina are from.

Marth's been in a bunch of the games but isn't around any more by the time the newest one happened. I think it's set way after he died? They talk about him like he's ancient history.

ike from brawl was in the wii and gamecube ones.

I think roy's only been in one, and it came out a long time ago. Might've only been in japan.

Falco will be in. They like to slowly show the vets for some reason.

But that kind of smash player would probably know about the Fire Emblem series already if they ever spent any time examining the trophies in trophy mode. But all that reading and learning and shit? F*** no. Final Destination/Fox/Falco/Falcon/Ganondorf/no items bro, pass me a beer.

I thought posting a creepily-cropped shot of Lucina's legs would bring about peace in this thread but you guys are still bickering, smh
