Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

- I'm seeing a lot of disappointment about Chrom, too, which kinda surprises me. Wasn't the general sentiment about Fire Emblem reps in Smash already that there are too many similar-looking blue-haired sword users? Chrom would just have been another one of those, whereas Robin (even if I don't personally care about him/her) is a truly unique Red Mage-type character who breaks that Fire Emblem sword user archetype. Obviously Marth and Lucina are fast and lithe while Ike is powerful and slow; Awakening fans, what would Chrom have brought to the table that's unique? Would he have served as a sort of middle ground between Marth/Lucina and Ike? I'm curious as to what Chrom would have offered that people are disappointed they're missing out on.

Since Ike is returning, it would have taken a lot of extra work to try to differentiate Chrom from him and Marth so I think Sakurai chose a great compromise. Not only do we get a brand new unique character, we also got Lucina. :) it's all good, imo.

Neeeeeeess =(

still not revealed yet. :3

I think they're just switching Marth from Fair-centric combos to Nair-centric combos. Would not be the first time that has happened to a character in Smash.

I don't mind autocancels as long as they're universal and make sense in how they're performed. Someone mentioned it a while back that aerials should auto cancel on hit (confirm or shield) and I kinda liked the idea even if I didn't fully conceptualize it in my head.

I think he meant she landed after her move finished.

I know it's not exactly the same thing, but before we recorded the Rayman trophy discussion last night, Andre and Derrick mentioned that they wanted to fold my thoughts on Robin/Lucina/Captain Falcon into our weekly screenshot discussion on Thursday night to make up for the fact that I wasn't able to talk about them in the actual discussion, so you can look forward to that at least!
Yeah, that'd be great to get your take on it then. Also, I'd be interested to hear updated thoughts from Andre and Derrick on the new characters. We got their first impressions on Monday, but a second take would be nice since Derrick seems to have figured out some of Robin's move-set now, and we've all had time to digest everything that happened. :-)

I read a theory somewhere that hypothesized that perhaps landing lag could directly depend on the height of your jump, ie shorthops would have less lag than full jumps. I kind of like that idea, but I'm unsure how practical it would actually be.

I was hoping my comment would catch moonlight's attention.
Haha. Didn't want to budget too much of the conversation on Anna. But you've definitely got my bump if you're marrying Anna in your file. One of the best S-Rank events!

Oh, and found this cool Robin art on Tumblr!

Here's something fun: now that Captain Falcon is confirmed, rank the remaining unconfirmed Brawl vets (plus Mewtwo, I guess) in terms of how much you care about them returning in Smash 4!

1. Squirtle (It's not going to happen, but Squirtle is absolute fave Pokemon, so I would like him to come back.)
2. Wolf (I don't like the spacies...except Wolf. I just wish he had his own FS so we could stop all this clone talk)
3. Mr. Game and Watch
4. Jigglypuff
5. R.O.B
6. Lucas
7. Ice Climbers
8. Snake
9. Mewtwo
10. Ivysaur

As for the rest, well they're all coming back so why rank them? I mean, no one really believes fucking Ganondorf or Wario are getting cut, do they?

er....so shorthop+aerial remains as good as ever?

but that doesn't really match up with initial impressions, idk

Not to piss in the punch bowl, but what if these trailers were prepared ages ago and that footage of L-canceling and blue flames and shit was from before they removed them?
Why would Sakurai add blue flames to Ike and then suddenly decide that he wanted it back to its' old, inaccurate self. :lol

Dang I'll totally bite on one of those. I just want a gamecube controller for the feels and familiarity, I don't need it to be wired and all competitive focused or anything so this looks perfect for me!

Honestly, I'd probably go with the official controller over these. I don't have much of an idea of PDP's quality, but I don't think they've at the level of say MadCatz in terms of quality, plus (and this is just me trying to recall my memories from over a decade ago) every 3rd party GCN controller I've used never felt right, mainly due to the triggers almost always being too stiff in comparison to the 1st party controllers. It's probably best to wait for impressions/reviews to come out before making your decision.

Why would they add assets and mechanics not present in Brawl; then remove them? I don't think their development process would be that disorganised.

the former made sense in the Melee-->Brawl transition, but makes absolutely no sense now
the latter just doesn't make sense at all

Ah darn okay, thanks. I really just don't want to drop cash on the adapter and the controller :/

Regarding the blue flames, for all we know, Sakurai might've decided that he should maintain consistency with how that effect was depicted in Brawl, and went back to the red flames after experimenting with the blue.

Hopefully not, though.

I wouldn't put it past Sakurai, if only to see the response.

"If I put in blue flames then it would look extra bad when I reveal Dorf is still a Falcon clone. Shit."

Personally, I think it's about fucking time Ganondorf gets a new moveset with his old stuff being given to Black Shadow.

Man would it be fucked up if the one frame of blue flames was a animation error or something weird with the video.

"Shit, too lore accurate! BETTER UPSET MORE IKE FANS."
The fact that he's got his blue flames makes him perfect.

I never let myself hope too much that we'd get the superior Radiant Dawn version of Ike. His confirmation made me more excited than anything else so far. (Captain Falcon is pretty up there too.)
